Walking down the corridor with his cloak covering his eyes, Zak clenched his teeth and gripped the hilt of his sword until his knuckles were white. King Galbatorix had called for him, most likely to reassign him to a new rider. Angry with himself for have failing him with his last assignment, assassinating the governor of Teirm, Zak let his pale blue magic envelop him, swirling around his limbs and chest. Zak soon stood before the doors of King Galbatorix's throne room, stopped by his guards. "Let me past." Zak said it through his clenched jaw. The guards held their stance, glancing nervously at Zak and each other. "Should we let him pa-" Zak whipped his sword from his waist and stabbed the man through the chest, beheading the other before he could react. Zak slid the bloodied sword back into the sheath and pushed open the large doors. He flicked his cloak back and stepped into the room. In a bored sounding tone, he said, "King Galbatorix, may I suggest informing your guards of my arrival?"

Marola awoke with a strange feeling in her. Almost a feeling of dread. How long can I keep this a secret? she wondered. She slid her hands over her stomach as a bout of morning sickness came over her. She held it back, though the nausea didn't go away for a good ten minutes. She groaned and rolled out of bed. She glanced at Rauthr, who was still asleep. She slowly got dressed, then looked up at the ceiling for a while, just thinking. She had told Tyr and Rauthr, but they were the only ones who knew. And she knew Tyr was going to be bothering her about it to no end. She considered for a moment telling the king, but decided that would be a bad idea. Where can I go that you might stay a secret? she asked the child within her. She sighed, the feelings of a long day pounding on her head.

Galbatorix grabbed the boy within the grips of his icy black magic. The tendrils snaked around him as he grasped him tightly around the throat. "Do not presume to tell me how to handle my guards and DO NOT KILL WITHOUT MY COMMAND!" He pulled the boy closer to him as he stared intently into his eyes. "DO I MAKE MYSELF PERFECTLY CLEAR!" He released the boy, dropping him to the floor at his feet as he shifted his weight on the throne. His finger ran lightly over the indention in the arm from a previous assasination attempt. He ignored the boy momentarily, making him wait. Finally, after picking at a piece of meat within his teeth, he looked intently at the boy.
"I have an assignment for you." He eyed the boy intently. "I want you to watch the Rider, Marola. She is hiding something from me and I do not like secrets. You are to stick to her and report to me. I want an eye kept on her. Do you understand?"

Zak stared straight ahead, letting no emotion show on his face. When Galbatorix had calmed down a bit, Zak spoke. "Terribly sorry, my King. But may I ask where she is and what I should say when I tell her that I am to watch her?" Fear wracked Zak's mind as he anxiously waited for Galbatorix's reaction.

OOC: and here's your answer!!! lol. Marola finally convinced herself to go to the king. She hoped he would give her an assignment that would take her away from Uru'baen for a few days. The stress of staying in the city was getting to her. Taking a deep breath, she went down the halls and to the familiar doors that led to the throne room. When she got there, she noticed that there were no guards there, and there was blood on the floor, though apparently the bodies had been taken away. Someone was in a foul mood today, she observed dryly. Since there were no guards to announce her arrival, she walked in herself. She was surprised to see a young man standing in there, as well as the king. She gave the man a quick glance, then knelt before the king. "Your majesty," she said, "Rider Marola, reporting for today's assignment."

Galbatorix gripped the arm of the throne tightly within his hand. The leather of his black glove creaked under the strain of his grasp. His eyes grew dark as the fires flared within them. “I do not care what you tell her just get me the information! Seduce her, irritate her, that shouldn't be too hard for you to do, just get the information! Try looking in her room. Now be off before I reconsider my choice for this assignment!” His voice thundered throughout the throne room.

Blinking, Zak nodded to Galbatorix, then turned to the girl, who must have been Marola. "I suppose you are Marola. King Galbatorix," Zak gestured towards the King, "has assigned me to...protect you. He has heard," Zak looked nervously at the King, afraid he would get mad because of his lies, and continued, "rumors of assassins trying to get rid of his riders." Nervous, Zak gripped the hilt of his sword and kept the words of the ancient language on the tip of his tongue.

Marola blinked at this new information and her grip tightened on the hilt of her sword. "You've been assigned to protect me from assassins," she stated incredulously, "I, who am an assassin myself, must be protected. I, a Rider who has a dragon who is more than able to protect me." She turned back to Galbatorix. "My king, with all due respect, I must protest this action. I am more than able to protect myself, and where I cannot, Rauthr can."

Galbatorix rose angrily from the throne. His fist pounding the arm as he did. "Do not argue with my orders! I tire of this incessant talk today. Marola you will let him do as he is assigned and you will be on watch for anything strange within the city. Are we understood? Good Now GO!" His voice again bellowed within the chamber. He rolled his eyes as he sat back down on the massive throne. His fingers rapping on the arm as he felt his impatience growing.

"Yes, my king," Marola said before clamping her mouth shut. She turned without waiting for Zak and left the room. Once outside the room, she drew one of her daggers and threw it at the far wall, letting out a cry of frustration. It would be even harder now to hide her pregnancy now that she had this man following her around. She stared at the place where the dagger remained stuck between the cracks in the stone wall, simmering in anger. Then she yanked it out of the wall and slammed it back into its sheath.

Zak hurried after Marola, anger boiling inside of him. Why must the King act this way? He wasn't always so mean, like when he had given him and his family a home. Shrinking into the corner, Zak waited until Marola's outburst was over, deciding it wasn't best to talk when she was so angry.

Marola glared at the man who the king had assigned to protect her. None of the other Riders have bodyguards. This man will only make me look like a weakling. She was not inclined to talk to him at the moment. Still, she at least needed to know his name so she knew what to call him. "What is your name?" she asked him as she began walking to the dining room to break her fast before beginning her assignment that day.

Moving forward to follow her, Zak replied. "Zak." After he thought for a moment, he thought of something else to say that might help her calm down. "There's no need to talk to me, Marola. It's not like I like this very much either." The remark was totally wrong, for he liked watching the riders. It was way more interesting than watching nobles.

Marola glanced sideways at Zak as she continued walking. "And why, Zak, have you been ordered to 'protect' me? For I am fairly certain that I am more than able to protect myself from any would-be assassins." She paused for a moment. "Never mind that. I'll find out why sooner or later." She entered the dining hall and sat, waiting for a servant to bring out the meal.

Sitting at the table next to her, so that it looked like they weren't there together, and tapped his fingers against it. Murmuring quietly, he said to Marola, "Just don't think about it. I'm not here. Just you." A servant hurried to them, stopping at Zak first. "What would you like, sir?" Zak thought for a moment. "Mead and biscuits. I have a feeling I'll be on the road quite soon."
