Tismri stood staring at the gate of Uru'baen. Beside her stood Ismrolde. Tismri's face was hard, but a tear was cascading down her face. Tismri, are you sure you want to do this? Ismrolde asked her Rider. Tismri placed a hand on the giant copper dragon's side. I don't necessarily desire this confrontation...but I believe it is needed. I must look this traitor in the face and tell him and the Riders shall have their vengence, though it take another century to resolve. With that, she gave Ismrolde a hug as far around her leg as her arms would go, then turned and walked to the city of Uru'baen to face Galbatorix...alone.

From afar, Aren's face would be read as desperate. The dark dragon he rode upon could've been guessed the same by the rate of how fast he was flapping his wings. The truth was, they were desperate; desperate for saving two of the few friends they had that were still alive. Aren clutched the hilt of Belür, his ruby ring, Syr, glowing brightly. Jamr was the first to break the silence. Where did you say they were headed, Aren? I'm not sure, but it seemed as if she was thinking of confronting Galbatorix...by herself. Jamr's astonishment filled Aren's mind. What about Ismrolde? She would never let such a thing happen! Aren was miserable, tears streaking his cheeks. I don't know, Jamr. I would imagine not. Suddenly, Jamr bugled. There, Aren! It's Ismrolde!

Ismrolde heard a familiar roar overhead and looked up. To her astonishment, she saw Jamr flying overhead. Aren was upon his back, as well! Unable to contain herself, she lept up and flew to her friends of old. Tismri sent a questioning thought to her as she walked through the streets of the nearby city. It's Aren and Jamr! Ismrolde told her. She felt Tismri's surprise through their connection. Go talk to them...but don't tell them what I plan to do. Ismrolde protested, but Tismri would not be denied. The dragon reluctantly agreed and lept for the sky.

Galbatorix sneered as the guard reported the copper dragon just outside the city. "Well what are you waiting for?" he snarled as his anger rose. "Get the dragon slayers mobilized. Is everyone around here daft?" His fist pounded hard on the throne as he felt and ancient presence. 'No...it can't be.' he thought quietly. He brushed Kalri's mind as she lay sleeping behind Shrui'kan on the dais. 'Rise my daughter. Trouble is near!"

Kaylayn ran into the King's room,"What is wrong Galby is someone a little grumpy?"Kaylayn knew exactly what was happening and was proven correct when he saw Tismri come. Kaylayn was torn and didn't know what to do or say.

Tismri entered the palace, ignroing the guards that tried to stop her. Those that blocked her path were gently lifted by magic out of her way. She made her way to where she felt the evil presence. Calmly, she opened the doors and walked in. She stood, still as a statue, and simply stared the traitor in the face, unable to speak at first, her anger to great to let words pass.

Galbatorix laid back gingerly against the back of the throne. His chin rested against his closed fist as he absently stroked at the stubble. He sat calmly though he was ready to respond as needed. He was surprised that the ancient rider he felt was a woman but it didn’t matter. He stared back intently until he finally broke the silence. “What is it you want ancient one? I have no qualms with you.” His manner was even as he watched the rider.
He eyed the elf Kaylayn briefly as the contemptuous little whelp called him Galby. He wondered quietly why he didn’t just kill him or give him to Kalri to play with but he had to admit that the elf was amusing and had proven his worth before. Secretly he enjoyed the elf’s hijincks as he wreaked havoc. He always thought he would make a good friend for Kalri but wasn’t sure the kingdom could stand the mischief the pair would cause if they ever got together.

Tismri barely noticed as Kaylayn entered the room. Her eyes were entirely upon Galbatorix. Her anger was almost unmatched in the land, but she held it in. In a smooth, polite voice, she said, "You have murdered my brethern, my fellow Riders. You killed King Evadar of the elves and Vrael of the Riders. You kill this one's" she nodded to Shruikan, "original Rider and created a most disgusting link between the two of you. All this you have done, and more, while I and my dragon were doing Vrael's business in the north. The Riders will have their revenge." She waited for any response from the traitor.

"Hey Tismri hows it going?I see your hair is still looking good from last time we met."Kaylayn was acting completely oblivious to the tension of the situation and was whistling a catchy tune.

Jamr flew faster to meet Ismrolde in the air. Aren reached out with his mind and touched the ancient dragon's saying with both his and Jamr's voice, Where is Tismri? Their voices were said with both compassion and desperation.

Ismrolde flew faster to them, sensing their desperation. She's in the city...meeting with that oath-breaker Galbatorix. I tried to convince her otherwise, but she would not listen to me! She let out a roar of frustration and looked to the city, where she knew her Rider was, standing at the edge of terrible danger.

Jamr joined Ismrolde's roar, tears running down Aren's cheeks. No! She is one of the last riders! She cannot die! Out of both being desperate and crazy, Aren did the unthinkable. He jumped. I will follow her! Jamr roared even louder and dove down, catching Aren before he fell to far. You cannot help her if you are dead! Jamr looked behind him at Ismrolde. Come, sister. Let us save your rider.

Ismrolde gave Jamr a pained look and sent sad feelings to him. She made me promise I would not interfere. She does not believe she will be killed, or captured. I tried to convince her otherwise, but she refused to listen. She looked to the ground where Aren had jumped off, and was glad Jamr had succeeded in catching him, for at that moment, a group of men, who she sensed could use magic, streamed out of the city, looking up at the two dragons in they sky. I don't like the look of these men, she commented to Jamr, They seem to radiate hostility.

Galbatorix looked at the ancient rider as she spoke. He remained seated on his ornate throne as he felt Kalri’s magic cloaking her from the ancient rider behind him. He sneered slightly as he spoke to the ancient rider. “You have been gone many centuries Argetlam. There is much you do not know about the state of the riders and Alagaesia. The riders put themselves above the good of Alagaesia. Greed, lust, envy and the pursuit of power dominated them, factioning them and almost bringing ruin to Alagaesia. I merely acted to unite them and bring order to the chaos. I seek to bring peace to Alagaesia. Is that so wrong?” His face shown a sincere look. In his mind he had actually done Alagaesia a great service. “How are you known Argetlam?” His mind began processing the possibilities that a rider of the caliber before him might bring to his quest.

Tismri's gaze never wavered, her emerald eyes staring into Galbatorix's mad ones. "I have not been gone as long as you assume, at least not from the standards of one who has lived as long as I. "I am Tismri, Rider of Ismrolde, and wielder of Mor'ranr. You say you have done this for the good of Alagaesia. Very well, let no one say I am an unfair judge. I would like to hear everything you have to say on the subject of the destruction of the Riders: how you felt to lose your first dragon, why you stole Shruikan and enslaved him, and why you killed nearly every Rider and dragon in existance. For these I would like to know. If you truly tell me everything, then I may see your side of this and understand you better. Who knows, I may even end up agreeing with you. So I will give you a chance to speak on these things." The whole time, the only thing Tismri moved was her mouth. Her eyes never twitched, her arms never moved, she never shuffled her feet. She simply stood, straight and tall, and waited for her answer.
