River just stood at she felt the man approach. If she had been using her eyes instead of her mind, she probably would have liked the guy. The feel of his mind, however, seemed dark and sinister...and up to no good. Fear erupted in her mind, and she soon realized it was her own. ~~~~~ Elva had been thinking about the reunion that was about to take place when a sudden sense of great and terrible pain flooded her senses. The very feeling of it made her almost sick. So many people in pain...even several dying. Including Nasuada. She flew from the room as fast as her legs could carry her. She had to find Simon.

Within a minute, Tyr had moved easily and without trouble through the crowd as he watched River. He knew that he must be cautious with her; especially when he activated her true purpose. He now stood to River's right side, a few distance off. He maneuvered himself so that he would be behind her. Inching close to her, Tyr whispered behind her, and quickly put his arms around her waist. Pushing her close to him, he leaned his mouth near her ear. "Hello again, River." He whispered as his strong arms held her. "Don't move and don't shout....or I'll snap you like a twig." He warned, his eyes flickering from her and their surroundings, making sure that no one noticed the odd encounter.
*** Tara stopped by a merchant and browsed some of the goods there. She felt compelled to glance at some jewelry that she rarely had seen before. "They were made by the elves!" The merchant told her. Tara picked up a necklace and caressed it with a finger. For some odd reason, she knew the merchant was lying, but not from his demeanor, but rather, she had felt...that she knew what material elves used to make their jewels. She studied it for a moment, wondering how she could deduce that.
*** Faolan pointed to the castle towers. "Double the men there." He told some of the soldiers and they ran off to obey his command. "Increase the troops near the inner wall as well." He told the remaining soldiers as he moved toward the outer walls of the castle, with a cloak about him, so that none knew that he was an elf.

River bit back a scream as the dark mind approached behind her. She heard a voice which she vaugely recognized talking to her. Fashes of memory poured through her, of men with dark minds like this one driving into her mind. She wouldn't....couldn't go back there. Where was Simon? She desparately wanted her brother to come rescue her again.

"You escaped from us before, but this time, you will comply to our demands." He whispered, moving her slowly away from the crowds. "Now, don't try anything, I know how powerful you are...but you're no match for me...I was bred to match you." Tyr whispered, glancing again to see if there were unwanted eyes.

River trembled as Tyr pulled her away, frightened tears running down. All the other voices seemed to quiet and his seemed to dominate, like a stifling blanket being pulled over her. Her heart beat wildly. Only one thought that was hers came into her mind. SIMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once Tyr got River away from the main mass of the crowd, he pressed her close to him as he leaned in to whisper in ear. A sly smile spread across his lips. "You know what's to happen now...you know what you must do." He leaned in closer and whispered the code that would awaken her. "The candle still burns."
He said his code and let go of River cautiously before backing away, a devious smile still on his lips.
OOC: hehe guess where the code phrase is from?

OOC: lol!! I warned you to have him run away. Oh, well. lol! River stood rigid the instant she heard the phrase. A million feelings and images rushed through her mind. A blank look came over her face. With extraordinary quickness, she made her way back to the castle. Every guard she saw, she hit, kicked, and otherwise fought, injuring and sometimes killing them. She made her way through the castle like this. No thought was in her mind. Anyone who stood before her fell like stalks of grass before wind. If they drew a weapon, she found a way to use it against them. Even the six Nighthawks could not stand. River burst through the door to where Nasuada and Arya stood, readying herself to throw a dagger in her hand at the Varden leader. Suddenly from behind her, a male voice cried out. "The king's plans have failed!" River's brown eyes showed confusion for a moment, then the girl collapsed and dropped the dagger. Behind her stood Simon, with Elva at his side. OOC: here's basically what just happened to her. lol, enjoy this fight scene from the movie Serenity:

OOC: lol i was going to after she activated. lol. oh well.
Tyr watched, pleased that River activated. Now, all he had to do was watch the show. Following her path of destruction, Tyr stayed a safe distance away as he followed her to the castle and hid himself outside of Nasuada's office.
*** Arya snapped her head to the door as she heard the chaos outside the room. Guarding Nasuada, Arya unsheathed her blade, prepared for whatever was about to enter.
Her mind flared as she watched River burst into the room, her appearance was shrouded with blood, no doubt from the men she killed to get hear. She tightened her hand on her blade, awaiting River to attack, but instead, Simon appeared.
She watched River carefully, ready for her in case she turned and decided to pounce.

Nasuada flinched, jumping back as the door crashed open. The girl who stood on the threshold of the room seemed familiar, but Nasuada could not place her. She was the empire's experiment... Her eyes widened when she saw the dagger the girl brought to hand, and she took a further step backwards. Behind River, lifeless corpses could barely be seen. Is this how I am to end? Slain by a girl? Will the Varden be able to recover from this? I have failed. As despair began to encompass her being, a strong, sure voice sounded behind her. River crumpled to the floor, and behind her was a man who shared a strong resemblance with her. At first, Nasuada could only stare. She had just come very close to death, and all that stopped it were a few words? Shaking her head, trying to clear her fear, she spoke to the man. "You had better explain quickly what just happened, or I will not hesitate to put steel through you, and her," she said, nodding towards River's limp form. Nasuada stepped forward, to stand next to Arya. This gained her a better view of the hall outside, and she nearly collpased in disbelief. The girl had destroyed even her nighthawks.
Although Arya was an excellent, experienced warrior, Nasuada wanted more soldiers here in case the girl decided to reinforce her attack. Letting her mind barriers down, she called out to the rider who was almost always present. Rider Elaine! Come quickly. She cast images of the hall and the room to the rider. The rider's reply was quick in coming.
Already on my way, my lady. With that, Nasuada resurected her barriers.

Simon knelt down next to River's motionless body, making sure the phrase had worked. It had; she was fast asleep, though her eyes were darting back and forth under her lids at a relentless pace. "The Empire did this to her," he said, "though I don't know how. I never suspected something like this would happen." He held his sister close to himself. He sighed, now knowing his sweet sister was dangerous. It seemed umbelievable. She had always seemed so frail since he rescued her, always on the edge of losing control. "Who...What did this to you, Mei-mei?" he asked her, using the affectionate name he had given to her when they were still children.

Nasuada grimaced. This girl was a high risk to her, and to the varden. The only solution was to keep her locked up, away from whatever, or whoever, had triggered the killing spree. The sound of light bootsteps accompanied with other, heavier steps, announced Elaine's arrival. Nasuada looked up, releived to find the rider accompanied by fresh soldiers; humans, dwarves, elves, even urgals. The rider glanced with a sour expression at the slain men in the hall, then stepped through the door and into the office. She brought a hand to her heart, "My lady." Nasuada inclined her head, and then quickly explained what had transpired. ~~~~
"This is terrible news." Elaine said, her eyes wide. She glanced at River and Simon. I could have prevented this, she thought, I should have known to keep River secluded! Eridor's voice burst into her mind. Do not blame yourself! You could not have forseen such events. All you can do now is mend what has been done. Elaine swallowed hard, unable to escape her guilt despite Eridor's words. "My lady, I will take River into my supervision. I will guard her with my life so that she cannot be used against us again." She glanced at River, noticing how Simon held her close. He was probably having a hard time coming to terms with what his sister had done as well. She returned her attention to Nasuada when the Varden leader began speaking. ~~~~
"That is uneccesary, argetlam. You are to precious to us to waist as a body guard. River will be placed in a well secured cell, guarded by nighthawks. None may see her unless I allow it. Elaine, please see to it." Nasuada was surprised when the rider disagreed.
"My lady, River is a good person. A cell would be a harsh fate for someone who cannot help what they do. Perhaps we could confine her somewhere more comfortable?" Elaine glanced at Simon, speaking as much for him as for River. He would not want his sister sitting in a cold cell.
Bringing a hand to her chin, Nasuada studied Elaine, then River and Simon. "Fine. But this room will have no windows. I want there to be no way out except the door." She was satisfied when Elaine bowed in compliance.
"I know the perfect place." Nasuada waved a hand in dismisal.
"Good. For now, you will be the only one allowed to see River." As an afterthought, she added to Simon, "you as well. In fact, I want you with her constantly. It seems you may be the only one who can stop her rampage. Now, go, before she wakes." Elaine bowed again, then gestured to Simon to take River and follow her.

"Thank you," Simon said to Nasuada as he picked River up. Holding her close, he followed Elaine to the room where they were to keep River. He avoided looking at the destruction his sister had wrought, disturbed by what had happened. He had suspected that there may have been more to what the Empire did to her than just messing with her mind, but he had never even imagined that River was capable of killing anything, much less hardened warriors and Urgals!. He looked at Elaine when they were out of hearing from Nasuada and Arya. "Thank you for speaking out for her," he said, eternally grateful that River wouldn't be kept in a cold, dark cell or any place like that.

Upon sheathing her sword, Arya gave out a small mental sigh to herself. She had sensed the power from River and knew that she might not have succeeded in defending Nasuada.
Once everyone left, Arya turned to the Varden's leader. Arya knew of River and Simon, but always thought they were harmless, especially with River's mental capacity...however, she always sensed great power from the young girl. "The threat may be subsided for now, but worries me more is who or what triggered the rampage."
*** Tyr frowned to himself as he sensed River's subduement. He growled. "Simon..." His eyes darkened as he maneuvered away from Nasuada's window, knowing that the she-elf would sense him soon. Crouching atop one of the towers in the shadows. Tyr closed his eyes and tried to locate River.

Even in her unconcious state, River heard all the voices, felt all the minds. She felt when Tyr's mind touched hers. This time, instead of fear, she felt simmering anger. What had the man done to her? She had never hurt anyone before, and never wanted to. Yet she hadn't been able to control herself. So now she was angry. She was angry at the dark mind who triggered this reaction and all the dark minds that made her this way. I'm going to stop them from hurting anyone else, she thought, and knew it was her own mind thinking it. ~~~~~ Elva walked slowly into the room, resisting the urge to try to help all the people River hadn't killed, but injured. She fought her magic with all her might, though none of the strain showed on her face. When she had subdued it, her eyes turned to Nasuada and Arya. She heard Arya's concern. "I would be worried, too," her erie voice rang out in the quiet room, "for it can only mean the Empire's servants are near, and possibly one of the Black Hand." OOC: I say she appears about...six right now. Since...argh, I can't say! Max, you gotta read that book! But, yeah, she looks about six right now. lol.

Slowing her walk, Elaine fell into step beside Simon. River was still unconscious, an uneasy rest as her eyes twitched back and forth beneath the lids. As Simon thanked her, Elaine waved a hand nonchalantly. "Of course. I know River's actions were unintentional. Keeping her in a cold cell wouldn't help her situation anyways."
Walking through the halls, Elaine couldn't beleive the amount of carnage River had amassed. Dwarf, Urgal, even elf. None could stand before her. Elaine wondered if perhaps she could have stopped the girl, but she strongly doubted it. I could have stopped her. intoned Eridor.
Yes, I suppose you could have. Turning to Simon, she asked, "Do you know what could have put River in this hostile state?" If it were a person, then he, or she, may still be around. ~~~~
Nasuada repelled the urge to run away from the mangled corpses and dying soldiers. When Elva spoke, the urge only became stronger. "The Black Hand has always been around, Elva. As for who initiated her attack..." she left her words open. They all knew that the empire was invovled, but not who specifically. The fresh soldiers Elaine had brought were in the hall tending to the injured or clearing away the corpses. Marching past them was King Orin. Nasuada sighed.
"Lady Nasuada, what has happened here!?" he asked, rather frantic. In a calm voice, she recalled the recent incident. "I see. How odd. I really wish you would have included me in plans for that girl's prison, but I will admit you were hard pressed for time. Fortunately, I agree."
Keeping her voice even, and keeping in Mind that this was his castle, his land, Nasuada replied, "of course, King Orin. If not for the dire state of the situation, I would have called for you immediately." The king nodded, then turned and swept back out of the room.
