Galbatorix sat upon the throne, his fingers drumming upon the golden gilding of the arm. The tendrils of black magic snaked throughout his fingers as he sat consumed in thought. He had secured the male child, Einar from the elf who was now under his control. He would raise the boy as his own and secure his future hold over Alagaesia. Still, he thought, it is wise to have a back up plan, just in case.
Calling forth a guard he spoke with a hint of his evil plan in his voice. “I have need of Mar. Call him forth now and be quick about it!” To emphasize his point, he shot a small black ball of fire at the guards feet, scorching the marble floor of the throne room. He waited, pleased with himself at the plan formulating within his mind. An evil smile played upon his lips.

Nashante sat atop the hill, watching as the sun came up over the horizon. The rays casting golden upon the land below. She loved her coven home in the Spine. She reflected on events as her life plan formulated in her mind. Her long, black hair flowed softly in the morning breeze as her deep, blue eyes scanned the hillside. She had found favor through her work for Galbatorix and soon, she would take over as leader of the Seithrs coven. The smile crept slowly over her lips as she thought about it. She enjoyed her work as an assassin in Galbatorix’s employ. As a seithr, she could do things that his other assassins could not. He intoxicated her with the power he wielded and their mutual business dealings benefitted her greatly. Laying back in the grass, she watched as the clouds drifted lazily across the clear, blue sky. Everything was within her grasp.

Mar rolled from his bed, pulling on his armor and weapons. He rinsed his mouth with mint water, then pulled on a cloak. A knock came to the door. He opened it, seeing a frightened young page. "The king sent for me?" Mar asked, knowing the answer. He brushed past the page, shutting the door behind him. He walked into the throne room, passing the guards without pause. "You called for me, your majesty?"

Galbatorix eyed him from the throne. Waving his hand as he talked he eyed Mar. "I find myself in need of your specialized services Mar." His eyes narrowed. "There is something I need from Nashante and I am afraid she may not willingly give it, I need you to bring her to me. Use whatever means necessary!"
Galbatorix leaned forward resting his arms upon his knees as he spoke now. "It is imperative that you do whatever is necessary to get her here." His eyes narrowed as he thought. "Plan on your assignment taking roughly nine or ten months. I want you focused on this exclusively! Do you understand?"

Mar felt something in the kings words, some kind of desire. He knew what it was, and it sickened him. Mar inclined his head. "Yes, sire. But one thing," he said. "You know how she sees me. This may be very difficult and may require extreme measures."

Standing, Galbatorix descended the stairs bearing down on him. "I don't care what you have to do. Just get her here. I will have an heir! No go!" He turned stomping back up to the throne. He threw himself down into it as he watched Mar leave.

Mar was furious. The king knew that Nashante had her eyes on Mar for mainly the same reason the king had his on her. It would be difficult, but he would need to pull it off so he could keep his head.'Well, it looks like I'll have to put on my charming scarf,' he thought to himself, laughing, as he saddled a horse and filled the bags with food and other supplies. Leaping atop the horse, he set off to go take Nashante from the heart of the Siether Witches Coven.

Nashante fell asleep on the hilltop. Her dreams full of what life held in store. She smiled as she lived her life out in the nether regions of sleep.

Mar rode into the night, pulling his cloak about him to block out the cold. He would be there in a few days, but he wanted to get there as soon as he could. 'The sooner I get there and back, the sooner I can get on with my life," he thought.

Nashante returned to her home in the coven. Night was falling and she had plans to put in motion. Calling Shana, her loyal aide, she started her plans. "I want you to keep an eye on Shi'nil. This relationship she seems to be having with that elf she met on her last assignment seems more than just...passing." Shana nodded and left. She would watch Nashante's sister as asked.
Nashante set about the second of her plans. Walking back into the cover of night in the forest, she made her way to the place for her sacred rituals. Instead of drawing down the moon, she called forth something else. Something dark and sinister. She appeared to be meditating as the light of the moon was covered by passing dark clouds. As they drifted away, Nashante sat in the middle of the clearing, surrounded by the swirling darkness. She was completely engulfed by it. The only time she was visible is when the darkness writhed or swayed allowing a brief glimpse of her to be seen.

As it wore on to midnight, Mar finally stopped. He made a camp, but no fire. He laid down under a large cottonwood tree, using the warmth saved in the wood to help him stay alive.

Nashante finished her ritual as the clouds cleared and the moon shone clear on the forest before. She made her way back to her lodge and lay down to sleep. It wouldn't be long and her plan would be ready to spring in to action.

Mar woke in the early morning, the sun still barely coming over the horizon. He wiped the dew from his cloak and blanket, checked his weapons for rust. He gave the horse some fodder, than ate a small apple for breakfast.

Nashante rolled over, slowly opening her eyes as the sun shone through her window. She was physically drained from her ritual the night before and rolled back over, sleeping heavily as a slight dark mist rose slowly, imperceptibly around her.

Mar rode on through the day until he reached a small town. He stopped, buying more supplies and resting for the day. He stayed at the local inn, just watching the street and drinking hot tea. He did not want to spend the night at the Coven, so he would spend it there.

Nashante rose as the moon was high in the sky again. Quietly she proceeded to perform her ritual, repeating the scene of the night before.
