Nashante began to fear Mar for the first time but her anger with him outweighed it by far. She would shut up for now.

Mar was angry, furious. He had never let anyone talk to him that way and live. It was only that oath she made fun of that kept her alive. He would make sure she paid, even if it cost him some pain in the end, she would remember him.

Nashante felt the ancient power withn her. Her thoughts turned from Mar and back to her own situation. She had not been able to finish the ritual therefore the power would grow within her unbound. Perhaps she could still control it. She thought about Mar’s words. The King had chosen her. Why she wondered silently. Could he possibly have been aware of her ritual and the implications? She pushed the thought from her head. There was no way for him to know. Whether he knew or not, she would have to find some way to dissuade him from his plans. The thought of being pregnant sickened her. She felt the contents of her stomach rise, her head being low to the ground across the back of the horse didn’t help the situation. She got sick, splattering the ground as they rode.

Mar smiled at Nashante as she emptied her stomach. "Feel better?" he asked, looking forward. "I do have to thank you though. You didn't get it all over the horse. That would have made it an extremely long ride."

Nashante glared at him. "Screw you and your damn horse!" She snarled the words at him as the frustration of being bound in this way was starting to cause her physical discomfort. She struggled against the bonds. This time, feeling the power of the darkness within her, she was able to loosen her ties a little. She smiled at the revelation.

Mar looked back at Nashante. He really hated treating her like this, but he had no other choice in the matter. "We will be stopping in a few minutes, and then you can walk around, wash if you like," he said, patting the horse on its neck.

Nashante continued to work at the bonds. Hearing Mar's tone soften toward her, she decided she would seize upon the opportunity. "Thanks!" she said sharply. "I would appreciate it."

They stopped at a grove of trees with a small stream running through it. He heard the change in Nashante's voice, and knew she was up to something, but he didn't care, so was he. He smiled slightly, helping her down. He undid the ropes around her feet, then tightened the ones around her hands. Walking with her over to the stream, he tripped her, throwing her into the chilly water. He laughed, then picked her out, tying her against a tree. "Well, you got you bath. Food now?"

Nashante cringed as the cold from the water slapped her. Now bound to the tree, she was cold, shivering and he had tightened her bonds again. No matter. She felt her anger fueling the darkness and began to work her magic against the ties binding her again. "You are a horse's ass Mar. You are taking pleasure in this and I shall not forget it!"

Mar smiled, taking some food from his pack and eating it in front of her. "Would you stop trying to get out of those? Using magic wont help you either." He sat across from her, eating an apple, the juice dripping down his chin. "I mean, we can be civil about all of this," he said with a full mouth.

Nashante now cold, hungry and tired finally gave in. She knew there was no way to get out of the King's summons. "Fine. I agree what are your terms."

Mar did not smile, did not show any facial expression. "These are my terms. You follow me to the king, no trouble, do what I tell you in terms of where to go for now, and do not fuss about what what I have you do."

"Fine! Agreed! I will follow you to the castle! Now untie me!" She glared at him angrily. She did not like to yield, especially to him.

Mar stood, looking at her. "Very well," he said, walking to her. "But if you go against your word, I swear I will hunt you down until the day I die." He untied her from the tree, undoing her legs and hands.
