Tenel Ka faced the soldier opposite of her. SHe held her long, turquoise blade in her hand, calmly waiting for him to strike. This was the third man she fought today. The first had tried to go easy on her, and she had disarmed him within seconds. By now they had learn and were attacking her more methodically. He aimed for her left side, apparently believing he had an unfair advantage due to her missing arm. She was ready for that move, though, and parried it away. She played with him for a while longer, then finally disarmed him, his blade flying away with a ringing sound. The man cried out in astonishment at the speed and strength she displayed. Tenel Ka said nothing, but slid her sword silently into its sheath. From nearby, she heard Caedus laugh. Now they will learn to never underestimate you, Princess, he told her. Tenel Ka mentally nodded and walked away. At the moment, her mind was far, far away. She was thinking of home.

Fayr clapped loudly as he walked lazily from his watching spot. He had watched the on armed woman fight since the first little fight. His opposite eyes glared brightly as he smiled. His weapons swayed silently as he walked after her lethargically. He was in no rush and his relaxed poise was something he was proud of. "I can't talk to you if your ten steps in front of me!" He called out after her laughing with a bright smile on his face. He unconsciously sent out a burst of pleasantly warm air from his person to give off a good impression.

Tenel Ka was moved from her thoughts of her home when she heard a voice call out at her. She turned to look at him. She noticed his strange eyes, but showed no surprise. She knew how irritating it could be to have people make a show of your oddities. She stayed where she was as he approached her. "If I had known you wished to speak with me, I would not have been so far away," she said pleasantly, though she didn't smile. Displaying her cheerfullness was not something she did as a princess, and old habits died hard.

Fayr took his time catching up with her. His nonchalant pace he knew could be annoying but it normally put people either on ease or set them off guard. He liked to play with both. He smiled noticing how she didn't react to his eyes and he knew it to be from personal experience from her arm. "Hey its all good!" He smiled this time letting out a nice breeze." The names is Fayr. Yours is?"

"Tenel Ka," she said, nodding in greeting, "Rider of Caedus. It is a pleasure, to be sure, Fayr." Smile, Princess, Caedus told her. He was still trying to teach her than displaying emotions wasn't all that bad. But she had spent her entire life creating a political mask to hide behind, as was expected for the queen in waiting. Still, she managed to turn the corners of her lips upward slightly.

Fayr dipped into a slow yet deep bow after her greeting was finished and finally closed the distance. "Trust me the honor is all mine." He saw her attempt at a smile and he returned it tenfold. "Well Tenel Ka you have one interesting name, is it something ancestral?" He wondered if she was from some religious group or something.

Tenel Ka nodded at his question. Most of the royal family had two parts to their first name. It was a tradition even older than being ruled only by queens for her country. In more recent years, more families had been picking up on the tradition, as well. It was not uncommon to meet someone from her country with two first names. "Yes, actually," she told him, "It is an old family tradition of mine. All the women in my family have two first names."

Fayr listened intently nodding slightly taking in all the information and keeping it safely in his head. The girl was said to not say much about her past and it would be best if he would remember as much as possible to piece together the clues. "Interesting. That's kind of like my family. My mother and hers before that and so on were named........Ma ma." He smiled chuckling slightly at his poor attempt at humor.

Tenel Ka stared at him for a few minutes, not getting the joke. Humor wasn't one of things she was taught, and the joke Fayr gave was an incredibly bad one. He's trying to be funny, Princess, Caedus told her, though he's not doing a very good job at it. You could still oblige him with a smile. Why would I smile if it wasn't even worth smiling at? she asked him. To make him feel better at having to sense of humor, he said with a laugh of his own. Tenel Ka mentally shook her head. "So what do you do for the Varden, Fayr?" she asked him.

Fayr watched as his horrible attempt at humor didn't budge the girl. He had hoped that it would make her laugh at him, but alas no luck. He smiled hoping some of his cheer would rub off even though he wasn't really happy. "The Varden? I don't work for the Varden unless I choose to so you can say I'm a mercenary. I'll kill, injure, or do what I want for them for a good reward in return." He shrugged his shoulders as if it was the simplest thing in the world and to him it was. he was living the dream. His body seemed to be made for fighting and he loved it.

Tenel Ka nodded a little at his explaination. It entirely made sense to her. "I see," she said, "I, too, am not officially a part of the Varden. They allow me to live and learn among them in exchange for making known their plight to my queen when I return home." She closed her eyes and made a face. "If the queen I left is the one still there when I return, I have resonable faith that she will lend them aid. However, I am not certain this will be the case." She felt a little saddened at that thought. With her absence, any number of assassins could move on her mother and place whoever they wanted on the throne. And there were plenty who had the means and the will. She could only hope that her mother had enough instinct to survive the attacks that were aimed at her by the rest of the royal family.

Fayr listened nodding having heard that much already. Fayr thought it strange to help someone on a promise that could never happen. he liked to stick with the completes and known. As she talked about the queen his mind immediately took apart what she said. Either the queen had to be very kind to let some random person in or the girl had some connections. Also the queen would either be old or a candidate for murder to not be back by the time Tenel went. He was going to ask how much where the people paying to assassinate since he knew someone who would be willing to travel, but thought it best not to say out loud. "Interesting. May I ask why you have come to this country?"

Tenel Ka inclined her head at the question. "You may," she told him, "in answer to the question, I have come because I am the first Rider my country has produced, and I need proper training. I shall return home once my training is complete."

Fayr nodded knowing what she said made sense. A rider would need the best training or they wouldn't be worth anything to their nation. "How did you even hear of the rider down here though? From what I understand we, meaning Alagasiea, didn't know of you before." Her story didn't fully make sense so he hoped she would fill him in. He might even make some profit.

Tenel Ka considered his question carefully beofre answering. "Some time ago, long before I was born, a dragon and Rider came to my country. They came to see if any dragon eggs would hatch for any of my countrymen. For two centuries they met no success. The Rider and dragon finally decided to return home, but they left an egg behind in the care of a friend. A few days afterward, the egg hatched and my country had our first Rider."
