Stefan agreed with Cherilyn. "It is true. That dragon has nearly killed me on several occasions merely because I managed to strike a small blow on her Rider during 'training.'" He shook his head slightly at the word. For him it wasn't so much training as it was torment. They fought with sharpened swords, and Vana had must more mastery over the blade than he did, and whenever he did manage to best her, Viel would become furious. It was a no-win situation for him. "Jueru will carry as many as he must. He has always pushed himself, and has been without a challenge for many months, besides the challenge of patience. He will relish this escape attempt. Besides, after we have gone some distance from the city, we can stop for a short time and you will be able to mount your dragon." He glanced out the door, seeing the white light of the moon reflecting off Jueru's peridot scales. "If your dragon is nearly here, then we have no time to waste." He glanced at Cherilyn and pointed to a small building, almost a shed, inside the courtyard. "Jueru's saddle is in there. Cherilyn, if you can recognize it, can you grab it while Jaygon and I unbind him?"

Jaygon immediately knelt beside Jueru without a word and began to work on his bonds. Jaygon was going to try to release the bonds while making the least amount of noise as possible. I could try and turn his bonds to a liquid form, but that might take a lot of energy well It's worth a try. I will wait a moment before mentioning my idea.

Following Stefan's gaze, Cherilyn spotted the crude building he indicated. "Yes." she said, nodding once. "And quickly." Steeling herself for the trial ahead, she stepped from the hidden chamber and ghosted across the courtyard to the shed. Her eyes kept an almost constant vigil on Viel. The dragon slumbered deeply, it seemed. She could hear the deep breaths the red dragon inhaled and exhaled. Shaking away fear, she turned her gaze forward and successfully reached her destination. The door to the structure was locked, but a small bit of magic had it open shortly. Stepping inside, Cherilyn blinked to adjust her eyes to the darkness within. She didn't dare to make a light, in case the sleeping guard outside should wake. Fortunately the moon was full this night, and it's light swept inside and guided her sight. Resting atop a mound of leather was Jueru's saddle, which she recognized almost instantly. She could not count the times she had saddled Cordelia next to Jueru under the supervision of Tismri or Trinn. Smiling faintly at the memory, she snatched up the saddle and made way back to Stefan and the rest.

Stefan slipped around in front of Jueru, who gave a silent exclamation of joy, knowing that he would not be leaving his Rider behind. Stefan placed his forehead on the dragon's brow for a moment. This is going to be tricky, he said, looking at the heavy chains that shackled Jueru to the stone floor. It would be easy enough to unlock them, but to do so without Viel's noticing would be difficult. I'm going to hide behind your legs as I unlock them, and I won't take them off. If you could move slightly when they make noise, appear to be making yourself more comfortable, we could hide what's happening from her. Then we can take off when there is sufficient distraction and be gone before Viel even realizes what has happened. I hope you know what you're doing, Jueru said, stretching out his legs to provide hiding places for the two-legs while they worked on releasing him. So do I, Stefan agreed. He informed Jaygon in whispered tones what his plan was, then set to work.

"Wait! I can try to turn the chains into a liquid it would make no sound at all," Jaygon whispered indicating the chains. As he awaited a response he tried to feel all the impurities in the metal.

Returning the group, Cherilyn carefully set down the saddle. Her gaze shifted constantly to Viel's slumbering form. The dragon's scales shone like garnets in the moonlight, and it was strangely threatening. She looked then to what Jaygon was doing. "That's brilliant!" she said to him in a bare whisper. She crept closer to watch the metal fade to a thick liquid. "What is the spell?" she asked, "I can work on one of the chains." Glancing up at Jueru, Cherilyn rested a hand on the leg that was closest to her. "You'll be out soon, friend."

"Adurna," the chain immediately turned to water, "that is the spell." Jaygon preceded to tell Turma to stay outside the castle until she knew it was the time. "Turma is ready for departure and a fight."

Stefan paused a moment, processing the new information Jaygon's idea gave him. He had to adjust his plan slightly, which was quite a pain for him, but he knew that this new one would be more likely to keep them all alive. Viel would be none the wiser if they could release Jueru's shackles without any noise. He still left open in his mind the possiblity that the dragon would awaken, and try to stop them. "All right, let's do that," he said, "But quickly; the longer we are here, the greater the chances of Viel awakening."
Jueru glanced back at Cherilyn, feeling her comforting hand on his leg. He blinked at her in appreciation, eagerly awaiting his freedom from this place. They had been imprisoned in Uru'baen for far too long. He'd glimpsed Stefan's original, half-brained scheme in his mind, and knew that if things would have gone mostly according to plan, he would have grabbed the human before he left and dragged him from Uru'baen, even if his name hadn't changed. He was glad it had, though, so he wouldn't have to resort to such drastic measures.

Oh no! Jaygon thought. "A magician just touched my mind enough of this silence." Jaygon drew his sword and cut one of the chains.

Moving to Jueru's right back leg, Cherilyn crouched down beside his large foot and inspected the chain that bound him. She was outraged to see her friend tied down in such a way, unable to fly into the sky whenever he desired. Cherilyn inspected the fetter a little further, and muttered the same word Jaygon had. The spell drained her more than she had thought it would, and when at last the metal was no more than a puddle, she slumped against Jueru's leg, a sheen of sweat covering her face. She became alert again when a clear ring echoed across the courtyard. Her eyes darted to Viel.
The dragon shifted, then lifted her head, nostrils scenting the air. Her tongue slithered out, and a hiss drew tightly from her throat. Lurching to a stand, Viel spread her wings and flapped them in outrage. Then, a great, mighty roar tore from the red dragon, seeming to shake the air with anger and indignation.
Cherilyn paled, and hurried around to Stefan. "The saddle!"

"Quickly get on and leave me here, it will take more than a mere hatchling to defeat me!" Jaygon moved into his ready stance. Turma escort them out then come back for me. Jaygon felt Turma agree reluctantly.
"My dragon will escort you out of the city now quickly fly you fools!" Jaygon screamed throwing his cloak off revealing silver hair deep blue eyes and a long sleeved tunic with leggings his white curved sword seemed to burn the air near its blade.

Stefan grimaced as his worst fear of this expedition was realized, and Viel awoke. He grabbed the saddle and swung it onto Jueru's back, securing it in an instant. Then he grabbed Cherilyn around the waist and swung into the saddle. Fly, friend! he told the dragon, keeping calm despite his surmounting fear. Jueru leapt upward toward the high crescent moon.
From a window upstairs, Saenon watched the goings-on. In truth, she had been observing them the entire time, unsure what to do. Duty told her she should stop them, but the words she had heard Stefan say to the girl earlier still reverberated within her mind. I would rather die than see you harmed... Why did that phrase wrack her with so much guilt? What had she to be ashamed of? All she ever did was her duty. His face entered her mind, and she cringed away from it. Traitor, she thought, though her eyes once again welled with tears. Viel's angry roars shook her out of her hole of self-pity, and she watched as the smaller green dragon took to the sky. She had a feeling Viel would not allow them to escape, no matter what. "Draumr." The word was out of her mouth before she could control herself. The intent was simple, to distort Viel's vision so the dragon couldn't see properly where Jueru was. She didn't know why she was helping Stefan get away. She just wanted to.

Viel's vision burned with rage. She watched for a brief second as Stefan and his she-friend mounted the green one. Jueru took flight. A second later she launched from the wall after them, wings beating furiously. She had nearly reached the tip of Jueru's tail, had a foot extended to swipe, when suddenly there were four green dragons in her vision. Snarling in surprise, Viel followed through with her attack, and her talons met some resistance, but too little for her liking. Growling in rage, Viel attempted to fly after them, but she could not focus. Opening her maw wide, she resorted to releasing a pillar of crimson fire toward her escaping prey. ~~
Vana rushed out into the dragon courtyard, her hair wild around her face. She had been awoken by Viel's rage, and worried for her bond, had rushed out bothering only to clad herself with a breastplate. Domia rested naked in her hand. Her mind stretched out, trying to find the magician who tampered with Viel's vision.

Jaygon seized this chance to charge forward and try to cut the enemy rider's skull. His curved blade danced. While he was doing that he decided to try and limit this rider's thought range and try to contact the now apparently friendly rider.
Jaygon found Saenon with his mind. What is disturbing you and do you wish to talk about it? Jaygon asked his mind brushing against hers.
Turma glided over the castle. Ah! That must be them. she thought sighting a green dragon with to riders on it's back. The great white dragon glided down from the clouds and positioned herself between the green dragon and the castle.

Cherilyn looked behind her, arms circled tight around Stefan's waist. Her eyes widened as Viel drew imminently closer. The dragons white fangs gleamed savagely in the moonlight. Just as it seemed the dragon would be upon them, Viel's flight wavered, her eyes seemed to unfocus. But regardless, talons swept out at them, and Cherilyn cringed against Stefan. When seconds passed and they were still aloft, Cherilyn opened her eyes hesitantly once more, looking again over her shoulder. Viel had fallen behind them, her flight strangely labored. She could not stay a steady path, and instead fluttered uncertainly. A sudden piercing shriek rent the night, a sound of fury that made Cherilyn' blood run cold. But Viel did not catch up to them. A thunderous sound was next, and a white dragon sailed into position behind them, like a glittering and massive cloud. The ancient dragon! she thought to herself, and a new sense of hope was restored to her. ***
Vana saw from the corner of her eye the flash of a blade. Sneering in contempt at the attack, she twisted and brought Domia up. The strength of the attacker made her slide back and tear the earth with her boots. The elf, for he was apparently so, was stronger than she. He was different from the rest of his kind. Their swords trembled as they were held locked together. "Who are you!" she shouted, a bead of perspiration appearing on her brow. Her search for the magician clouding Viel's vision ceased, as she turned her complete attention on the elf.
