Cherilyn came to a dead halt at Stefan's pronouncement. Behind her Cordelia growled, a noise of warning and sorrow. "I see." she said after a moment, blinking away the tears she felt threatening to betray her emotions. Her heart skipped a beat when he drew his sword. Every motion seemed a struggle for him, she noticed, and it relieved her to know that the Stefan she knew was still there. "I'm so sorry, Stefan." she said, stepping back from him as she spoke. The staff came up in front of her in a defensive manner. "I promise, you won't be Galbatorix's captive forever." She began circling him, trying to keep a distance. All she wanted was to talk to him, if only for a moment.

Stefan watched her carefully as she spoke, seeing that she was about to resist. He felt himself grow cold inside. Though he had no doubt she was much better in handling her weapons and fighting now, the harsh training sessions with Vana over the months had made him into a much more cruel and vicious swordsman. And where his true name was involved, the battles that progressed were instinctual actions directed by Galbatorix's will. Without control over his body, he lunged at her, his sword angling under her staff. "Not forever, perhaps..." Stefan replied to her, "but until the day I die. I can see no other way..."

OOC: Hmm, sorry about that shewolf. We'll think of something.
Anticipating Stefan's attack, Cherilyn swung up her staff so that his blade slid harmlessly away from her. The attack however had been ferocious, more brutal than she remembered his style. The six months away had worked many changes upon him, it seemed. "There is another way!" she said desperately, back pedaling quickly away from him. "Stefan, you can change your true name!" Unwilling to take the offensive, Cherilyn continued to circle Stefan at a distance. "You must change who you are. Then, your true name will change. Stefan, you can escape!"

OOC: Yeah...sorry about that. Depending on what direction this fight takes, we may head back to Uru'baen, so you can come back then. Stefan's expression changed slightly, expressing a hint of hope at Cherilyn's words. The driving force behind his name brought his sword in an arc over her head. He had not practiced much against staves before, and as such Cherilyn had perhaps a slight advantage. Still, try as he might, Stefan couldn't stop himself from attacking her. "But how can I?" he asked her. "And is it possible to do so...before I am forced to complete this order? Galbatorix has left no loopholes, Cherilyn. He has learned his lesson through Murtagh. Unless my name changes this instant, I cannot stop myself from this attack." OOC: I think this is the oddest fight I have ever done. lol

OOC: I will second that lol
Fending off Stefan's attacks was a challenge. The force that sped him forward was one that demanded results. Delay was not an option for Stefan. The thought pained Cherilyn. As her staff pushed back another attack, she responded quickly. "No, you could not change it immediately. Stefan... I won't let you return to Galbatorix. I will capture you!" Feeling suddenly hopeful by this idea, Cherilyn began putting an edge to her defensive movements. She started shifting to more offensive attacks. The staff gave her an advantage of reach. It allowed her to keep Stefan back and attack him. In the back of her mind Cordelia whined. She was anxious for her rider, and for Stefan.

Stefan was so surprised by Cherilyn's statement that even his forced movement paused momentarily. Had she gone mad? This was a battle for him to capture her, not the other way around. Her resistance would mean her death, for those were his orders. His sword moved to fend off her attacks as she became more aggressive toward him, and he spun around behind her, sweeping his blade around to her shoulder. "Capture me?" he asked. "How are you going to do that? I told you that if you resist I must kill you!" Though he struggled violently, his mind could not resume control of his body, which was following Galbatorix's commands.

Twirling to the side Cherilyn avoided a near hit to her shoulder. She retaliated by thrusting the but of her staff at Stefan's stomach in order to knock the wind from him. "I won't let you kill me." she said determinedly, turning to face him again. The movement brought her to a spot where she could see Cordelia clearly. A sudden idea sprang to her mind, and she renewed her attacks on Stefan. She was careful to keep his back towards Cordelia. If she could get him close enough to her bond...

Stefan blocked the staff and tilted backwards just in time to avoid being winded by the weapon. He did not avoid the blow entirely, however, and received a small bruise on his stomach. He took a few steps back as she turned to face him, preparing for another attack. However, he became aware that Cordelia was behind him and instantly felt exposed. During one of his many training sessions with Vana, he had temporarily forgotten that Viel was present in the courtyard as well. At one point when he had very nearly landed a scratch on Vana, the dragon had been outraged and swiped her claws across his back. He still bore a nasty scar from the encounter, though oddly thanks to Saenon, it was not as bad as it might have been. But it had helped him become more aware of a dragon's role in a fight. He turned so that Cordelia was to his left and Cherilyn to his right. "Do you think I want to kill you?" he asked her, his voice hard, but lacking in emotion at the same time.

OOC: lolz this battle IS odd. I still dont know wat to post so ill just wait and watch until something happens where i can post. lol i hope that she captures Stefan so he can change his true name and be free. that would suck if galbatorix sent Jierda to help capture Cherilyn, because then i dont think cheriyn would have much of a chance agaist two riders.

When Stefan easily evaded being backed into a corner, Cherilyn cursed under her breath. Of course it wouldn't be easy. Even after her hard training, Stefan still outmatched her in combat. But she couldn't allow it to be true. For both their sakes. "Of course not." she cried out, feeling desperate. "I know you don't have a choice in this." Cordelia began to creep slowly closer to Stefan stealthily. Only the tip of her tail twitched. She was like a cat carefully stalking it's prey. Knowing she had to keep Stefan distracted, Cherilyn suddenly advanced, flourishing her staff at him in complicated attacks. "Stefan, think, think of how you can change." She said, hoping that while he was busy defending himself from her attacks he would also begin thinking of this.

Stefan gritted his teeth slightly at Cherilyn's words, knowing that she would keep fighting until one of them was defeated. If she knew he had no choice, why did she keep this up? He was distracted as she gave a complicated series of attacks in his direction. Even as he blocked them, he became aware of Cordelia creeping closer. The two of them worked well together, having almost cornered him. He side-stepped and hopped a bit away. "Cherilyn, I don't want this. If we keep fighting, one of us is going to be dead, and I could never live with myself if I killed you." He paused for a moment to gather his thoughts. "I think...maybe if I managed to bring you back to Uru'baen, I could then find a way to let you escape. As far as I know, Galbatorix has said nothing as to what I am to do after I capture you..." He thought quickly, forming a plan he hoped would work.

The thought of going to Uru'baen and being brought before Galbatorix made Cherilyn shiver. She wondered if the mad king had discovered her true name. And Cordelia... she despised the thought of her bond under such suffrage. But there was no choice, she realized even as she continued her attack on Stefan. He was the better fighter, which meant ultimately, Cherilyn would be the one lying dead on the ground at the end of the spar. Cherilyn... Cordelia said anxiously, sensing her rider's emotions. Feeling trapped, Cherilyn frowned and relented, back pedaling from stefan. "I understand, Stefan" she said. When she was sufficient distance from him, Cherilyn halted and dropped her staff to the ground. "I don't want to see either of us hurt from this situation. This is the only way." There was a pool of regret in her eyes, and Cordelia whined softly.

Stefan watched as Cherilyn submitted and sheathed his sword, hating the corner they were both backed into. Galbatorix was truly playing an unfair game with them, but Stefan hoped he had the upper hand now. If only the king wouldn't take into account that he would try to free her. He glanced over at Cordelia, thinking. His orders were to capture Cherilyn and her dragon if possible. He knew it wouldn't be physically possible to wrest a dragon to his will, and he wasn't about to coerc Cordelia to his will. "The dragon courtyard is monitered night and day, and often by a particularly vicious red dragon. It would be difficult to get you out, Cordelia, and a bit more showy than the situation calls for. I know it's asking a lot, but it could mean life or death here. Would you mind being separated for Cherilyn for a while?"
