OOC: Oops, sorry Van. lol
Kat had been watching Vanilor fly in the months since he had first learned. He was really quite a natural at it, she could tell, and was perfectly at home in the sky. But she was more than a little anxious about joining him there. Flight was not something she anticipated, any more than learning how to use magic. It seemed unnatural. Before now, as Van prompted her to ride him, she would always give the excuse that he was too small. But that was no longer viable; he was more than fair sized. Are you sure, Van? she asked, still hesitant. You have been flying since before the sun rose today. I don't want you tired out. ~~~~~ Malevolence looked around the city of Gil'ead with interest. It was a well fortified location, with more guards and soldiers around than he had anticipated. The tavern might point you in the right direction, he told Marek. Likely, we are looking for some place well hidden and underground. In a city as guarded as this, it may take a bit of searching, but I believe we will find it.

Vanilor snorted at the implication that he was tired. I am positive! His voice assured. Flying has become as natural as breathing is. Come Kat! Ride me! If we are to become leaders of the Hunt, you must ride me! The dragon stomped his claws onto the dusty courtyard. We will show them that we have no equals! He nudged her, encouraging her to get on the saddle.
*** Then I shall visit the taverns. Marek stated as he entered the nearest tavern. Glancing around, Marek decided to sit at the bar, hoping to figure out some information from the bartender. "What be you having?" The large man behind the bar asked. "Mead, good sir, and some information about where I can find someone who is skilled in the arts of aquirement..." Marek slipped a gold crown onto the table, a thin smile on his lips as he allowed the man to realize that he was interested in hiring a thief.

Kat continued to hesitate as Vanilor pushed her to ride him. They had the saddle and everything needed. When he mentioned proving that they had no equal, she finally climbed on. Very well, Vanilor, she said firmly, although her stomach clenched at the thought of what they were about to do. Let us prove that we, and no others, are the true masters of the sky. She gripped firmly on the neck spike in front of her in anticipation. ~~~~~ Malevolence watched as Dastan set to work bribing the barkeep for information on the thieves. The keep's eyes glinted at the sight of the gold coin. "Ah, so you need one from that trade," he said as he inspected the coin. "Well, they do have a presence in this city...I seem to have trouble recalling where to find them, though." He pointedly tapped the coin against the side of his head. As a spirit, Malevolence couldn't understand the humans' attachment to those small objects. Why were they held in such value that everyone would lie, cheat, and steal in order to obtain more of them? The time he spent in Marek's mind brought him some clarity on the matter, but it still made little sense to him.

Excellent, Kat! You will not regret it! This is what we are meant to do together! He told her proudly as he arched his neck. He then tensed his leg muscles as he prepared to lauch into the sky. I will go slow for now, Kat. He told her fondly. I notice the other day that a two legged had rid himself of his lunch after he had flown a dragon. I do not want the same to happen to you. His voice was filled with affection as he slowly glided into the air. Pumping his wings, he slowly ascended into the sky. How are you feeling? He asked her as he finally leveled off. The thrill of the wing beneath his wings was perfect for Vanilor. In the sky, he felt free and powerful. There was nothing that could bring them down!
*** Marek didn't reveal his annoyance at the bartended for desiring more money. He carefully placed another gold coin down. "Surely, you can remember? I would hate to think a man young as yourself is already facing old age." Marek smiled innocently as he slid the coin toward him with a finger.

Kat smiled slightly at Van's promise to go slow. She was glad he was so thoughtful of her. The dragon probably cared more about her wellbeing than any human ever had. Still, her stomach lurged and she grasped onto his neck spikes tightly as the ground dropped below them and they ascended above the city. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. I'm...I'm fine, she assured Vanilor when he asked about her. She could feel him leveling underneath her, and she mustered the courage of open her eyes. Through their bond, she could sense his jubilation at being in the sky, and it managed to make her feel a little less uncomfortable with the prospect. This just takes some getting used to... She stared at the city below them and the vast landscape around them, amazed by the view. She had never seen a sight quite so spectacular. ~~~~~ "Hmm...perhaps the memory is coming back to me. I heard they were somewhere in the western district of the city," the barkeeper said as he accepted another coin. Malevolence watched with impatience. Humans truly were greedy creatures. Either threaten him or hand over the entire coinpurse, he told Marek out of exasperation. He is just wasting our time right now.

OOC: Mind if I step in?
Vana stepped out into the bright sunshine of spring, her armor clinking softly. Blinking away the spots in her vision, she looked around the dragon court. Viel lounged atop the rampart, though she was far too big now to look comfortable on the wall. The dragon was too fond of the spot to give it up, though, and Vana imagined Viel would sit there until the wall eventually crumbled from her weight. Viel lifted her head and crooned down at Vana, catching the gaze of some of the riders and dragons present in the courtyard. The only time Viel did not sound vicious was in her interactions with Vana. Or perhaps Typhon and Kyler.
Care to do some rounds? she asked her bond, and Viel promptly hopped down off the rampart. She landed on all fours, shaking the ground with the impact of her bulk. Vana strode over to Viel's side and easily climbed to her back and into the saddle. Viel launched from the ground, spiraling into the sky in a flash of sparkling red scales. Vana hunched low to the dragons back to keep them streamlined. Viel leveled out by flaring her wings suddenly, the air billowing beneath the glossy membranes. Vana sat up straighter now and looked about. She immediately caught sight of Vanilor, and it was Viel who noted that Kat was riding him.
Is that so? Well, it's about time. Vana remarked. Take us a bit closer. I want to see the progress they've made. Viel obliged and glided closer to the young dragon and rider. Vana tried to stay objective as they approached. Katriana was a woman Vana had never been able to like. Mostly because everytime she spoke to the woman, Kat looked at her like she was something filthy. Vana had been disappointed, rather than elated, when Katriana had managed to bond a dragon. Viel came to a hover a reasonable distance from the pair, letting Vana observe their flight.

OOC: Not at all! =)
Do not worry, Kat. I will protect you! Van assured Kat. He pumped his wings lightly, letting them just glide in the air so that Kat could get accustomed to flying. He felt her amazement with the view around them, which caused him to hum pleasantly. His good mirth was ruined when he spotted a garnet dragon not to far off, observing them. Viel! He chomped his mouth as he communicated to Kat. I will show her that I am Master of the skies and not she! He declared to Kat as he flew closer to the Red pair.

Kat relaxed a bit more as Van glided upon the air. The bright sun reflected off his scales and glinted off her ebony armor as the feeling of flying became more natural. Suddenly, Kat saw through Vanilor's eyes the familiar crimson dragon nearby. She looked over in Viel's direction and gave Vana a casual look of distaste. The two must be curious as to Vanilor's development. She grew more concerned as Van angle toward the two. Are you certain you are ready to challenge them? she asked. Viel is bigger than you and has had more experience. She will not submit lightly. She smiled slightly and patted his neck as she looked back at the pair she despised. I already know you are far better than she is. Just look at who she chose as her Rider! A servant's dragon is just a servant as well. A noble's dragon is noble.

Vanilor hummed, pleased with Kat's words. He pumped his wings a bit harder, just increasing their speed by a little; Van did not want Kat to feel uncomfortable. I only wish to show her that I can fly now! I know I am still small, but when I get bigger, then she shall fall from her tower and we will rise as the victor! Vanilor huffed out. We need to fly more so you can become use to this wonderous feeling, Kat! And then we can start training for dragon fights! Vanilor's excitement was evident in his voice as he flew closer to Viel.
