Jeriah blinked for a second at the question. A slight smile crossed her face. "I learned it when I found you," she told him, "When I found you and Ganer...he told me." OOC: *fumes, screams, rants*

OCC: lol *laughs maniacally* Lathem bit the inside of his cheek, afraid of what he was about to find out. "How did Ganer know?"

Jeriah sat down and looked gently at Lathem. She had a feeling her news would shock him. "Love, I think you should sit down..." She gestured next to herself.

Lathem sat down on the bushy grass and looked at her intently. "What?"

Jeriah hesitated for another moment, gazing at the stars and composing her thoughts. "That day, when I found you, I also found Ganer kneeling next to you. I was almost incohenent, because you were almost dead, and you weren't letting me help you. Ganer was talking, mostly to himself, saying 'I have killed my own brother...'" She looked back at Lathem to see if he was catching on to what she was saying.

Lathem's face was blank for a moment, then the corner of his mouth twitched. "M-my brother?" Lathem thought back to all those times he went over to Ganer's house and saw his father. He was tall and lanky, had a well-kept beard, and always gave Lathem a warm smile whenever he came. Lathem's whole face seemed to be twitching now, his eyes shining with held-in tears. The man did resemble Lathem, now that he thought of it. Then another thought rushed into Lathem's mind. The memory of when a random man helped Lathem. A man named Uafan. His cousin. That was too much for Lathem. He fell back and closed his eyes, tears pouring out from underneath. When he spoke, his voice was raspy and could almost not be understood. "I am not Lathem Nonesson. I am Lathem Safensson..." His lips upturned in a smile and suddenly he was gone; passed out. Zamah crawled forward and laid his maw on Lathem's forehead for a moment. Telling Jeriah, he said, I knew about it. Safen knew about me also. As did Ganer. But I made them swear not to tell that they knew me, and they in turn made me swear that I would not reveal their secrets. Now I see that is not needed. But I'm afraid Lathem will never talk to his real father again...he was killed by an assasin, no doubt hired by the king. It's as if the king wanted Lathem to stay insane...needed him. Zamah stopped for a moment, then continued. Maybe he was afraid that together, Lathem and I could change people's minds. Turn the riders against him. He didn't know where I was. I was in Ellesmera, moping around. I am sorry for having not pursued Lathem, but that made him a better person, and in turn, made me better as well. Stopping again, Zamah started chuckling. Hmph. It seems I have one off topic.

Jeriah let out a little cry of surprise when Lathem passed out. Then she listened to Zamah's words carefully. She stroked Lathem's dark hair out of his eyes, smiling that she had made him happy. She turned to Zamah. "I'm afraid I nearly went insane when I heard what happened to Lathem. I simply couldn't believe he would turn to Galbatorix. Hearing that that false king killed his real father makes me even angrier at him." She sighed, then pushed herself back on her original topic. "I'm so glad Oranthor and Jahag were with me during that time. I don't think I would have made it were it not for them. I'm still amazed that somehow, while I was still so depressed, I was smart enough to join the Varden. Even if I didn't accomplish my original goal--making Lathem see that joining Galbatorix was wrong--I still helped them do a lot of good." She stood up and patted Zamah's snout, then hugged Oranthor. I'm glad to have you both here, she told them, gazing at Lathem. A smile graced her face as the scar over her heart burned with her love.

Zamah gave a happy growl and laid down next to Lathem. We can wait a little while...he'll wake up. Then we can go. To Paonia. The word traveled through Lathem's head, awakening him. "Are we there yet?"

Jeriah laughed at Lathem's question. "We haven't even left yet, hon," she said, going over to him. Shey laid down beside him and stared up at the stars. "But we'll be there soon..."

Lathem smiled for a moment, then got up. "We should go then, right?" Zamah nipped at his long hair. Aye, small ones. We should go before dawn breaks, eh?

Jeriah hesitated and glanced around herself. She was about to leave Alagaesia, her home, everything she knew, and go to a country she wasn't even entirely sure existed. The thought of it rooted her to the spot, making her unsure if she wanted to go. But she would be leaving with Oranthor. And she would be leaving with Lathem. Wherever they were, it would be home enough for her. She walked over to Oranthor. "Well, parnters of my heart," she said to both Oranthor and Lathem, "let us leave for our new home." As she climbed atop Oranthor's shoulders, a song began forming in her mind. Softly, yet clearly in the quiet night, she started to sing it. Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadow, to the edge of night Until the stars are all alight. Mist and shadow, Cloud and shade, All shall fade, All shall fade.

OCC: How do you make those up?!!?!??! Lathem clambered up to Zamah's back and started singing a harmony that matched Jeriah's. Their dragons floated up into the air and soon their voices were ringing throughout the sky. Their eyes were bright, their voices loud, and away they flew, into the dawn's early light. The streaks made their hair seem like they were on fire, their eyes lit with bright light. Their smiles made them angelic and soon, they were gone over the ocean, into the dying moonlight, and into the growing light. THE END OF LATHEM, JERIAH, ORANTHOR, AND ZAMAH'S STORY

OCC: lol...I'm going to miss Lathem and Jeriah...and when we're finished with all the threads we have them in, we can make new riders. Like I can make another neutral and you can make another Varden. Sweet, eh?
