She swam up to the surface to see Taran laughing. "Okay. Do you know I think we have to be about the cleanest people in these parts." Grabbing Taran's shirt she put in on and proceeded to wade back to the shore. The wet shirt clung to her and was almost too short. So she pulled on it in the back with her hands to lengthen it a little.

Taran waded out from the pool, still laughing. His leather breaches filled with water, he wattled like a penguin. He watched Aethelwyne fuss with the shirt, smiling at her trying to make it fit. He sat near the dead fire, throwing more logs on and igniting it again to dry their clothes.

Aethelwyne stood watching Taran work on the fire. 'This is what happy feels like? I could get used to this. She brought the clothes over to the fire and laid them to dry. Grabbing a blanket from the bedroll, she wrapped it under her arms around her and took off Taran's shirt so that it could dry also. She sat by the fire and watched the flames dance.

Taran walked into the woods to change from his leather breaches into simple cloth. Returning, he set the leather near the fire to dry. Sitting next to Aethelwyne, he pulled a blanket from his pack to dry himself off.

As Aethelwyne sat next to Taran she glanced out past the pool and saw a beautiful, white horse, standing watching. "Taran look. Isn't he beautiful?" She pointed in the direction of the horse.

Taran looked at the white horse, a stark contrast against the darker background. It reminded him of Narth, and that they were there to find him. 'Narth!' he thought. Jumping up from his bedroll, he ran out to the horse. 'Narth, where have you been?' The horse didn't reply, didn't even move. 'Narth?' A loud shout came from the tree line as a few arrows flew by Taran's head.

Aethelwyne heard the shout and saw the arrows barely miss Taran. She grabbed her sword, running toward the tree line in the direction the arrows flew from. She was barefoot and the blanket that was wrapped around her fell as she ran. "Perfect." she yelled now angry. 'Careless. Getting caught off guard.' As she ran she waved her hand across her face and her body. Her hair changed to red and her eyes to green. Her skyclad form now had a flowing green gown on. The gown was an illusion but it would work on everyone, including Taran. Edoc'sil sensed her and was on his way back with Adurthil. Aethelwyne reached him and told him to stay with the hatchling and keep him safe. Reluctantly he agreed.

Taran raced back to camp, grabbing his sword. He saw Aethelwyne dash off towards the arrows, the blanket falling. He grew angry, not wanting her to be seen like that. He ran into the woods, dodging arrows and branches as he followed Aethelwyne.

Anger filled Aethelwyne as she ran towards the unseen attackers. Appearing clad in the flowing gown through the illusion of her magic, her heart beat fast as adrenaline coursed through her veins. The arrows had just missed Taran. She seethed with the venom of her building anger. She had just found him and nearly lost him as fast. The thought of living without him fueled her fury even more. She stopped behind a tree, waiting for Taran to catch up to her. He was not far behind. She scanned the brush for signs of the attackers with keen sight. Scattered throughout the trees she spied movement. She sensed the presence of five men. 'Doc. Look well. There may be dragonslayers in the forest. Keep Adurthil safe.' Doc again acknowledged her 'I will. You two be careful.'
She touched Taran's mind showing him what she had seen. 'Taran, I make five of them scattered throughout the trees. Be careful. One archer, four swordsmen. I will wait for you.'

Taran quickly made it to her, pressing his body against the tree. He looked at her, grateful for the illusion. He could have spoken, but voices would no doubt draw the fire of the archer. 'Very well. Do you see the archer? If you can, take care of him. I'll distract the others until you are finished,' he said in her mind.

Aethelwyne acknowledged Taran. Crouching she stealthily tracked the archer. The hunter now became the hunted. The man was just off to her right. Slowly she circled around him coming from behind, her heart raced as she moved silently, closer. Placing her hand around him she covered his mouth as she plunged the sword into his heart. She gently lowered the still form of the man to the ground. She sent to Taran that he had been neutralized and turned to make her way toward the others.

Taran used magic to make sounds away from him, to confuse the attackers. Leaping through the trees, Taran looked down on the men below. 'Why are they after us?' he thought. 'Is it me, or Aethelwyne?' Leaping from a tree, Taran landed atop one man, crippling him, then moved to the next man, sword raised and at the ready.

Aethelwyne made her way in the direction of the other attackers. She knew Taran was more than capable of dispatching the remaining four but still her heart pounded with worry for her love. 'I wish I could see where Taran is and that he is alright!' she thought as she ran. She felt the warmth of his mark upon her chest grow. As she ran, she glanced down to see it lightly glowing upon her chest. A soft, silver-teal light then, as if she were looking through his eyes, she saw what he saw. She saw him cripple the first man and move on the second with sword raised. 'What is this? What is happening?' she thought but pushed it aside as she ran. She would figure it out later, now she needed to get to him.

Taran faced his attacker, but he didn't feel alone. He felt as if Aethelwyne was there beside him, lending him the strength of their love. He moved on the man, confidence building. He moved with unnatural speed, slashing the man's forearm, twisting his body and sword, and stabbing the man with his back turned to him. Pulling the sword out, he spun it in his hand, bringing it back into its normal position. He squatted, looking around for the other two swordsmen.

Aethelwyne watched through Taran's eyes then noticed the other two men moving to opposite sides of Taran, attempting to trap him in the middle. She cried out in her mind, 'No Taran!'. Her minds eye flashed the position of the two men and she ran to intercept.
