The day was already setting when Ian was almost done cleaning the hatchery. One of his duties as a student in New Doru Arabea was to clean the hatchery of the dragons and to make sure no random dragon eggs were misplaced.
Ian let out a sigh of relief when he finished cleaning. His back was sore from being bent over, scrubbing the floors or moving the nests that were made from previous dragons that had already delivered their clutches. The young man stood, stretching himself when he felt a crack in his back. "Ah." He let out a satisfied sigh. That felt good. He rotated his arms and began to clean up the tools he had used.
Once done, Ian was about to leave when he turned around, gazing at the dragon eggs that were placed respectfully in the hatchery vault. Cuaroc guarded the vault and Ian always had shivers whenever he gazed over; the artificial soldier always creeped him out. Ian carefully walked over, unnerved by Curaroc's gaze, as he felt drawn to gaze into the vault, where hundreds of dragon eggs rested.
"Can I look at them?" Ian asked Cuaroc. The dragon headed man look at him for a moment before stepping aside. Ian's heart leapt. Cuaroc never moved before when he had asked countless times before. What was different now? Ian didn't have long to ponder when his eyes were drawn to the eggs again, or to a specfic one that had caught his gaze.
A medium sized white dragon egg glittered in the corner of the room, as if isolating itself from the others. Curious, Ian walked into the vault, pulled by unnatural forces to this particular egg. It seemed time had stilled for Ian as his hand finaly was able to touch the smooth surface of the egg. The egg felt warm under his fingers and it amazed Ian that a dragon could be inside. How the boy longed for a companion like his father, mother, and sister. He felt the egg jolt and quickly withdrew. Did that just happen? Ian's heart raced. Curious, he placed his hand back onto the egg. Another jolt! What did that mean?
"It seems, that egg likes you." Roland's voice echoed into the lavish hall.
It was Ian's turn to jolt. The student turned to face his teacher. "Master Roland! I'm sorry, I just..." He fumbled in his excuse.
"It's all right. If Cuaroc let you pass, then it must be for a good reason." Roland's eyes twinkled knowingly. "Perhaps you should go now, hmm? Your sister has been looking for you." Roland informed Ian.
"Oh, okay." Ian glanced back at the white egg before turning to leave.
"Take it." Roland gently told Ian, who in turn looked at the elf with apprehension. "You felt it move, did you not?" The elf asked, slightly amused. Ian nodded. "Maybe there is a reason. Why don't you hold onto it for a few days." Roland winked at the boy before leaving him to his own thoughts.
Once Roland left, Ian motioned toward the egg, hope filling him. Could it be? Was the egg meant for him? He hestiantly took the egg in his arms, cradling it like a child. Was his dream about to come true? Hurrying, Ian left the hatchery with the egg, eager to show his sister, and eager to see if it would hatch for him.
"Eva! Eva!" Ian ran across the grounds, searching for his sister, his chores completed and forgotten as he raced to find his twin.

OOC: This kinda reminds of how Viel hatched for Vana. She had been cleaning the egg room too! lol
Eva was chatting with an elven boy from her class with master Tismri. He was tall with angular features, and incredibly silky black hair. She found herself smiling and laughing at anything that sounded like a joke. The elf seemed to enjoy her laughter, and began making more jokes. Some of them she didn't understand, though somehow Eos did. Apparently Eva didn't understand Elven humor. She was distracted then by someone shouting her name. Frowning, she looked around and spotted Ian. Ian! At first she was annoyed. Couldn't he see that she was in the middle of something important right now! But then she saw the white twinkle of an egg in his arms, and she nearly completely forgot about the elven boy. "Excuse me!" she said, giving the elf a bow. She then turned and ran towards Ian, grinning from ear to ear. Had he finally impressed an egg.
"Ian! Is that... an egg... your egg!?" The ground trembled slightly as Eos trotted after Eva, stopping with fanned wings next to the pair.

OOC: Hahaha Eva is flirting! hahaha Oh, and yeah! I forgot Viel hatched that way! Well, that's a fun coincidence. =)
Ian found Eva speaking with an elf. Usually, he would have found his interruption quite humorous, especially having noticed the elven boy's annoyance at his appearance. But it was all pushed aside by the weight in his arms. "Yes! I was cleaning in the hatchery when Cuadoc let me look at the eggs! It moved! It moved when I touched it!!! Master Roland says I should hold onto it! Look, its so amazing!" Ian rambled on with excitement (a rare sight to see for the calm and collected boy) as he revealed the white egg to her and Eos. He was so close to becoming a rider. "Oh, I hope it hatches for me! Do you think it would?" Ian asked, a hopeful look in his eyes.

Eva couldn't help but grin widely as Ian recounted his short tale. He was clearly excited, and with every right. In fact, this was the most excited she thought she'd ever seen him. "I think that it shall, Ian. Why else would the egg have responded to your touch. And Cuadoc... Well, if he let you in to see the eggs, it must have been for a purpose. Do not be discouraged if it doesn't hatch right away. Sometimes hatchlings take a while getting out of their eggs. I bet his egg is from before the fall... He, or she, might be very used to living in its egg." Eos nodded, agreeing. She had been bred from wild dragons, and so had not had to remain in her shell for long. Every once in a while, the wild dragons left eggs to be fated as bonds for rider's.

Ian beamed with joy. A dragon egg might hatch for him! He really hoped it did. He was grateful for his sister and Eos support. "This is so great! I've always wanted a dragon, Eva. I really hope it finds me worthy. I've been working so hard." Ian held the egg tighter. "Are there any tips you can give me to keep it warm or make it comfortable?" He asked them as he began to walk to their quarters. His smile never disappeared. He had never felt so happy before. "Should I tell Mother and Father? " he asked Eva. "But I don't want to get there hopes up though..."

Ian had many a question, and Eva was ever more happy for him. She hoped that the egg hadn't given him false hope. Eggs usually didn't make mistakes. Surely this one hadn't. "keep it near you at night. And during he day as well. That will keep it warm, as well as give the unhatched dragon a chance to sense you better". Eva suggested. Eos nodded in agreement. "As for telling mother and father... Why not? They're always happy to hear from us no matte what the news is. And Ian, I don't think they would ever be disappointed in you. Dragon or no dragon". Eva herself dearly hoped the egg woud hatch. She dreamed of being able to fly through the skies wih him, beside her on his own dragon. Of traveling across Alagaesia together. It would be such fun.

Ian listened intently to his sister's council, soaking everything in. He nodded aimably, agreeing to her words. He gave her a soft, sincere small at the mention of their parents attitude toward him. "Thank you, Eva. That means a lot to me." He had always wondered if his parents would be proud of him if he never managed to impress a dragon. He knew his Mother worried; he had overheard her concerns right before he came to Bromsland. It wasn't that he believed that she would love him less, no, his Mother and Father loved them very much, but he was just worried that he would be left behind in this family...he didn't want to be the only one to fade away when they continued on. He didn't want to be alone.
He continued to walk with his egg, holding it to his chest to keep it warm. The rare smile donning his face as he went. This would be one of his special memories, right after the one when his Father gave him his two short swords, or maybe right after the one when his Mother took him to ride Gladia for the first time. That was an exhilirating experience. One he still remembered, even at his young age then. In the midst of his walking, he felt the egg move again. And again. "EVA! Eva! It's moving more!!! What do I do!?" He looked at her for help and then glancing around for a place to put it if it was hatching right now. The white egg began to move more and more and Ian swore he could have heard a squeak!

"Put it down! Put it down!" Eva said hastily, pointing to the ground. It didn't matter where. "It'll be safer to hatch on the ground than in your arms, I think." She added. It wouldn't do if as soon as the dragon hatched it fell out of his hands and onto the hard ground. She could hear some sort of scratching from within the egg, even, she thought, the muffled cry of a hatchling. Eos fluttered anxiously behind them, her wings held half aloft, neck craned up and over the heads of Eva and Ian. Hatch little one! Hatch! she said, and Eva wondered if her bond was actually communicating with the egg. "We must wait and see what happens now..." she said, standing back a bit from the egg. She bit her lip, anxious to see what the egg would do.

Ian did has he was instructed and gingerly placed the egg down as it began to move more. Its shuffling was starting to become louder and louder. "It's hatching!" Ian exclaimed, excitement and anxiety coursing through him. The white egg emitted another squeak and soon, a nose popped out from the top of the egg. Ian was so excited at this point. He bent himself onto the ground, watching the dragon break free, seemingly encouraged by its kin's words.
The hatching of the egg or, more precisely, the noise that was emmiting from the egg, was causing several curious students to come over to see, soon enough, a small circle began to form around the trio as they watched a white hatchling pop out of its egg; shards erupting when it burst forth.
"Eva! It's a dragon!!" Ian exclaimed stupidly out of happiness. It really happened! A dragon hatched for him! He held out right hand tentatively to touch it. The white dragon tilted his head curiously at the crowd around him, as if searching for something. It spotted the yellow dragon with ease and seemed to stumbled toward it, but stopped when its tongue flicked outward, tasting something. Its white eyes turned to pierce at Ian. It made a chirping noise and then seemed to prance over to Ian's open hand.
Usually, Ian hated crowds, and especially the idea that they would be witnessing what would happen next. This was a personal matter wasn't it? The thought left him when he heard the hatchling chirp and charge at him. Soon enough, the dragon struck its nose into Ian's hand, seemingly eager to complete the bonding process. Ian felt a cold sensation flow into his hand and then traveling throughout his body. At first, he didn't think the bonding process was that bad until a burning, searing sensation followed suite. Ian ground his teeth as the pain electrified his whole body. The next thing the young boy remembered of that day, was lying on his back and staring into the piercing white eyes of his own dragon.

Eva watched the hatching with he breath held. Each chip that fell away from the egg made her heart skip a beat. At last, a beautiful white dragon emerged from the egg shards. It's wet wings stuck to its sides, it's currently soft scales wrinkled from its time in the egg. Her heart seemed to stop completely when the hatchling walked away from Ian and towards Eos. Had it hatched for someone else in the crowd? A moment later the little dragon turned back to Ian, and Eva let her breath out. At last! Ian had impressed a dragon! She waited for the bond to be completed, and then went to help her brother. She remembered clearly the pain of the first touch. Kneeling down beside Ian, she laid a hand on his shoulder. "Ok, brother?" she asked, grinning down at him. ***
Maude watched the hatching from the back of the crowd. For a while, she actually felt happy for Ian. He deserved a dragon. He had proved that in the test. But hadn't she proven herself too? A sudden burning jealously filled her heart. Why hadn't she impressed a dragon yet! She felt like crying and yelling at the same time. Instead, she kept a cool face. She walked away from the crowd, which had moved in closer to congratulate Ian on his bonding.

Ian continued to gaze at the hatchling as it laid on his chest. He couldn't help the grin that was on his face. "Thank you...thank you for hatching for me." He whispered to it as the crowd began to congratulate him. He heard Eva's voice then. Glancing up, Ian nodded. "Never been better, sister." His bright smile shot up at her and then back at the dragon. The dragon chirped again and seemed to claw at his clothes, as if searching for something. Its tiny teeth bit into his tunic, ruffling it as a dog would with a stick. "Hey! Cut that out." Ian laughed. It continued to do that until it made its desire known. A low grumbling noise erupted from the hatchling's stomach. "Haha! I think its hungry!" Ian chuckled as he made to sit up more, one hand steadying the dragon in his lap.
His eyes darted out toward the crowd as they continued to give him their congratulations. His green eyes noticed a fleeing figure. He would recognize that person anywhere. His heart sank a bit. Maude had wanted a dragon too. He really hoped that she got a dragon. He would hate to have her dislike him more than she seemingly did. Maybe...maybe he could go and talk to her later? Show her his dragon? That wouldn't seem like he was showing off would it? He just wanted her to notice him... He watched as she disappeared from his line of sight, but snapped his eyes away before his sister would get suspicious of his staring. He turned his attention back to the dragon, noting its color. It was ironic really...that he would get a dragon whose scales matched the color that become his favorite since he met Maude...He shook off his thoughts quickly, not wanting to think about such things right now, especially with his sister around. "I think we should get it something to eat." He looked at Eva. "I've got some jerky in our room. I rather go there...to you know..." He glanced around at the crowd, his self consciousness kicking in. He really didn't like crowds.

Eva was surprised that Ian hadn't noticed the looming crowd sooner. But at last his shyness returned, and Eva nodded to him understandingly. "Alright, everyone!" she said to the crowd. "If you'll excuse us, we've got some business to take care of!" The crowd lingered for a moment, then dispersed. Eva helped Ian to his feet and then walked off with him towards his room. Eos was sticking close to their heels, curious about the little hatchling. A thin line of smoke drifted from her nostrils. Eva made a note to get some more fireweed for her dragon. Eos had had a moment of indigestion not too long ago, and Evan hadn't had any fireweed then and she regretted how uncomfortable Eos had been. "I wonder what its gender is." she said aloud, peering down at the white dragon.
OOC: I find Ian's crush super adorable! lol

OOC: Ian held his dragon close to his chest as they made their way to his room. Given the circumstances, Ian would be elated at the fact that he was now a Rider, but having spotted Maude's departure, Ian felt a bit deflated. His dragon chirped up at him, having peeked out of the arms that secured him. The hatchling flicked its tongue out constantly, trying to catch the many scents around him. He glanced up at Eos' towering figure and chirped at her playfully. Ian rubbed the top of his dragon's head, amused by it. "I don't care if its male or female; it chose me!" Ian whispered happily as the dragon gazed up at Eva, tilting its head in curiousity. Ian led Eva inside his room, grabbed the jerky that he had stacked in a pack on his desk before coming outside so that they could be with Eos. Sitting on the steps to his housing quarters, Ian began to feed the ravoneous hatchling. The youngling snapped his teeth down onto the jerky, moving free of Ian's grasp to latch its talons into the dried meat. After feeding it all of his jerky (which was a considerable amount), the hatchling laid napping in Ian's lap. "Wow. Did Eos eat that much when she hatched?" Ian asked Eva, amused and curious about his dragon. He stared down at the dragon, still awed that it had hatched for him. He finally got one! All his hard work in Bromsland paid off. His mind drifted to Maude, wondering where she had gone off to and if it was a good idea to show her his dragon, given her circumstances. However, despite the possibility of having her ignore him like she sometimes did, Ian really didn't know how to speak to the girl that seemed to not know he existed. Well, Eva didn't count; she was family. And Ian knew that he wasn't gifted in the speaking department. His fight with Teza Mae showed him that. Since then, he had tried to become more sociable, with Eva and Eos' help of course. He fidgeted with his dragon, stroking it aimlessly, before sucking up his pride and asking his sister for advice. "Um, Eva, I know this is a bit random, but, how...how do you get someone to be your friend?" He asked her, trying to make the question broad so Eva wouldn't find out about his little crush.

The hatchling certainly was ravenous. It made Eva wonder just how long this one had been in its egg. "Eos was certainly a hungry baby, but not quite as famished as this one." she admitted, smirking a bit. She hoped this dragon wouldn't be a lazy beast. There were a few of those around New Doru Arabea. Fat and lazy. The riders were of a similar sort. She was a bit surprised at Ian's next question. "well, you must do an equal part of talking and listening. Nobody likes a person who always talks about himself, nor do they like a person who doesn't say anything at all. You either seem prideful or snobbish. Of course you're. It snobbish, but some people like to misinterpret things. I think if you truly want to make a friend, though, you had to remember to be yourself. That's how you'll make a true friend, I think." she nodded, feeling satisfied with her answer. "Why do you ask?" she added, looking at him curiously. ***
Maude walked until she felt calm. Her thoughts had been running everywhere, leaving her a mess of emotions. Ian had already been chosen by a dragon. She felt as if she had lost some sort if game. After a while, she felt sullen and foolish for acting like a crying baby. She was above jealousy. Wasn't she? Looking about, she now found herself deep in the woods of meditation. She say down where she stood with a huff and out her chin in her hands. Mother and father said they didn't care if she ever hatched a dragon, but Maude cared, more than anything. She wanted to be a strong and respected warrior like her mother. She wanted people to know that her mother hadn't deserved to live in the spine for sixteen years like a coward. Nor her father, just as good a warrior. But she lacked her fathers cool wit and reserve, and she knew it. Veil would understand, she thought dejectedly.

"Be myself?" Ian muttered, contemplating Eva's advice. "I...its a lot harder to do when I'm not around you or Eos." Ian fidgeted when Eva inquired on his reason for asking. "Um, nothing, really, just...wanting to make some friends, is all...no other reason..." He stammered out, his cheeks lightly pink as he thought about Maude. "Um, Eva...what...what if I think that someone doesn't like me..how...how do I...get them to...like, I mean, be friends with me?" He asked her. Oh boy, this was awkward for the young boy. He was trying desperatly to get some ideas on how to approach Maude, but he knew his stammering and nervousness would get Eva to attack him with questions. And she was known to writhe them out of him. He darted his eyes to his dragon, trying to look calm and collected.
