Eva did not miss the faint blush in Ian's cheeks. Was this really about making friends, or was it something else. Eva lifted an eyebrow at her brothers stammering. "Oh, Ian. Who is it?" She asked, leaning forward a bit from her spot next to Eos. The pale yellow dragon looked briefly at Ian, before turning her golden eyes back on the hatchling. "Is it that Surdan girl in Master Trinn's class? Or is it that Ismalian Princess." She threw her head back and laughed at the last girl she mentioned. Tezza Mae and Ian were an impossible match. "Do tell me, Ian. I won't tell anybody else, I promise!"
Yes, Ian, please. Eos added, staring at him again. We shan't tell a soul.

Ian's eyes widened and the blush on his cheeks grew more red. "Whaattt! Nooo oneeee...what makes you think that?" He hestiantly stammered out when Eva began to subtly interrogate him. He shook his head violently when she began to list people. "No! Not them!" He groaned, he just admited that he liked someone and tried to ignore Eva's laughter; he was embarrassed as it was. He focused his eyes on his dragon, who was resting deeply. He glanced up when Eva said she wouldn't tell, but something in her voice made him doubt that. He glanced over at Eos when she promised too. "Maude..." He mumbled into his chest as he stroked his dragon, finally deciding to reveal his crush to the two individuals he cared most about. He kept his eyes down, bashful at his confession. What would they think?

"Maude!?" Eva blurted out, unable to help herself. That girl! Maude was the haughtiest, most self-centered student in Bromsland. Why on earth would Ian chose her! Well, she was rather beautiful, Eva admitted to herself. But she didn't think her brother was vain. For a little while, Eva couldn't think of what to say. "I... Well... Isn't that something." She said at last. Maude did, of course, come from the loins of some pretty powerful people. Could that be why Ian liked her? Because she was Vana's daughter, as well as the Ismalian, Kyler's? They were two of the most fierce warriors in the city. "I think that to get Maude to like you, Ian, you're going to have quite a challenge. I say that only because it seems like she doesn't really like anybody."
Perhaps woe her with flowers. Eos suggested. Isn't that one of your silly human customs? Eva smiled. "It is." she agreed.

Ian's face paled as Eva outburst. It sounded like she didn't approve. "Maude isn't so bad..." Ian muttered, recalling the exam that they had taken together. She had helped him, and perhaps even saved him from death. Not only that, she was really pretty...and was an excellent swordsman. She seemed really nice, well, when he spotted her talking to her parents; she had a softer appeal to her then. Ian sighed at Eva's declaration and perspective on Maude. She was right, Maude would be a challenge. "Thats...that's why I was wondering how to get her to like me...or at least talk with me..." Ian explained and then nearly choked on his own saliva when Eos purposed flowers...and wooing! Ian gawked at the yellow dragon. "Wooing? Who said anything about wooing! That...that means marriage! And...and..." He turned red at the thought of marriage. Marriage to Maude. His heart did a pleasant flip. Ian couldn't finish his sentence, clearly musing on the prospect of marriage. He shook his those thoughts away when he felt his dragon stir in his lap; it just shuffled a bit but did not wake. "I...don't think Maude is into flowers, Eos..." Ian sadly whispered. "I don't know what she likes...that's why I was hoping you could help me talk with her...to get to know her better, and hope that she gets to know me." He replied forlornly.

OOC: hahaha, I like Ian's reaction to Eos's suggestion.
Eos blinked at Ian, not really understanding his outburst to her suggestion. I'm sorry... she said, the shuffled her wings awkwardly. She clicked her teeth together for something to do and occupied herself with staring at the hatchling.
Eva tried not to laugh at her dragon, or at Ian. It seemed she was the only one who found it funny. "Well, then, I suppose I shall do my best to help. And yeah, marriage. Let's not think about that yet! We've got our whole lives! And then some..." she added, thinking about her extended life span thanks to the bond she now shared with Eos. "Well, let's see. From what I've seen, Maude enjoys sparring... Maybe if you could really beat her in a spar, she'll respect you. That could lead to something. Perhaps try to be more straightforward with her, too. She seems kinda awkward with conversation. Short and sweet will be best, I think." What do you think, Eos.
Good observations. But I still think flowers would be nice... She persisted.

OOC: I love writing awkward teenagers! lol
"It's okay, Eos..." Ian sighed, feeling very embarrassed and confused at the moment. "I just don't know what I'm doing. I really want her to like me." He inhaled a breath and let it out. Ian fiddled with his dragon's tail for a moment, intaking Eva's advice. "We've sparred before...I liked that, I managed to get to know her a bit when studying her body..." Ian halted in his speech as he realized what he said. He turned red again. "Not like that, not like that!" He rushed out, hoping that Eva didn't think him inappropriate. "I mean, like how Ebrithil Trinn taught us...the Way of Knowing strategy." He streamed out, bright red. He glanced away from them, before continuing his previous thought, "I don't think beating her would be good; every time I tried something, she seems to get angry or frustrated and determined to beat me. That's why I think she doesn't like me....and how straight and short can I be even more? You know me, Eva! I'm not good at talking either." He stroked his dragon. "Maybe I'm just doomed to admiring her from afar." He sighed, dejected at that prospect. "I just want to make her happy..." He muttered, half aware of what he said.

For a short moment, Eva felt slightly embarrassed too at Ian's misunderstood statement. It was enough to know he liked the girl. That's all she wanted to know! "You're not doomed!" She insisted. "So If sparring isn't going to work, and not being straightforward... then perhaps just try to have a true conversation. Ask her questions about herself, her parents. She seems to like her parents right? Maybe if you just show interest in her, then she'll start to get a hint, and, maybe, show some interest in you too?" Eva pursed her lips as she thought. Men always said that girls were complicated, and Eva always refused to believe it. But for Maude, the case might be true. "I think this might be one of those situations where you just have to take a breath and jump. You've gotta try or you'll never know what may have been. Use your new bond as a starter. She's obviously here to become a dragon rider. Being able to see a hatchling might bring down her guards."

Despite Eva's insistance, Ian still felt doomed. He gazed at his sleeping dragon, contemplating Eva's suggestion. He really hoped that this would work. If anything, Ian at least wanted to be Maude's friend. He wasn't sure how he was going to confess that he liked her and didn't believe he would take rejection from her very well. He never felt this way about anyone before. All those girls back at Celesti were always trying to talk to him, but he never felt interested in them, not like he did with Maude. There was something...fascinating about her. He couldn't pinpoint it. Yes, she was really really pretty, which caught him off guard the first time he saw her, but besides that, there was something that attracted him. He wanted to get to know her. He wanted to see her happy! Oh boy, he wondered if he sounded like a pathetic fool. He glanced up at Eva and Eos. Well, fool or no fool, he rather get to know her than sit around and wonder about it. "O--okay. I'll try to talk to her." He agreed with Eva's idea to start the conversation with his new dragon. "I just hope I won't freeze up. Eva...Eos, you two won't tell anyone will you? I don't want to start any rumors or anything.." He stood up from his spot, the hatchling blinking awake from the movement. "Should I go and speak with her now?" He asked his sister. She was always so good with helping him. It was a wonder why none of the boys here didn't line up to declare their liking to her. At that thought, his mind drifted back to the elven boy she was speaking with. "So," Ian smiled, "who was that elf you were talking to?" His eyes were devious and he momentarily forgot his own love issues.

"You'll do fine." Eva reassured him. "And if you do freeze up, then... talk about the weather." She shrugged. It was better than nothing. At the mention of the elf boy, Eva smirked. "He's just a crush. I don't think it's anything like what you feel for Maude. Elf guys are just... fun." she said, and her smile turned somewhat devious. "But enough about that. You should go find Maude now! And I'll go find that elf. And we'll rendezvous tonight!" She got up and hopped up to Eos's back. "Oh, and yes, Eos and I swear to not tell anyone! See you later, brother!" And without another word, Eos jumped into the sky and carried Eva away. Eva felt bad for abandoning her brother so hastily, but otherwise she felt he would have just continued to stall. The best way to get over something was to face it head on.

"Bye..." Ian stared off at the yellow dragon as she flew off. He pondered on Eva's words. "How are elves...fun?" He furrowed his brow. What was his sister doing with these boys? He made a mental note to watch her. How did she do it so easily? She was always good with talking to other people. Always the outgoing one, while he, preferred to keep to himself or to stay with his friends. It was days like these that he wished Zee was here. He would know what to say or do.
Shaking his thoughts away from his friends, Ian focused on the girl that he wished to become friends with. Gathering his courage, Ian went out to search for Maude, his dragon glancing in every direction as it clung to his Rider. --- After some time, Ian finally found Maude. She was in the Woods of Meditation. He felt hesitant, at first, seeing her sitting by herself. He didn't want to intrude if she was preoccupied or engaged with something else. However, he soon had no choice when his dragon escaped from his arms and began to chase a squirrel...a squirrel that was running passed Maude.
"Hey! Come back!" Ian exclaimed after his dragon. The white hatchling, not understanding the words of his Rider, continued in his excited chase. In his chase, the newborn, tripped over a protruding tree root and tumbled in front of Maude. It blinked and shook its body, a bit surprised at the fall. Its eyes then focused on Maude. It blinked again, flicking its tongue out. It then growled playfully at the girl. "Sorry, Maude. He got away from me." Ian apologized as he finally caught up to the dragon. He stared at her for a moment, trying to figure out how to start a conversation with her. "Um, weather nice today we have." Ian quickly reverted to Eva's suggestion, but then realized his nervous mistake. "Um, I mean, nice weather today." He mentally slapped himself. He was doomed!

Maude's silent musings were interrupted by a harried chattering. Frowning, she had to only wonder briefly what was wrong with the squirrel. The furry rodent dashed past her, and behind it, a shimmering white hatchling. Maude was surprised at this sight, until she heard Ian behind her. So he had come to brag, had he? She didn't take her eyes away from the baby dragon. Even in its youth it was noble and beautiful. "I'm sure he did." She said dryly. "Hatchlings will be hatchlings." She held out her hand to the dragon as Ian went on. "The weather seems to always be nice here." she replied. "Perhaps the elders put wards around the city." That seemed like a lot of work, but with about four ancients around, it wouldn't be an impossible task. "What brings you to these woods, Ian? You're lucky I wasn't actually meditating." She finally turned and looked at him. Her expression was only slightly stern. Her anger at him had already begun to fade, though it had not vanished entirely. "I suppose congratulations are in order. You're blessed indeed to have impressed a dragon." Her voice sounded a little sad at the end, and she turned her eyes back to the hatchling.

The little hatchling sniffed Maude's hand and after a moment, decided to prance toward her. He tilted his head, curious. He crooned and stretched his head out so that it touched her fingertips.
"Um," Ian fidgeted from one foot to the other, feeling some annoyance from Maude. That wasn't helping his nerves. He could feel the butterflies in his stomach as he gazed at her. He frowned at her last words; they sounded sad. "Thank you, Maude. But really, I feel like you should have gotten a dragon first...I mean," He gathered his courage to act like he would if he was speaking with Eva. "You're more skilled than I am and proved yourself when we were taking the exam." He stratched his arm. "I was injured most of the time and you had to drag me around...but, what I'm saying is, that you're far more worthy than I am." He glanced at the dragon. "If any one should have impressed a dragon, it's you." He told her truthfully. He didn't feel regret for having the dragon pick him, but he felt like Maude should have gotten one too. He looked at her sincerely. "Why don't you go visit the hatchary? I'm sure the one you're meant for is in there." Ian felt a bit more at ease as he spoke with Maude; Eva's advice had given him courage and collectiveness. He only hoped that he could impress someone else today.

Maude glanced sharply at Ian, surprised at what he said. Was he actually calling her worthy? It was what she had come here to prove. But to actually hear it made her feel strange. "I am nothing compared to what my mother was." she said, turning the conversation away from herself. She stroked the hatchling's head, marveling at the softness of its scales. Viel and Typhon's scales were always smooth and hard, but never soft. Except for very certain areas on their stomachs. "My mother was- is - a very powerful warrior. What I am able to accomplish is because of the training I've received from her, and my father." She glanced again at Ian. It seemed that he wasn't teasing her. His face was open and honest. "But I thank you, for what you said. I am happy to hear it." Maude debated for a minute, the added, "But you weren't a burden during the exam. You proved yourself as much as I did." That was all Maude was able to say about it, and she fell silent once more.

A small twinge of a smile appeared on Ian's face when Maude thanked him. His heart hammered against his chest, happy to have her say something nice to him. "Thanks, Maude. That means a lot to me." He motioned to sit across from her, on a large boulder while his dragon was amusing Maude by allowing her to pet him thoroughly. The dragon hummed, delighted at the attention.
Ian glanced down at his hands, feeling the silence settle upon them. "I think it likes you." Ian commented about his dragon as he watched them interact. Look at that! Even his dragon received more attention from Maude than he! He shouldn't feel jealous...he shouldn't feel jealous. Ian glanced away, finding failure in not being jealous of his own dragon. His fingers fiddled with one another. "You're wrong you know," Ian began, recalling Maude's earlier words, "you were able to accomplish a lot on your own merit. Your parents may have trained you, but it takes a lot more than that to do the things you've done in the exam." He turned back to look at her. "You're special in your own right, Maude. I hope you know that." He blushed slightly at his honest words, realizing the small double meaning in them.

Was Ian being honest, or just trying to get on her good side? Maude continued to stroke the hatchling's head as she fixed a level gaze on the boy in front of her. Not really a boy though, nor a man. Just on the cusp of manhood. And his face. An honest face. She felt suddenly frustrated. The varden's brats were supposed to be self-centered snobs! It would have made it easier for her to hate them. To hate him. And here she was feeling far from any sort of hate. No, she was just frustrated. "Thank you Ian. Sincerely." They fell silent then, and Maude felt as if she didn't want to stop talking to Ian. Though she started to hate him for a completely different reason. Being too nice.
"I feel like walking." She said, and stood quickly to her feet. "How would you feel about going to see my dragon-mother and her clutch?" By which she meant Viel. She had always called Viel dragon-mother, and Typhon her dragon-father. It didn't seem at all strange to her, and she thought it wouldn't sound strange to anyone else.
