Ian nodded in agreement. "As am I. I would hate to think what I would have missed if I was born some other time." He stole a glance at Maude and then glued his eyes on his dragon. "We're really lucky that the dragons have come back. I just hope that I can accomplish what I dream of with my bond, so that when history speaks of us, it will be of great worth and bring understanding to people." His eyes softened as he gazed at the white dragon. "I'm really grateful that it hatched for me; I'm that much closer to keeping my promise." He told Maude absentmindly, feeling far more comfortable than he had ever felt with her; he hadn't even realized that he spoke of his dream - only Eva really knew about that. "Maude, what are your dreams?" He asked her.

Maude watched Ian from the corner of her eye as he spoke of his dream, and a promise. She assumed that meant the promise to protect his family, but what did he mean about his dream to make people understand? She wanted to ask, but felt it better not to pry. When he asked about her dreams, Maude had to think on the question. Her first dream had been to make the varden riders to regret banishing her mother and father to the spine. She wanted to show the ex-varden members that her parents were honorable, not some sort of criminals. But she hardly felt like sharing that with Ian. Besides, the grudge she had felt for so long seemed suddenly not so important. "I suppose it would be to be a dragon rider, like my mother. I want the world to know me. As a dragon rider, and as a warrior."

Ian smiled. "That's a great dream, Maude; to be recognized and acknowledged! I know you can do that and even become more known than your Mother." He told her as the hatchling bounded back to them. It yawned and began to claw at Ian's leg. Ian chuckled and picked up the hatchling. "Hey Maude, Eva and I are going to have dinner soon, you...you want to join us?" Ian asked, his eyes and voice hopeful for her to say yes.

"I usually eat my evening meal with my parents." Maude began, hesitant to accept Ians invite. It was one thing for her to be speaking to Ian, but it would be difficult for her to speak also with his twin. Of course, being his twin, Eva probably had the same personality. Yet that wasn't true. From what Maude had seen of the girl, Eva was outgoing and confident, something opposite of Ian. Eva was the type of Varden brat that Maude loathed. The kind that flaunted their good life and fortune. She looked over at Ian, about to tell him no, but faltered when she noticed the look in his eyes. He was lonely, she realized, no matter having a twin or a cousin in New Doru Arabea. He was lonely like her, she realized. "Why not." she said at last, giving an indifferent shrug.

Ian's hopeful looked dimmed when Maude stated that she ate with her parents. He was going to utter some lame assurance that it was okay, but stopped when he made eye contact with Maude; hopeful look still intact. He couldn't help the smile that formed on his lips when she agreed. "Great!" He grinned sheephisly, realizing that he might have sounded a bit too excited there. "It'll be nice to have your company." He admitted. He stood right after, sleepy hatchling in arm, and gestured for them to go. "You'll like Eva. Though, I'll warn you, she's a bit eccentric and likes to talk...a lot." He chuckled nervously, hoping that information wouldn't make Maude decline. "But, she she means well and is really fun once you get to know her." He explained as he glanced around them again, settling his eyes on Viel and Typhon. He had been rather grossed out with Viel eating right beside them, but promptly turned away to shake off the feeling. He had seen Stigandr eat, after all, and that dragon somtimes chewed with his mouth open. "Thanks for showing me this, Maude. Its really a special place." He expressed to her as he lingered on the image of the dragons eggs.

Maude doubted she would much enjoy Eva's company. Especially if the woman talked too much. "If you say so." she said to Ian, shrugging again. "You're welcome. It's kind of nice, being able to show someone this." she admitted, gesturing around the cavern. Viel was again resting her head on the floor, her eyes almost completely closed. Maude stood and hugged the red dragons snout, which the dragon had already cleaned of blood and gore. Viel was quite meticulous about grooming. She was rather vain, really. Sleep well, huntress. she said, and Viel made a grunt of acknowledgement. Maude then went over to Typhon and attempt to hug his leg. Her arms didn't even begin to encircle the muscular appendage. I'll see you around, Typhon. Let father know where I am? She then turned back to Ian. "Lead the way then, Einarson."

Ian found himself blushing (again!) as Maude admitted that she enjoyed sharing this with someone. His heart hammered against his chest as he thought about many more opportunites to be with her. He waited patiently as Maude said her goodbye's to her dragon family. He smiled when Typhon leaned his mighty head down to nuzzle her. He was even privledged to hear his thoughts to her. Be safe until then, Maude. He chuckled then, He already knows, as I suspect your Mother does too. Your father says don't stay out too late. You have an exam in the morning. Ian heard the dragon remind her before letting her go with him.
Ian nodded with a smile and left the cave and its wonderous beauty behind. He took the trail back down, hatchling chirping as he went, until he found the familiar path that led to the eating area. He and his sister would gather here every evening, sometimes Glory and Seth joined them, but usually it was just him and his sister...and some of her friends. Ian was quite happy that Maude decided to join him. Maybe she did like him as a friend! Maybe, one day, she would like him?
As he pondered about his crush, his eyes spotted the usual bench, with the usual food having been placed by the cooks; typical vegetables, bread, and some other food that did not consist of meat, except that to give to hatchlings.
"Eva and Eos usually meet me there." He pointed to their designated table, leading Maude along.

"Yes, but you beat us there this time." Eva said, coming up behind the two, with Eos trailing along behind her. She had watched Ian walk towards the bench with astonishment. She had not expected him to have successfully impressed Maude, let alone bring her to dinner! Eva felt someone guilty for being so surprised. "Hello, Maude. How are you today?" She asked the white-haired girl. Maude looked at her with unreadable grey eyes.
"I am hungry." Was her strange reply, and Eva smiled.
"Yes, well, me too! Come on then!" And she led the way to the bench. She sat down on one side, and Maude sat opposite her. "So, what did you two do today?" Maude remained silent, apparently leaving it up to Ian to respond. Eva had a sinking suspension that the girl secretly hated her.

At the sound of Eva's voice, Ian turned, a grin on his face. "Hey Eva! Hello Eos!" His eyes were bright due to a certain girl standing beside him. "Yeah, I'm hungry too!" Ian replied too, finding nothing odd about Maude's reply. He sat beside Maude and across from his sister. "Oh, Maude invited me to see Viel's clutch! The eggs are so beautiful, right Maude?" Ian smiled at Maude, having not registered her silence or her stares toward his sister; his attention was on piling food onto a plate and passing it to Maude. He then made a plate for his sister and gave it to her. He finally made one for himself. His dragon glided out of Ian's arms and onto the table. It sat down, glancing over to Eos with a curious expression before diving into some meat that was laid out in front of him. "Hey! manners!" Ian reprimanded his dragon; the dragon seemed to roll its eyes at Ian, but plopped down on his rear before diving in again. He glanced back at Eva, continuing his explanation, feeling very comfortable with Eva and Maude. "We mostly spent our day there." Ian added before eating. "How was your day, Eva?" He asked.

Maude was grateful for Ian. She felt highly uncomfortable seated across from Eva, with the yellow dragon staring at her. It was as if Ian's twin was looking right through her. Could she sense the hate Maude felt? She nodded when Ian mentioned the eggs, and graciously accepted her plate of food. The lack of meat was still something she was trying to get use to. Berries and bread just didn't seem to do much for her. Busying herself with the food, Maude ate while Eva talked about her day.
"Well, after we got done talking, Eos and I flew around for a bit. We practiced some spirals and dives, barrel rolls, and what not. Afterwards, I practiced moving more fluidly with my sword. Pretty much just did some more training." she looked at Maude, trying to draw Vanasdaughter out of her shell. "Perhaps we should spar sometime, Maude? I've seen you on the practice field. You'd be hard to beat."
Maude glanced up briefly at Eva, wondering if the girls compliments were sincere or not. "I'm always ready for a good fight." she said in agreement. "I like to see how tough the Varden children are." she said absentmindedly, biting into a piece of bread.
"What do you mean by that? Varden children?" Eva asked, and Maude looked up sharply, realizing her mistake.
"Nothing." She said quickly.
"Oh really? It didn't sound like nothing." Eva persisted, and Maude grew defensive. She looked at Eva again. The twin was staring intently at her, a blueberry nearly squished in her fingers.
"I think I should go." Maude said, standing. "Thank you, Ian, for inviting me to dinner. I'll see you around." Taking her plate with her, Maude turned and quickly left the bench, feeling angry and hurt at the same time.

Ian glanced between his sister and Maude, feeling tension building as they ate. He was happy that Eva was trying to talk to Maude; it was really important for him that she liked her too. He paused in his eating when he felt the tension get higher. He too, caught Maude's words, but thought little of it when Eva seemed to persist on her elaborating upon it. "She probably didn't mean anything by it." Ian hastened out right before Maude spontaneously stood up. "What? You're leaving?" He glanced at Maude with confusion and then back at his sister. "Wait, Maude!" He watched her leave before getting up himself to chase after her. His dragon noticed and bounded right after him. "Eva? Why'd you have to push her like that?" He frowned at his sister, his voice more sad than angry. "I'll be back." He rushed out after Maude, forgetting his food.
"Maude! Maude, wait!" Ian ran to catch up with her, his hatching having found itself on his Rider's head. It seemed like a comfortable place to be; minus when his Rider would run. "Hey, what's wrong?" He asked her. "I'm sorry about Eva, she was just trying to make conversation..." Ian apologized.

Why did Ian have to come after her!? Couldn't he see that she wanted to be alone. "Your sister doesn't like me." She said in response, her voice slightly hostile. "And I don't blame her. Our parents used to be enemies, remember? She knows that, and I especially. You Varden kids had it so easy!" she said, revealing her feelings to him despite wishing to hide them. "Running around with your families, living richly and comfortably. Your parents were all glorified!" Maude didn't stop walking. She was planning on returning to Viel and Typhon. "I had to live in the Spine my whole life, and my parents were considered dead by the whole world. You were all probably relieved to have my mother and father out of your lives. Grateful that they were dead! But they were not criminals! They shouldn't have been forced to live like bandits and hermits! And now we're here, and they are bowing and groveling to your parents and all the other old varden riders! It's not fair!" Maude didn't realize how petulant and whiny she sounded. Once she started her rant, she couldn't seem to stop. Halting in her path, she turned on Ian and jabbed a finger into his chest. "Do not follow me, Ian. I am an outcast, and outcasts do not become friends with the nobility. And ...I prefer it that way!" Turning back around, she broke into a run and dashed away.

Ian stood frozen in his spot as he watched Maude ran away. A dejected frown was on his face as he watched her go. He had debated on following still, to run after her, but he didn't know what to say and she seemed to make it perfectly clear that she didn't want to be his friend. He glanced to the ground, trying to figure out Maude's words and anger. Did she really think that of him? That he thought her an outcast? He really knew nothing about her parents, only that they were once Empire Riders for Galbatorix. But his father assured him that they weren't as bad as every one thought they were. He heard his hatchling coo softly. He too was shocked by the female's words and just stared wide eyed as she dashed away.
Ian touched the spot that Maude had jabbed, feeling very confused at Maude's hate toward him. He thought they were becoming friends. Sadden, Ian took one more glance at the direction that Maude had run off before turning around and heading back to Eva and Eos. The young man was silent upon his return to his sister. He sat down across from her, no longer hungry as he contemplated Maude's words. He stared, uninterested, at his plate. The hatchling, too seemed to lose its appetite. The two sat there, wondering how to get Maude to speak with them again, and to figure out if her accusations were true. Who would be the best to talk to?
*** OOC: Daddy to the rescue! lol
Kyler sat at his desk in their home, grading homework assignments. He was pleased that Maude seemed to have found herself a friend, as he was worried for her in that aspect. Typhon had recited and shown him images of Maude bringing Ian to see them. It was a wonderful sight to see Maude make friends. The former empire Rider stood up from his seat, tired of grading papers and heading out to their backyard for his favorite stress release.
Since their arrival, Kyler had done his best to make Vana and Maude feel at home here. He had designed their backyard to resemble that of the Spine, in the sense of lush trees and rocks lined aesthetically, with a stream flowing all around the yard that led to a pond. Inside the pond, Kyler had placed firefish inside for Vana, knowing that it meant something to her as it did him. This, is where Kyler went for refuge, as he had built a bench beside the pond so that his family could enjoy it. He sat down onto the bench, enjoying the peacefulness here.

Eva had remained seated while Ian chased after Maude. She was too worried about him to touch her food. When he returned, she felt her heart sink at his crestfallen expression. "Ian..." she began, feeling responsible. "I'm sorry. I.. I'm sorry." There was nothing else really to say. He wouldn't want to hear why she had acted rather brashly with Maude. She was protective, and it had seemed that Maude had said something against her and Ian when she had mentioned the Varden. "Are you ok?" She asked. ***
By the time she had reached the living quarters of the masters, Maude felt thoroughly upset. She had slowed to a dejected walk, until she stood outside her parents home. She had never considered herself overly emotional before, but Bromsland seemed to be changing that. Feeling on the verge of tears, she went inside and looked out the back window. Her father was seated outside by the fire fish pond. Her first thought was to run away, so that he wouldn't see her so upset. But nothing seemed better right now than to go to him and sit with by the pond. Getting a grasp on herself, Maude walked outside and silently sat beside him. She stared at the pond and at the fish without saying anything.

Ian shook his head in reply to Eva's question. No. He wasn't okay. The girl of his dreams somehow hates his guts and blames his parents for something he didn't quite understand. He was utterly confused. They were getting along not just an hour ago. How'd this change? Why'd she accept his dinner invitation if she hated him? His eye brows furrowed, showing his confusion to his sister. "Eva...its okay...I don't blame you." Ian replied truthfully. Normally, he would be giving her a good piece of his mind for chasing away a friend, but, all he could think about was Maude's pain and anger. "I...I need to talk to someone...someone who might know." He told her cryptically. He immediately thought of his Mother. She always listened and seemed to know everything. "I need to talk to Mom." He informed his sister and got up to go back to their living quarters, where a scrying mirror was located.
*** Kyler immediately sensed the presence of his daughter enter their house. He smiled, wondering how her day went. He wanted to go and greet her, but she was a free spirit like her Mother; if she wanted to, she would come to him to share her day. It seemed she did want to discuss her day, since he spotted her coming out to the pond. His tender smile faltered briefly. She looked upset; on the verge of tears even. He frowned. What happened and who did he have to kill? He wondered briefly; no one made his daughter cross! She sat down next him. Kyler easily wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pressing her toward his side. Maude wasn't one to divulge her emotions and thoughts if one was to ask. It was always her terms or you would get nothing. Patiently, he waited for her to speak and if she did not feel like speaking, he knew his presence would at least comfort her. So, he sat with her, hugging her close to him, letting her know that he was always there for her.
