Zee stretched out on the grass beneath the starlit sky, his eyes half-shut as he contemplated. On his chest, Myst lay curled, already sleeping. Absently, the young Rider stroked the hatchling's head.
Zee sighed to himself. The stars were not in the right location, all of them seeming to be slightly out of place. He knew it was because he was so far removed from the places he already knew. A part of him disliked being here, in Bromsland. Alagaesia was his home. The Ayati tribe was his home. Without the comfort of his family and friends surrounding him, he felt very isolated in the world. He belonged with them, and it was his duty to protect them.
But, as his parents had insisted, it was also his duty to go to Bromsland and study, learn how to be a true Rider. Zee had understood, and he knew their point. Neither of them had really had the opportunity to study properly under the Riders. A lot of it was just sharing experience with other Riders nearly as young as they from Gladia Celesti. They wanted him to learn what it really meant to be a Rider from those who had received proper training in the past.
He stretched and closed his eyes more fully, willing himself to fall asleep. He, of course, had a room of his own in New Doru Araeba, but he never was comfortable in such a confining, solid place as a building. He only went there to eat or study, whatever habits necessitated shelter. Otherwise, he spent all his time outdoors.
"I hope we can go home soon, Myst," he whispered to his dragon. She stirred for a moment, then curled more tightly and gave a small, squeeky snore.
