Character's name: Ashton Shepard-Riker
Character's age: 17
Character's attitude: Ash is hard as nails, with a tough no-nonsense attitude. She grew up in the shadow of her parents, both great war heroes. She is constantly training in an attempt to surpass them. As of now, the only one who is ever able to get her to soften up even a little is her younger brother.
Character's Race: human
Character's appearance:
Ash is very nearly a copy of her mother; her hair is much darker, but that is the only discernable difference upon first inspection. She is nearly always wearing a white-gray armor that covers her entire body. She also wears a magically augmented device over her right eye that allows her to make the most precise strikes. On the occasion that she is seen relaxing, she wears a formal tunic with mail underneath.
Character's allegiance: Queen Nasuada, the Dragon Riders.
Weapons: Ash carries an assortment of weapons to battle, including a bow, a longsword, and a dagger. Occasionally, she'll switch out her bow for a broadsword. She also has the ability to use magic, which she has been trained for at Du Vrangr Gata's school for young magicians.
History: Ashton was born approximately eight months after the war against Galbatorix reached its conclusion. Her parents are Captain Samuel Riker and Commander Eron Shepard. These two had both been extremely instrumental in winning the war and distinguished themselves with valor. Her mother had hoped that she would live a life pursuing the peace they both had fought so hard to obtain, but Ash saw things rather differently. As she grew up hearing about her parents' accomplishments--even so much as her mother practically being raised from the dead after two years--she felt this incredible burden placed upon her to keep her family's pride. By the time she was ten, she started training with various weapons, spending time with her father to learn these arts. When she was eleven, her magical abilities made themselves apparent, and she was by law required to attend a school in order to learn how to control this power. During her education in the arcane arts, she continued her pratice with swords and bow. A friend of hers who was practicing the art of enchanting made a special device out of metal and glass, that when the glass was placed over the eye would inhance the wearer's vision over a hundred times, making shots with a bow one of the easiest tasks in the world, and even sword fighting and hand-to-hand was benefited. He gave her this as a birthday present.
Ashton has recently finished her education in magic and, as the law requires, has sworn fealty to Queen Nasuada. She also immediately volunteered to be a part of the army. With war brewing, she is hoping to accomplish valorous acts that will bring pride to her parents and, as she feels, make her worthy of bearing their names.
Role Play Sample:
Ashton knelt in the grass, quietly tracking the deer's movements. She watched it carefully, waiting for the precise moment. As she did, she imagined that the creature was one of the Empire soldiers her parents had fought against in the past. Ambush was a good way to deal a great amount of damage to the enemy before they even knew what hit them.
She held her breath and drew her bow back, taking careful aim. She released her arrow, but made a slight noise as she did so, alerting the animal. Her arrow struck, but missed a vital spot, allowing it to hobble away. Ash cursed herself; not only had she missed her hit, the deer was likely going to suffer the rest of its life and die soon with that arrow stuck in its side.
"Here, Ash," her friend said. He handed her an odd, metallic device. "Try using this next time."
"What is it?" she asked, turning it over a couple of times. He took it back and fastened it securely to the side of her head.
"It's something I designed myself," he told her. "I crafted it and enchanted it. You should be able to make your perfect aim without even thinking about it now."
Ashton looked around, the glass part of the device securely over her eye. She could see everything. A gnat twenty meters away was buzzing around contentedly. The leaves of distant trees each had distinct veins. She could even see the faint tracks and blood trail left by her missed prey.
"This is...amazing," she said. "Thanks so much."
