Maude felt her anxiety lift away at Ian's playful smile. Seeing it felt so good, as if, no matter what, they would always be like this together. She would keep the image in her mind, even when they were apart. It would give her hope in dark times. He whispered in her ear, and she felt her heart quicken. "Hey!" She called after him as he dashed off. Maude ran after him as the night settled fully upon them and the crickets stirred the air with their songs. Tonight, at least, they would all rest easy.
