Darn RvB! I'm going to have to physically restrain myself from attempting to recreate all the freelancers because they're all so completely awesome! Except Wyoming and Maine. Only two I don't like. lol

Character's name: Carolina (Number One)
Character's age: 25
Character's attitude: Carolina is straight forward and serious about life. She is the best at what she does and she knows it; if that position is ever threatened, she will jealously react, fighting to the death to prove how good she really is. However, she does have a more gentle, humorous side with those closest to her.
Character's Race: human
Character's appearance:
Carolina has long fiery red hair to match her temperment, and emerald green eyes. She wears heavy armor in a shade of blue-green, completed by a helmet that fully covers her face. She is somewhat short, about 5'2" but that is not a hinderance to her at all.
Character's allegiance: Queen Nasuada, Dragon Riders
Weapons: Carolina is exceptionally skilled at martial arts, able to take down a large number of armed enemies with her bare hands and ingenuity. She also has skill with ranged weapons, particularly a dart thrower--a kind of miniature crossbow that can be used with one hand and fires poisoned darts. She has the ability to use magic, but typically only casts wards around herself, and using some shape-shifting to avoid detection by enemies, often blending in with them until such a time as she could attack. She never uses magic as a direct offense.
Other Info: When she was fifteen, she was the chosen Rider of a teal two-headed dragon. However, they had hardly been together even a year before a trusted friend betrayed them, killed the dragon, and took their eldunari, leaving to join the Shade Uprising.
History: Carolina is the daughter of a man who is now a Rider of fair standing in Bromsland, and a woman who was an anonymous hero in the war against Galbatorix. Her parents rarely spent time together, as their duties often kept them separated. Carolina was raised mostly by her mother and her aunt. Her mother often had to leave on missions for the Varden, but she never told Carolina goodbye. Instead, she told her "Never say goodbye. If you don't say it, then you've never really left." She died during the assault on Uru'baen.
Carolina's father was heartbroken at the death of his love, and would have gone completely insane if it weren't for his young dragon. Still, some small part of him has always been shattered, though he is stable enough to be a teacher to the younger generations of Riders in Bromsland. Once victory was achieved, he took care of Carolina, raising her and training her to fight. It quickly became evident that she possessed a skill level that rivaled that of her mother's, especially when it came to hand-to-hand combat. She was a natural, being able to move gracefully around. When she was ten, she once beat up a group of teenaged boys over twice her size who had been taunting her.
When she was fifteen, Carolina was presented to the dragon eggs in New Doru Araeba. To her, they all seemed like flawless gems, except for one. The teal one was larger than most, and incredibly misshapen. Still, it intrigued her the most, and she spent the most time with it. After a few weeks, the egg hatched, and a two-headed dragon emerged. How exactly the egg was formed was a mystery to the Riders, but it seemed healthy enough. Carolina rapidly learned that they were, in fact, two individual dragons, though they often agreed with one another and had to cooperate. The left one, named Celta, was the dominant of the two, though Stella always made sure her opinion was heard on everything. Carolina quickly grew to love them, although the near constant babble of two additional voices in her head almost drove her crazy at first.
Carolina also had a best friend in New Doru Araeba named Connie, or when they were older CT. They were more or less inseperable as kids, and often Carolina protected Connie, like a big sister, though her friend wasn't a pushover. About a month before Celta and Stella hatched, CT went missing, assumed to have run away for unknown reasons. Carolina was confused and crushed by this, and insisted that Connie had a reason for what she'd done.
About a year later, Carolina and her bonds were visiting Alagaesia, near the Spine, with a friend and fellow Rider. They got separated for a short time, and when they reunited, he seemed somehow different. His dragon was nowhere in sight either. When she asked him what happened, all he would say was that he lost him. Carolina and her dragons decided that they would help him search for his lost bond, but the moment her back was turned, he suddenly and unexpectedly lunged at Celta and Stella, attacking them with vicious brutality and force, but taking his time to kill them. Carolina tried to rush to their defense, but their thrashing limbs made it impossible for her to get close enough. Finally, he cut the dragons' hearts of hearts out of their chest and stole into the mountains with them, leaving Carolina behind with the corpse of what had once been her two dearest friends.
After a day or two limply sitting beside the dead dragons in shock, Carolina listlessly began wandering the countryside away from the mountains until she collapsed somewhere west of Daret. Luckily, she was found by a farmer who happened to own the land where she passed out, and he and his wife nursed her back to health. After several long days, she was finally willing to talk about what happened. The farmer immediately told her to go to Illeria and let the queen know what had happened. She did so, and there she promised her skills to Nasuada, to be used however the queen saw fit. This was exceptionally timely as Nasuada was arranging for the training of a special tasks force that was a small additional branch to the military. It quickly became evident that Carolina was the best of the recruited members, and the others rapidly began referring to her as "Number One."
A few short months after Carolina joined this special tasks force, they were sent on a mission to investigate a possible rebellion. It was rumored that this was a faction of spies working for the Shade Rider. While investigating, Carolina was shocked and horrified to find CT among them. Initially, she had refused to kill her, instead demanding an explanation. However, a distrusting member of Carolina's team cut Connie down before she could say more than a couple of words, leaving Carolina to watch helplessly as yet another friend was killed before her eyes. To make matters worse, it was later discovered that this faction they were investigating were not rebelling against the Empire and spying for Katriana, but rather the exact opposite. They were gathering what information they could on the Shade Rider and their forces to report back to Nasuada; they moved covertly on their own to avoid drawing Katriana's attention to themselves.
Now...well, Carolina has done a lot of thinking on her past. With the revelation of the Shade Uprising, she's attempting to piece together what might have happened to her so-called friend. Whether by trickery or persuasion, the Shade Rider must have recruited him into her ranks. It was possible that Katriana had his dragon killed so they could use his eldunari for whatever purpose she had in mind; that same purpose was why he also killed her bonds and stole their hearts. Whatever the reason, Carolina still holds bitter hatred and resentment toward him, and she has every intention of killing him if and when she meets him again.
Role Play Sample:
But you know we have a better chance if we go for the females! Stella argued with her twin, the voice resounding in Carolina's mind.
The male makes a greater catch, Celta replied matter-of-factly, getting ready to pounce on the herd of deer.
Don't forget, I'm hungry too! Stella pointed out. The two argued for another few moments back and forth before Celta finally agreed that, for the sake of her twin's desire to eat as well, they would forego the single buck and instead feast on the rest of the herd. Carolina rubbed her forehead at the headache forming. Despite being bonded with them for nearly a year, the resounding two voices in her head were still a thing she was trying to get used to.
Thus decided, the two-headed dragon leapt from their hiding spot to attack the herd. But then, the deer melted away into the ground, and the buck transformed into the image of...Jermaine? What was he...? Carolina lost sight of her friend as Celta and Stella blocked her view. Apprehension grew in her stomach, and she began running after them. Her legs felt as if they were moving through mud, and she heard the torturous, resounding echo of the twins shrieking in agony as Jermaine butchered them slowly. Carolina's screams joined theirs as she felt as if her head and body were being split apart...
She awoke with a start, panting, sweating, shaking. The tortured screams in her head of her dying dragons faded away to the more maddening silence. She groaned and rolled over, feeling sick, dizzy, and exhausted. Sitting up on the side of the bed, she put her head in her hands and waited for her murkiness to clear.
Never say goodbye, her mother's voice echoed in her head from her very distant memories. That way, I'm not really gone.
"I never told Celta and Stella goodbye, either," she said quietly, but with conviction. "They're still alive, in their hearts. I'm going to save them." She made the promise to herself as she drew in another shaky breath.
