Might I mention that Altair is a freaking awesome name?
Your username: Jeriah/Tismri
Character's name: Altair Dusheynka
Character's age: 23
Character's attitude: Altair is ruthless and cunning, sharp-sighted and very observant. He has no lust for power, no real hatred. He will do what he can to protect the innocent, including kill whoever he must. All he wishes for is peace, though in order to achieve that I knows certain people have to die. He feels kinship toward his fellow brethren and, as one of the oldest survivors of the defected, he is extremely protective of them. Though he rarely gets close to anyone, when he does let someone in, they will see that he is rather sensitive and lonely. Despite generally not holding feelings of anger or hatred, he does have a festering desire for revenge in his heart.
Character's Race: human
Character's appearance:
Unlike the Family, who often wear black when attending to their business, Altair and his defected brethren instead wear white with red accents. Altair's hood almost completely shrouds his face, leaving the tip of the nose down unobscured. He has a small, jagged scar on the right side of his mouth. He has longish black hair and sea-gray eyes.
Character's allegiance: Neutral; he is a member of his own faction he calls the Brotherhood, which is a small rebellious faction that stripped itself away from the Family. As such, the two groups often seek to eradicate the other, and the Brotherhood often remains in hiding from the bloodthirsty Family.
Weapons: Altair uses a variety of weapons for whatever the occasion calls for. As an excellent swordsman, he has a long blade for single combat, a short blade on his back that is more useful when fending off multiple opponents, a hidden blade beneath his left wrist useful in performing assassinations, and throwing knives and a crossbow for distance.
Other Info: Altair is very strong, fast, and agile; added to being a quick thinker, he can outrun most any sort of pursuit. He can climb buildings with the greatest of ease, and can make seemingly suicidal leaps from high places when he spots a soft landing, such as a haystack. He can also find ingenious places to hide in plain sight, such as sitting in between to people, or among groups of similarly dressed individuals. He knows how to disappear, and does so whenever necessary.
History: Altair Dusheynka was born to a noble family some years before the fall of Galbatorix. He was raised with a normal life until he was three years old, when he was kidnapped by a man who had been sent to assassinate his father. Being raised by this killer, Altair was trained and groomed to be among the best, and his abilities very much impressed the Family, which his mentor was a part of. By the age of ten, he was accepted into the Family himself and began to perform assassinations of his own.
However, both he and his mentor--who he looked up to as a father--grew uneasy with the way the Family operated. Altair did not feel the bonds of brotherhood with many of the members, and he did not agree with the goals they were trying to achieve. Another five years passed, and as he spoke with other assassins his age, he found that they were sharing his same sentiments. One night, around fifty Family members total, including Altair and his mentor, gathered together and fled the Family, forming their own, a Brotherhood. They lived by a different set of rules; they would only kill those who needed to be killed, the scum of the earth who kept peace from being realized. They formed their own tenants: First, stay your blade from the blood of the innocent; second, do not bring unnecessary attention to yourself; and third, do not dishonor the Brotherhood.
As expected, when the rest of the Family learned of this defection, their wrath was ignited fully. Many of the oldest members ruthlessly hunted these turncoats down and murdered them with more brutality and could be thought humanly possible. Altair was hiding on the roof of his home as he witness Lucien strike down his mentor and proceed to decimate him until his corpse was little more and an unrecognizable pile of meat and blood. At that moment, Altair swore vengeance for the man who was like his father.
At the end of the massacre, only seven of the Brotherhood managed to escape to a safer location. They still hold true to their beliefs, and their contracts rival those of their counterpart's. They have also been known to intercept couriers dispatching contracts to the Family, accepting them as their own if they deem it worthy or burning the letters if the intended victims are innocent people. Lastly, they keep their existance known among the Family so that any who wish to escape the seemingly inescapeable may come to them.
Altair himself is both famous and infamous throughout the Empire. He has rescued many innocent citizens of shakedowns from thugs, saved many a damsel in distress, and generally earned favors from most of the common folk around the major cities. Alternatively, his assassinations are known and feared by the corrupted noblity, and quietly praised by the more pure-hearted.
Role Play Sample:
Altair read the note that was brought to him by the hawk, pressing his lips together. It was a contract, intercepted by one of his brothers. It has been on its way to the Family, who were known to accept any task without question. This meant that request could go either way for him.
"Well, Altair?" one of the young assassins asked, "What is the contract for? Should we just burn it?"
"I'm...I'm not sure," Altair replied. He folded it and slipped it into his pocket. "The contract is on the ruling family of Belatona."
"Lord Elias?" one young woman asked, pausing in the middle of fletching an arrow, "Surely we must burn it, then! He has done nothing but good for his city."
"No, not for Elias," Altair stated, gathering a few weapons together. "It's his sister, Eliza." He turned to exit the door, stepping out into the cold, woodsey night air. Before closing it, he looked back inside. "Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone. I want to find all my brothers alive when I return." With that, he mounted his horse waiting for him and began to ride for Belatona. He would have to investigate the Lady of Belatona; he'd often heard mixed reports about her dealings, some saying she was a kind and fair ruler and others saying she was a crafty, manipulative politician. What he heard when he reached the city would determine whether or not the woman would live or die by his blade.
