Character's name: Nextith
Character's age: unknown
Character's attitude:
Nextith can be described as paternal in a gruff will-toss-the-child-into-the-water-to-teach-them-to-swim-way. He means well, but, he believes strongly in helping those around him be self-sufficient. The world is hard, and he knows it better than some. This gruff love is at odds with his elven heritage, and applies strictly to those nearest him. To him, above all else, family is important. It does not matter how far he wanders, those individuals he calls his own are never too far out of reach. Should they call for aid, however dire the situation they find themselves in, he will be there to help. If someone falls outside this circle, it is a gamble as to whether or not Nextith will provide aid. It depends on the cause presented and the person asking.
As gruffly kind as he is, Nextith can be brutal when the situation calls for it. As said before, he cherishes family, as was seen when he defected from the Empire late in the war in order to protect Andril, who was a rider of the Varden he had taken under his wing in her younger years. Despite his rough, seemingly uncaring personality, he only truly feels alive and with purpose when he is in battle. He believes that things are much simpler in battle, when a man can simply focus on primal instinct, and the need to protect what is of value. He prefers to deal in black and white, which is part of why he chose the path he did.
Character's Race: Elf
Character's appearance:
Nextith is a tall, well-built elf, his physique made so from constant fighting over the past few decades. His pale skin is marred by scars from wounds that were allowed to heal naturally, telling of his long history on the battlefield. He has striking blue eyes, which miss very little and are offset by his black hair. Before the end of the war, he was often seen with a stoically serious expression, now, however, he bears a perpetual half smile and is much more laid back. He prefers plain clothing, simple tunics and breeches, though he keeps his armor in good repair.
Character's allegiance: Dragon Riders
Weapons: Nextith carries a thin longsword. As a backup, he wears a pair of daggers in his boots. He is usually seen in combat wearing light elvish armor, made for mobility, not endurance. He goes without a helm as it blocks his visibility. While he is capable of using a bow, he much prefers not to. Like most of his people, he is proficient in magic, he simply prefers to use it mainly for practical purposes.
Other Info: Nextith was in a close relationship with a former Rider of the Varden, Andril. It is because of this bond that he defected from the Empire. As a result, he is embroiled in the feud between her children, Varda and Eladan.
History:
Nextith joined the war between the Varden and Empire on the Empire's side, believing that Galbatorix had maintained the peace well enough. When he met his young friend, Andril, on the battlefield, however, his view was changed. He was forced to make a choice: family ties or a cause that he was beginning to grow unsure of. He chose to side with the Varden as one of their soldiers, fighting against the men he once defended and the elves he once called friends. While the decision was difficult, and the consequences painful, he remained firm.
After the war, Nextith failed to settle down. He began wandering Alagasia in pursuit of remnants of the Empire to quell. When that was done, he disappeared. A short time after the Shade Rider made her appearance, Nextith returned from his mysterious sojourn and once again offered his services to the side of good.
Role Play Sample:
Nextith looked up into the blue of the sky, lying on his back in the supple grass. The word of a threat to the peace had brought him back to the side of the former Varden. He had been restless since the end of the war. He was a warrior, who had known the taste of battle, and, though it may be wrong, longed for it again. Only when he was able to defend what he cared for with his own two hands, was he truly happy.
He sighed as memories flooded his mind. Memories of battles and foes, allies and those lost. Those were the times when life was simpler. When his life had a goal. After defecting to the Varden, he had been hell bent on assisting in rendering the Empire into oblivion. He had never put much thought into what came after that. Which is most likely why he had felt so lost when the war ended.
Nextith sat up, drawing one knee up so as to rest his arm across it.
Without purpose, without direction, he had opted to disappear. He would not be like his brethren who sat in Du Weldenvarden, crooning to trees and making pretty trinkets. He had wandered far and wide, exploring, learning, sometimes fighting.
Then word of a new threat had reached him. The news of the Shade uprising had made his heart rate pick up speed, his pupils to dilate in what could only be excitement. While peace was desirable and good, it was in the heat of battle that Nextith felt that he had purpose. He had quickly made his way back to Alagasia, back to the familiar territories that had been so drenched in the blood of war.
He went back to the land and people that he would protect until his last breath.
