Character's name: Sideon Blödhlam (also called Du Aurboda Orúm and Svartr Dauthí)
Character's age: 300-400
Character's attitude:
Considered a madman and an abomination by his fellow elves, Sideon is dark and cruel. He was once a scholar, though, now this term applies in only the loosest manner. He lost his kin’s love of life while imprisoned in Uru'baen, when he became something utterly different from the elf he had been before. He believes that the moment before death is when a person is at their most vulnerable, their eyes revealing everything about them, and has taken to watching the light disappear from the eyes of his victims. In this way, he believes that he is slowly unlocking what he calls ‘the secret’, though, no one is quite sure what this might be. Nevertheless, he continues his ‘studies’, often torturing victims in order to discern just how much one body can take before death.
Sideon is, in a word, snakelike. He is mesmerizing and charming, but simultaneously deadly and full of poison. His soul, if he has one, must be like the darkest pit in Alagasia. He enjoys manipulating others and toying with their emotions and minds until they fall into despair, breaking them utterly. He also takes peculiar delight in the dissection and careful documentation of corpses of any kind. Though he would still consider himself a scholar, he has become more of a mad scientist.
Sideon is always soft spoken, his voice like velvet, smooth and inviting. His face usually bears a pleasant expression, save when he wears a condescending smirk, and he is quick to give complements to pretty ladies or those who think themselves powerful. If it means achieving his current goal, he will play whatever game necessary, though, the other players usually lose.
Character's Race: Elf
Character's appearance:
Sideon has black eyes that some have compared to the pits of hell. They are cold and cruel, lacking any warmth. His gaze is said to be like a barbed spear, driving into the soul. He is very skilled at using his eyes in his manipulation, filling them with false emotions in order to draw others in. His hair is black, flowing down his back and around his face in a smooth curtain. When in combat or on a mission, his hair is tied back in a high tail. Other times, he prefers to leave it down. Like many of his race, Sideon stands above the heads of human men. He himself is head and shoulders above any human male he has met, bordering on seven feet tall.
Sideon’s skin is quite pale, giving him a rather vampire-like appearance. He is usually wears black or red and is never seen wearing the color white. Sideon is tall and slender, like all elves. His features are very sharp and he bears himself with a predatory regality. He is considered beautiful even by his own race, though, many consider his beauty wasted. His smiles, though usually false, can light up a room and win the hearts of many human women. Even when wearing his usual cruel half-smirk, he is undeniably attractive, though, his personality and warped mentality cause him to be incapable of true affection. He bears numerous scars from combat, the largest of which is a mark that runs horizontally across his right side, from his lumbar back to his stomach. This mark was given to him during the war with the Varden when he met the Ancient, Lucian, in combat, and barely escaped with his life.
Character's allegiance: Formerly of the Empire, now loyal to the Shade Uprising
Weapons:
Sideon carries a number of small blades on his person. Most of them are coated in toxins. He always has access to the antidotes of these toxins, since it would be very foolish not to do so. He also is quite proficient in magic, though he much perfers to slip a dagger between someone's ribs rather than risk wasting energy in a spell gone wrong.
Other Info:
Sideon was infamous for his ability to disguise himself and stealthily dispose of spies of the Varden and other threatening targets. He was also known to hunt Riders occassionally, though he only suceeded in killing one, Nerof, whose dragon, Thorek, died a few moments after his Rider. He came in contact and battled with many young and inexperianced Riders of the Varden or who had chosen neutrality. The scar in his side was given to him by one such Rider.
History:
Sideon was once like his brethren, a peaceful scholar who wished only to immerse himself in the wonders of the world around him. For his first hundred and fifty or so years, he remained like this, becoming a respected individual in his pursuit of knowledge. However, it was around this point in time that he decided a sabbatical was in order. He disappeared into the darkness of the largely untouched parts of Du Weldenvarden, cutting off contact with his fellows in order for mediation and soul searching.
It was nearly twenty years later that he returned, though, in the lifespan of an immortal, it was only a short time. Sideon had changed drastically over his time alone. He was dark, brooding, and often kept to himself. Those who knew him well found themselves facing a stranger and wondering what had happened during his time alone. They never received an answer, and the elf who had once been their friend became a hermit of sorts, choosing to remain mostly separate from his race.
When the fall of the Riders cam to pass, Sideon joined with his brethren in their fight against Galbatorix and his usurpers. It was during this time that his fellows began to realize the true extent of his darkness as it began to exude from within. He seemed to revel in the battles they fought, each stroke of his sword pushing him further and further into what would later be correctly labeled as madness. It was later in the war that Sideon was captured and taken to Uru'baen.
A captive by the Empire, Sideon was tortured both mentally and pysically. It did not take long for him to snap, as he was already at the breaking point prior to his capture. He was quickly turned into the assassin Galbatorix desired, becoming a willing servant of the mad king. At this time, he was officially banished from Du Weldenvarden. Due to the roll he played under Galbatorix's command, he became known as Blödhlam (blood hand) and Du Aurboda Orúm (The Banished Serpent) by his fellow elves, and Svartr Dauthí (Black Death) by the magicians and other assassins of Galbatorix's forces. Instead of being disgraced by these names, however, Sideon took on the foremost as a surname of sorts, mockingly embracing the role his fellows cast him into.
During the time of Galbatorix’s reign, Sideon acted as an interrogator, torturer, assassin, and whatever other role his skills allowed him to play. He became a known and feared figure throughout the Empire and reveled in the reputation he garnered. When the Varden and their Riders came to actively oppose Galbatorix, Sideon often met them in the field. Later, he also assisted in combating the elves’ march. He became an infamous figure in the war with the Varden, known for his cruelty and craftiness, as well as his enjoyment of hunting Riders.
After the war, Sideon was captured and set to be executed as a war criminal. He mysteriously escaped, however, leaving nothing in his wake but an empty cell and a few corpses. After his escape, he disguised himself and worked as a mercenary and assassin for hire. When this became too risky, a number of years later, he hid himself in the Spine. Though people were becoming more adventuresome about going into the mountains, he easily remained hidden and was responsible for a few of the 'disappearances' of those who ventured too near his hiding place. Their bodies were always found at the bottom of a cliff or in the paws of flesh eating animals, leading to the assumption that they had died of 'accidents' and keeping Sideon's location quite safe. Every so often, he would sneak down from the mountains and into small villages, listening for news. It was on one such occassion that he heard of the Shade Uprising. He immediately left the Spine and found a way to make contact with the usurpers, more than willing to join their ranks if it meant being able to kill again in order to find "the secret" he searched for.
Role Play Sample:
Sideon smirked to himself as he stood in the lengthening shadows, watching the woman before him make her way down the street of the housing district. She was pretty enough, he supposed, though rather unimposing. She passed numerous others who were returning home, just another face to be forgotten in the bustle of the day. He, however, knew that this is exactly what the woman desired, to be forgotten. She was a spy for one of Queen Nasuada's men, working on gaining information about the miltary movements of the Shade army. It was imperative that she maintain a low profile. To the townspeople, she was anonymous. To Sideon, however, she was a target. He admired the smooth skin of her neck as she passed his hiding place, wondering how it would look when drenched in her own blood.
More lovely than any rubies you may wear, my dear, he mused, his black eyes following her as she stepped onto a porch and entered a house.
As soon as the door closed behind her, he darted across the street, slipping into the shadows near the house and finding a new hiding place. Now all that was left to do was wait until nightfall, when she would fall asleep. His pale lips twisted in a smile. Yes, she would sleep, but she would never again witness another sunrise.
