Your username: Jaxrond (arwyn)
Character's name: Varda
Character's age: 20 maybe 25. Looks much older than she is.
Character's attitude: Varda is very quiet. This is not a weakness but a way to protect herself. She is a strong Rider outwardly, which makes her come off as sullen and rude. On the inside, however, she is very fearful. Due to her accelerated growth and foreign memories, as well as the betrayal of her brother, Eladan, she has withdrawn into herself and is very hesitant to let anyone aside from Blizzard, her dragon, into her mental sanctuary.
Character's Race: Elf
Character's appearance:
Varda inherited her father's dark hair and eyes. She is small, standing at around 5'0, and slender. She usually wears black breeches and a white shirt. She wears a sword on her belt.
Character's allegiance: Dragon Riders
Weapons: Varda has the ability to wield two swords. This is because her mother, Andril, whose experiences she received, trained in the Florentine style. She carries one sword with her and leaves the other strapped to Blizzard's saddle. Varda is proficient in magic. Her mental defenses are strong, but she struggles offensively because she is unwilling to harm the mind of another.
Other Info: Though she is unwilling to allow others in, Varda yearns for someone who could truely love her and perhaps help her come out of her self-constructed barrier, which she lacks the courage to do on her own.
History:
Varda and her twin brother, Eladan, were born to former rider of the Varden, Andril, and her husband, former Imperial Rider, Senor. The birth of the twins did not go unnoticed by Galbatorix. Andril and Senor had chosen to live in a rather secluded area of the Empire, hoping to be forgotten, due to the death of Senor's dragon, Shanith. Their hopes were crushed, however, when the assassin Sideon was sent to claim the children while Andril and her bond, Vanador, were away. Grief stricken by the loss of his dragon, Senor could not stop him, even as powerful as he was. The children were taken to Urubaen where an egg hatched for each of them. The mad king accelerated the growth of both pairs, looking to have them battle-ready quickly. He used memories taken from their parents to make up for their lack of experiances. Her mother's battle experiance cramming into her mind, only the presence of her dragon, Blizzard, allowed to keep her wits about her. Due to their youth and yet undeveloped personalities, the King could not discover the twins' true names and keep a hold on them. Varda and Blizzard escaped Urubaen during a training session, outflying their instructor and managing to make it to a Varden camp. There, her mind was searched by the Ancient dragon, Alorah, who took pity upon her and helped her to sort out her jumbled memories and experiances enough that she began to develop her own personality and become more stable.
Varda defeated her derranged twin brother, Eladan, at the battle of Urubaen. Managing to incapacitate him and his dragon, Amythest, enough that they were taken hostage. She then supervised their movement to Du Weldenvarden, where it was promised that their minds would be healed. Near the end of the sixteen year period, Varda paid her brother a visit. He managed to convince her that he was well enough to take a flight with his bond. Knowing that a Rider who was unable to fly was an unhappy Rider indeed, she consented, acting as his escort. She wanted nothing more than to believe he had indeed become of a more sound mind. As they flew however, Eladan and Amythest attacked them, surprising them enough that the male elf and his dragon could escape.
Since the end of Galbatorix's reign, Varda has stayed in New Doru Arabea, still recieving much aid in the attempt to keep herself sane. She spent much time alone with Blizzard and refused to teach the new Riders, believing that she was too broken to do so. Many of the older Riders, including Eragon, have managed to convince her otherwise ever since she served with the Varden, but she has refused to hear it. She now works with the Dragon Riders against the Shade Rebellion.
Dragon
Name: Blizzard
Age: a little younger than his Rider
Appearance: Blizzard is a large white dragon. Due to his accelerated growth he is large for his age.
Personality: Blizzard is a down to earth, no nonsense dragon. He is extraordinarily protective of his Rider. While he too was greatly effected by the forced growth and memories, he rebounded much more quickly than Varda simply because he is a dragon. Blizzard is very gentle around Varda but can come across as very gruff to others.
Role Play Sample:
Varda stared numbly at the rock wall on the other side of the cave. She did not move even as the minutes stretched by. She sat, propped against Blizzard, her mind whirling with thoughts.
It's all my fault. I shouldn't have believed him. Now he's loose again!
She remembered the carnage her brother had left in his wake during the war and shuddered, burrowing closer to Blizzard's warm side. The dragon shifted his wing to cover her, as if to hide her from the torment she was suffering.
The blame is shared. I should have stopped you.
We should have known. I wanted so badly to actually have a brother and not a hunter who is after my blood, Varda lamented.
I know.
Varda laid against his side, feeling the warmth that came from his scales as though he contained an inner fire. He allowed calm thoughts to stream through the bond, eventually causing her eyelids to flutter.
Sleep, dear one, I shall not allow him to harm you. You shall have your brother, the one you desire.
Her eyes closed as fear and anxiety were washed away by the promise of her Bondmate.
