Serena's time catching up with her mother was interrupted by KiNok rushing back into the tavern screaming about slavers. She was surprised at such an accusation, especially from one young enough to not remember a time before slavery was outlawed. Perhaps the disgusting trading of humans was not quite as stamped out as they thought? That was a troubling idea, but she didn't have much time to contemplate it as the windows suddenly exploded. The sharp glass and other shrapnel bounced harmlessly off her wards. She nodded at her mother's instructions and drew her sword while preparing to call upon her magic. Her book she held protectively against her body, trying to ensure the least amount of damage to it as possible.

Outside the tavern, Kailah admired her handywork. She was not as adept with using fire as she was with lightning, but she did well enough to achieve her desired effect. This pathetic human village was doing little to put up a resistance at the moment, mostly due to the surprise attack. Men grew arrogant with the Varden's defeat of Galbatorx, and they believed nothing could harm them. Similar sentiments were growing from Katriana's army already. When one side or the other emerged the victor, she knew her time would come. They would be weakened, and with persuasion, Kailah knew she could recruit her kin to join her cause and claim the world as her own. She just needed patience, as she exercised now while watching her so-called allies rush upon the tavern.
