Character's name: Human name was Laurel, but as a shade she calls herself Morna.
Character's age: 26
Character's attitude: Before turning, Laurel was aloof with strangers and even friends. She had a no-nonsense attitude, and preferred books to people as company. Knowledge was power, and Laurel intended to become a powerful magician. After being taken over by spirits, Morna emerged, and with her a sinister shift in personality. Morna enjoys suffering, and she enjoys flaunting her power. She abides by Galbatorix's rule only because she can wreak havoc under his name and not be punished for it. Not that she fears punishment. Morna's personality is deceptive, because she always acts like a friend and with an eerie over-politeness, but the threat in her eyes is hard to mistake.
Character's Race: Shade
Character's appearance: As a human, Laurel was of average height and sharp features. Her hair was black and her eyes were blue. As a shade, she now looks more like this:
Character's allegiance: Empire
Weapons: Two swords, one a short sword and the other long, which gives her a unique fighting style. Magic, of course, is also in her arsenal.
Other Info: Plans on overthrowing Galbatorix herself once the Varden are defeated.
History: Laurel was born in Uru'baen, but give up to an orphanage. At an early age she gained a fascination in magic, and at every opportunity visited the library in the city and scoured books of magic. At sixteen she managed her first small spell, and from them on worked to become ever more powerful. After leaving the orphanage she decided to enlist in Galbatorix's army, where she thought she'd have a better chance of learning more about magic. At that time she was twenty, and for five years worked with Galbatorix's other magicians. At the age of twenty five, she tried channeling spirits for the first time. Unfortunately for her they were too powerful, and quickly overtook her, creating the shade Morna. At the moment of change the spirits went on an enraged killing spree, murdering a number of servants and soldiers. The spirits eventually calmed and Morna agreed to serve Galbatorix, although she was forming plans of her own.
Role Play Sample: The only light that illuminated the library was the candelabra set in the center of a single table. The table was set far back in the castles vaulting library, in a discreet corner where the reader wouldn't be disturbed. Laurel peered over the ancient tomb, the words faded and barely readable. The binding was in poor shape, flaking away and shredding. The pages were yellowed with age and musty. One pale finger traced line to line as she read, eagerly learning and memorizing the spell that would call spirits to her and give her strength. Laurel was already a strong magician, but the control of spirits would give an edge not many possessed. Once confident she had the summoning memorized, Laurel braced herself against the edge of the table and closed her eyes, her lips moving quickly as she repeated the words that would elevate her in the ranks of magicians. Once the spell had been spoken, Laurel gasped and clutched the table with tight fists. Form nowhere orbs of light flew into the room, spinning around her in a mad rushing dance. Laurel began to smile, thinking she had successfully summoned them. One of the spirits suddenly struck out, clouting her in the shoulder, where she experienced an excruciating pain. She could feel her control over them slowly slipping, and another spirit attacked her. "Stop, I command you!" she shrieked desperately, but this only seemed to infuriate them further. As one they rushed her, and Laurel screamed as they sank into her body, taking their revenge on the person who sought to capture them. Falling to the ground, Laurel wreathed as indescribable pain wracked her entire being. Even her mind was on fire, an agony so intense she couldn't even scream out any longer. Her black hair started shifting, turning a shade of green, her blue eyes turned a hateful crimson. "We are Morna!" the spirits said, using their human captive as a mouthpiece. "And all will suffer for your treachery!"
