"Ah, of course. I would've asked the same." He sat back down on the bench and closed his own eyes. His thoughts wandered to Telrun and what she was doing. Within seconds, tears coursed down his face, onto the ground. He wiped them away before Rauthr would notice. OCC: Telrun is Zak's love lol All my characters are somehow connected

After Marian returned home, she set about getting lunch while amry played in the garden with the careful instructions to "stay within sight of the house." She smiled as her little girl ran off to explore. "Her eyes are just like Kai's," she murmured, readying a dough to bake. Then she paused and sighed. She looked out a window to the light blue autumn sky. "Oh Salian, do you truly regret your actions now? Where are you? What are you doing? Is Torlynden still with you?" she wondered.
OOC: I'll have to pull him in sometime, lol.

Sorrel's hand slipped out of Raine's, dropping to his side. His head was bent over and his arms barely moved. His back moved with every sob that came out of his small body. Raine looked at him sadly. "It's going to be okay, Sorrel. Thade is fine, wherever she is." A small cat's head popped out of Raine's pack. To both the little boy and the woman he said, Dragons are dragons. They go where they like, don't tell anyone about it, and cause little boys to worry. Thade is probably with a lover. Sorrel gave the cat a nasty look. "She doesn't have a lover. I would know if she did. She would tell me." The cat's head disappeared back into the leather bag. Raine smiled slightly and took Sorrel's hand again. "Don't listen to him. He doesn't know what he's talking about." Sorrel still kept his head down. Raine sighed, and continued walking. Soon they came to the University of Gil'ead. "Ah, here we are." She opened the door and was met by a handsome young man. "Miss Raine?" Raine nodded, smiling. The man looked at Sorrel. "And this is...?" "Sorrel. My brother." The man smiled. "A very nice inn is just a couple shops down. We already paid for your room and such. The meeting will be tomorrow morning." Raine thanked him, then pulled Sorrel out of the building and down the road into the inn. She checked them both in, then brought him to their room. Once they got in, Sorrel put down his own pack and fell asleep on one bed. Reku climbed out of Raine's pack and curled up next to Sorrel. The woman sighed again, then watched them both sleep.

Marian left Amry with a close friend and then left to find a job for the day. Though most places did not accept women, she had to try to keep herself and Amry afloat while they waited for Salian's next load of money. She walked past the UoG (ooc: I didn't think that Alagaesia believed in educating the masses.) and down the street, looking for any likely stores.

occ:I thought another character with a child should drop in.lol. Lyo skipped down the street with Mia as her small finger curled around his. Mia was smiling and giggling and he couldn't help but laugh with her. She was always so happy its amazing she always has energy to laugh. As she skipped some more Lyo scooped her up and placed her on his shoulders. She giggled even louder and cried,"Faster." Lyo was happy to oblige. As they ran down the street heading to the UoG Mia squealed in childish delight as the air ran through her hair.

OOC: UoG...weird. lol!
Marola brought Cortell back to the nursery, where he was asleep in seconds. She lightly touched his cheek, then turned to leave the room. She was going out to the courtyard when she heard the front door open, loudly. She turned and faced the intruder, then stopped dead when she recognized him. "Marcus!" she gasped out. Marcus looked at her with a hint of steel in his gaze. "Hello, Marola," he said, walking toward her, "Having a good time at home, are we?" "What are you doing here?" she asked him, not budging from her place. "Oh, I just heard a little rumor about there being a little child living here, and thought it was worth looking in to." Marola's gaze grew hard. "What would ever make you think a thing like that was true?" "Well, the fact that you've returned to this house after sixteen years, for one thing. I thought you hated Gil'ead." "Get out of my house, Marcus," she said, reaching out for Zak. Zak, we have an unwelcome visitor. Could you please come escort him off the premises? "Not until I get what I came here for," he said mildly, forcibly shoving Marola out of the way and mounting the stairs.

OOC: lol "I go to UoG!" That reminds me of urgals... Zak's eyes snapped open and he gripped the hilt of his sword. He jumped up from the bench he had been napping on and rapped Rauthr on the muzzle. "Get up, Rauthr! Trouble for the Mistress!" He smiled slightly, amused at his joke, then frowned, running into Marola's mansion's entryway. He saw Marcus shove Marola, then start running up the stairs. Zak's face hardened, angry at how Marcus had even touched Marola. "Thrysta!" The word escaped from Zak's lips, a ball of blue energy flying from his outstretched palm. The energy hit Marcus like a speedy dragon, knocking him into the wall with an unearthly thud. Zak wondered if he was still conscious after a hit like that. OOC: I think that was god-moding...I'm sorry... *************************************************************************** In the evening twilight, Sorrel crept from the room him and a sleeping Raine were staying in. Reku jumped from Sorrel's bed and jumped out of the room before the door shut on him. Sorrel looked out the window at the end of the hall, seeing a man and a little girl running down the street. He smiled, wishing he was young and innocent like the little girl. Or maybe he was... Reku jumped up on the window sill, licking Sorrel's arm. What is wrong, youngling?Sorrel glared at the werecat, not sure how he got out of the room. First of all, you are younger than me. Second, you already know and don't care."Just go away." He said this aloud, resting his face on his hands.

Marcus felt the magic hit him and barely counteracted it when he slammed into the wall. He slowed his speed, but it still hurt. He got up and turned around, seeing a young man in the house now. He glanced at Marola amused. "Is this your new pet, Marola?" he asked. Marola glared at him, dragging him off the stairs and standing between it and him, blocking access to her son. "Marcus, leave, now," she ordered. The Black Hand agent smirked, though he felt like he was just buried under a pile of bricks. "Now, now, Marola," he said, "you know how important my work is. These powerful children need to be taken to a place where they can be looked after and trained." "I SAID GET OUT!!!" she shrieked at him, shoving him back. Marcus glared at her, knowing now that there indeed was a child here, and she was protecting him. He glanced back at Zak. "All right, I'll leave," he said, walking slowly toward the door.

Zak unsheathed his sword, holding it out at Marcus. "If you try anything, I will kill you." His eyes dared Marcus to make a threatening move.

Marcus glanced at Zak for a second on his way out. "I like your new toy, Marola," he commented on his way out the door. As he entered the doorway, he said "Garjzal, letta." Marola couldn't see anything for three minutes. She didn't move from her spot, knowing he couldn't get through the stairs without her knowing. She felt nothing and the blindness passed. Once she could see again, she panted and raced up the stairs. "Cortell!" she called, charging to the nursery. She jerked open the door and was relieved to see her baby sitting there smiling. She sighed and picked him up, holding him close.

Zak quickly jogged after Marola, then slowed down, once he heard nothing of alarm. Once he got into the nursery, Zak smiled at Cortell, then glanced at Marola. "Who was that?"

"That," Marola said with disgust, "was Marcus Cole. He is one of Galbatorix's Black Hand agents. He specializes in kidnapping children, especially those with magic. What they do to those kids only a select few know." She trailed off, gently stroking Cortell's soft head. "I'm worried, though," she said after a few minutes. "It's not like Marcus to give up so easily. He must have guessed by now that Cortell was here. I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of him for a while." She looked Zak in the eye. "I'm no longer your top priority. Cortell is in that position now. Protect him at all costs!"

Zak hesitantly agreed. Marola had become a close friend over the months and he wanted to protect her no matter what. But he also wanted to protect Cortell from anything threatening to the adorable little child. He gently pinched the baby's cheek, then seated himself on a stool beside the door. "I shall stay here unless you call."

Marola smiled at Zak, then placed Cortell gently back in the cradle. "Thank you," she said to him, "I know you would probably rather protect me, but Cortell is much more important. I can't allow any harm to come to him, at all."

Zak nodded. "I understand. I shall try my best to protect the both of you, but as you wish, I shall protect Cortell before yourself." His heart ached. Why must people try to harm those who do nothing to provoke it? His eyes drifted over to Marola. His heart also ached because he had nobody to talk to. Well, he had Marola, but he was afraid that she didn't think of him as a friend like he did of her.
