Nashante's rage grew as he restrained her with magic. "What is going on?"

Mar sat. "Would you please calm down? I asked you if you really wanted to know the truth, and you haven't answered me. Can you at least sit? Can't we talk civilly?" Mar let the magic go, gesturing to the stump across from him.

Reluctantly, Nashante sat upon the stump against her better judgment but he had roused her curiousity. "Fine. Now tell me the truth or I swear you will have the coven after you for the rest of your natural life no matter how many centuries it spans!"

Mar grinned at her. 'Bring it on, lady,' he thought. "The king really does with to see you. He did not tell me why, only to bring you and that I must watch over you for some time after," he said, warming his hands by the fire. He silhouette stood out against the growing night, only the faint outline of his swords visible.

Nashante still did not believe he didn't have any idea what the King wanted but she didn't like the feeling she was getting from the conversation. "I will go but our company shall be parted after I speak to the King. I have...plans that demand my immediate attention!"

Mar nodded. he could understand how she felt, but he still has a job to do. "Very well. But," he added. "I cannot speak for what the king will command of me."

Nashante continued to eye the man across the flames of the fire. She looked up into the night sky. The moon would be fully risen soon. It was the last night of the full moon and she would need to get away from him to finish her ritual. If she didn't, the power within her would not be bound to her will.
"Very well." she said "I shall report to the King."
She lay down next to the fire. Mar had tricked her, this she was sure but she could not move against him yet. Her skills were no match for his own. She worked through seduction and stealth, neither of which would be effective against him. She closed her eyes, feeling the power within washing over her like the tides of a mightly black ocean. She would bide her time until the moon rose, then slip away to complete the ritual of darkness. The ritual that had been forbidden for many centuries. She would not succumb to its forces as the last seithr that attempted it had. She was strong of will and she would bend the power to that will, but in order to do that, she would need to finish the ritual on the last night of the full moon. That night was tonight. The King's request was ill-timed.

Mar lay down near the fire, swords drawn and across his chest. He slept with one eye open, a combat sleep, constantly scanning the area for someone trying to kill him. He knew in the back of his mind that Nashante would try to get away, or move somewhere, but he wasn't concerned. He had set up weak wards at a set perimeter, that would wake him if she crossed them.

Nashante waited until the moon was high. Silently she rose, stepping past Mar. She walked slowly to the perimeter of the camp, where the light of the fire no longer touched. She scanned the area, looking for someplace to complete the ritual. Reaching out, she came upon a secluded clearing. Quietly she made her way there. She had to be careful not to alert Mar. If she was unable to complete her task...she didn't want to think about the consequences.

Mar slept easily, though his wards triggered and woke him. He looked to where Nashante had gone. She was not leaving, only performing some seithr ritual. He did not like the look of what she was doing, nor how it felt to his soul and mind. Running forward, he knocked her over, pinning her to the ground with magic. "What do you think you are doing?" he shouted. "This isn't right." He stood, pulling her behind him back to the camp.

Nashante fell forward at the force of his magic. She felt herself pinned beneath his magic and it infuriated her. As he drug her back to camp her mind raced with the rage she felt. "You insolent ass. Release me. You have no right! You...crusted wart on the slime of a toads ass!" She kept spewing insults and profanities at him all the way back to camp.

Mar smiled at her as she hurled insults at him. When they were back in camp, he looked at her. "Pathetic," he said. "Utterly pathetic! I have no idea why he would want you to bear his heir!" Mar shouted, kicking dirt at her and sitting down.

Nashante stopped in mid-sentence at his words. "The king wants an heir? He wants me to bear his heir?" Nashante's face grew white as all of the color drained from it. "I cannot. Not now! I won't!" She shook her head. The gravity of her situation now bore down upon her.

Mar rolled his eyes, tightening the magical hold on her. "Shut up!" he shouted. "You weren't complaining last night with me! You give him an heir, and you go on your merry way, so stop fussing like a little child!" He stood, getting rope and tying her up. "You will go to him, you will give him an heir, and you will do as I tell you until this is over!" he shouted in the ancient language, sitting back on his stump.

Nashante's eyes narrowed as she looked upon him. "Last night you did not want an heir!" His magical hold upon her tightened as she felt the ropes cut deeply into her skin. Speaking in the seithrs tongue she spat back at him. "I will not! My plans have been carefully calculated and laid out. I will not put them off now, not even for Galbatorix. There are any number of others he can have to get his heir. I have no desire for a child now or ever!" She knew that even if the King forced her, the herbs that she carried within her locket would prevent her from conceiving. She smiled as the thought reassured her that her plans would not be interrupted.
