Glory nearly fell backwards in surprise when Jason suddenly flew out of the hole she had been burying him. And she'd almost made it into his mind, too! She ceased moving the dirt around and instead remained cautious for his next attack. She felt tired; she knew she had just done the equivalent of covering a grave, which was rather hard work. Still, she did her best to remain focused as she watched for Jason's next attack. He was throwing stones at her, some huge. She was amazed that he was able to keep up the energy.
The smaller stones, she mostly worked to dodge. She allowed a few to hit her, though, which struck surprisingly hard and gave her bruises. Her main focus was on the bigger ones. She reached out with her mind and felt the essence of the rock, searching for a weak spot. Whenever she found one, she said, "Jierda," causing them to crack and break into much smaller fragments. With the right amount of force, and the right angle, she saved herself a lot of energy. Still, she felt her strength flagging. She was hoping she would just be able to keep it up long enough, having given up trying to break into Jason's mind.

Arasu threw the water shield up around Midori again as the flaming arrow flew at her. She stamped her foot against the ground several times and send a demanding thought to the dragon.
Masters, Midori said hesitantly. Normally, she would have tried to answer her Rider's question herself, but decided this was worth their explanation. My Rider wishes to understand why she must fight another to prove her skill in magic. Is not an example of skills good enough?

Tismri watched the battle taking place before her with keen interest. Both Eva and Aradan showed a vast knowledge of the ancient language, as well as dexterity in performing magic. They threw themselves into the battle full-heartedly, performing to the best of their abilities, each trying to gain the upper hand. Finally, she smiled as Aradan passed out from his overuse of magic.
"Well done, Eva," she congratulated her. "You did very well against your opponent. You have passed the exam." She turned toward Veryan, who was next to his unconscious Rider. "Veryan, when he awakens, you may inform Aradan that he has passed as well."
