Mar clung close to Kalri, knowing they would only have one shot at escaping.
Taran smiled as their combined love began to drive back Legion. His mark upon his chest grew brightly, nearly blinding. He felt his power merge with Aethelwyne's as Legion's slowly abated.

Aethelwyne felt Legion’s power failing. She had no idea that she was once again battling Kalri. As the magic of Aethelwyne and Taran’s love increased in strength and intensity, Kalri’s slowly diminished as she slowly pulled it back. She had to let them think they defeated her. Aethelwyne looked to Taran the thought crossing to his mind. “Hold tightly my darling!” She pushed one final time as the teal magic burst free of the dark magic sending Mar and Kalri hurtling back from the force of its blast. The black orb collapsed freeing everyone within it.
Kalri grasped Mar’s hand as she pulled the black magic in. ‘We have one shot. As I collapse the magic, Aethelwyne’s will overtake us in a forceful blast. I will shield us from it enough to prevent harm but we will still be thrown. I am counting on Sabonth and Harp to retrieve us in the air but we will have to appear injured.’ She released the magic but kept enough to shield them from the majority of the blast. As Aethelwyne and Taran’s combined magics hit them the force, even with Kalri’s shield sent the flying into the air. The following concussion shook everything it washed over. Sabonth dove catching Kalri within her talons as she flew with the still body of Kalri taking her away from the battle.

Taran pushed with all his might to aid Aethelwyne, their love the fuel they needed. He smiled, kissing her cheek softly. The force of the magic was staggering, knocking back everything before it. He saw Kalri and Mar picked up by their dragons and carried away. He took Aethelwyne in his arms, holding her tight to him.
Mar felt Kalri's magic protecting them slightly, but the force of Aethelwyne and Taran's power was amazing. He flew back through the air, Harp catching him just before he collided with a tree. His body went limp in the dragon's talons, exhausted and battered.

Kalri lay quietly within Sabonths embrace until they were out of sight from the riders and their dragons. ‘Now Sabonth, saddle if you will.’ Sabonth flipped Kalri into the air. She rolled and twisted landing within the saddle. She looked to Harp to check on Mar.
Aethelwyne looked to Taran as their magic overtook Kalri and Mar. She turned and took him within her embrace kissing him as the shock wave and the magic spilled over them. They were unharmed, protected by the magic of their children as they held each other.

Taran smiled, holding tight to Aethelwyne. They had defeated one of the most powerful enemies they would ever face, and all because of their love.
Mar flipped up into the saddle, looking over at Kalri. He nodded at her, frowning. Their job just got a lot more difficult.

Kalri motioned to Mar to land below in a clearing. She dismounted Sabonth and walked to the shade of a nearby tree. “Now what? As long as they are together we cannot succeed.” She picked at pebbles upon the ground, throwing them in her disgust. She knew that with Legion she could have defeated Aethelwyne but she would have killed them all in the process. She turned to look at Mar. “Why didn’t you leave when I told you? I could have destroyed them.”

Aethelwyne held tightly to Taran, still kissing him. She pulled back to look at his smiling face. “Our love is truly strong enough to withstand any threat!” She smiled, her happiness and love for him spilling forth from her as her mark glowed brightly upon her chest.

Elyria felt the approaching wave as she held out her hand. “Skolir!” She spoke the word just as the wave came upon her. After it had passed she looked around for Caleb. She hadn’t heard anything from him for a while but was caught within Kalri’s magic and couldn’t get to him. She turned and upon seeing him ran to take him within her embrace.

Taran smiled, his mark growing brighter than ever.
"I love you," he said, pulling her lips to his as he kissed her passionately.
Mar sat on the ground, watching Kalri.
"Because," he said after a moment. "Because I just couldn't. I just couldn't abandon you like that. I didn't when you were a child, and I'm not going to start now."
