OOC: the empire is a popular place, no? lol. Okay, who's ready for a little VC drama? Those who have read our little story on Random Buzzers will probably guess where I'm gonna go with this. lol. Jeriah was being marched roughly through the streets of Uru'baen, guarded by Imperial soldiers to the palace, to be brought before Galbatorix. She could sense that they were congradulating themselves on caturing one of the Varden, and a Rider, no less. The poor fools didn't realize that if she wanted, she could at the moment kill them all, or transport herself through magic to the cave where Oranthor was hidden, or escape from them in a number of different ways. She was here of her own free will. She was intentionally captured. No one else knew why she was here. Lady Nasuade still believed she was out searching for Lathem, while she believed he thought she was returning to Surda. Not even Oranthor knew why she was there, though he was the only one who knew she was there. She had hidden her true intentions from them all, because she knew that if she told them, they would try to convince her otherwise. She could not allow that. Jeriah paused slightly when the soldiers finally reached the door of the palace. Did she really want to do this? Want to? No. Have to? Yes. Elva said there would be a price. There is no other way. The soldiers roughly shoved her through the door and led her through the palace. Finally, they reacked the throne room, no doubt eager to show off their prize to their king. The first thing Jeriah noticed was a huge black dragon staring at her. There was saddness and misery in his eyes. Jeriah knew Shuikan was a prisoner and a slave of Galbatorix, not having any choice in what he did. Like Lathem...But that would change for her love now. She turned to face the man who called himself king. "I have come to bargain for the life of one of your servants," she told him, looking straight into his mad eyes with unwavering intensity.

Taran flew through the land atop Adurthil, his mighty teal colored dragon. His armor shone in the sun, a beacon of hope in the darkness of evil.
****** Mar watched from the shadows as a woman was shoved through the throne room doors, obviously one of the Varden. Listening intently as she made her request, Mar positioned himself to intervene should the situation prove more...hostile than was proper before the King.

Kalri listened behind the tapestry as she had done so many times before. Her father's wards protecting her from discovery. One day she would be free and when that day came all of Alagaesia had better watch out! She listened intently as the girl spoke to her father. The mist of her black magic writhing up and down her arms. She heard her father's words in her mind 'Kalri! You must learn to control that temper of yours.' She released the magic mastering herself. An evil smile played upon her face. 'Maybe Daddy will let me have this one to play with.' The thought of a new toy to practice her magic on brought the golden fires to light in her eyes.

OOC: well, I'm glad to see others like my thread. Now, it's time for the king to decided whether or not to just kill me right now, hear what I have to say and then kill me, or torture me for a long time, or give me a long humiliating death before the entire city of Uru'baen. lol, it's up to Trinn. lol

Far away, in Surda, Elva stood suddenly. There was something different in her usual feelings of the misery around her. Several differences, actually. One was that it was obviously far away. She had never felt anyone's misfortune outside of a twelve mile radius from the point where she stood, yet she felt in her heart that this person was deep into Empire territory, hundreds of leagues away. Another was that...this person knew that misfortune was about to fall on her, yet she was willingly walking into it. It didn't make any sense. Elva focused hard on this person. Though she couldn't sense why this was being done, she knew now who it was. With that sudden knowledge, she ran through the castle as fast as her small legs could carry her. In ten minutes, she found Elaine. "Scry her!" Elva screamed, "You were close to her, you trained her! Scry her now! Scry Jeriah!"

OOC: Hmmm. So many choices. lol
Galbatorix's eyes gleamed brightly, excited that he had a varden rider in his midst. He looked at the guards, then raised a hand. "Thank you for bringing her to me. Now, if you will stand back." Crossing his legs, he looked at Jeriah with interest, wondering what exactly it was that brought her here. Didn't the innocent little varden know that he didn't bargain? Still, he was curious. "Fine, little rat. Who is it that you've come to me for?" Kalri, what should be her fate? he asked of his daughter, hidden behind a large tapestry. ~~~~
Walking aimlessy through the halls of Abernon castle, Elaine sighed. Such a boring day. Her light armor clinked as she made her way to the courtyard Eridor rested in. Servants and nobles alike bowed to her as she passed, muttering, "Argetlam" and other titles a rider possessed. Respectfully, Elaine inclined her head back. As she rounded a corner, she saw Elva running towards her. The cursed girls' voice was frantic, and it struck an icy fear into her heart. What had happened to Jeriah? "I'll ask why later." She told Elva. "Come on, I need something reflective." Anxious, Elaine broke into a run and turned into the first room she came to. The large mirror in the corner of the spare room would work perfectly. Placing her gedwey ignasia on the smooth glass, she muttered words under her breath, and the refection of her face was swept away. In it's place was Jeriah, looking ahead steadfastly. But at what? Her head was held high, her back straight. She seemed determined. And then, Jeriah spoke. "Elva, where is she! Who is she making this bargain with!" Elaine's voice rang with anxiety.

Feels like another in love daddy. What is it with all these people in love? Doesn't anyone just lust anymore? Much less messy than love. Perhaps if she swears to you on the life of her love? You control him. Use her love for him to do your will. If she breaks her vow, his life is forfeit. Oh, and I think you should torture her some.

Jeriah did not remove her gaze from Galbatorix's eyes. She delved deeply into them, as if she wished to see all the way into his very soul. "Nearly a year ago, a man, Lathem by name, fought his way in here past dozens of your soldiers. He swore himself to you, vowing that he would die before betraying you. For a price, I ask that you release him from this promise. Free him from his obligation to you. "In return for his freedom, I am willing to give myself up. I will stay here. Since I will never betray the Varden, you will have but one choice. Free Lathem, and you will kill me. "However, I will not die until you have freed him. No matter what you do to me, I will refuse to die until he is free. That is my request. Will you honor it?" Jeriah sensed others coming into the room to see what was going on, but she did not turn her gaze and did not waver. Any and everyone who saw her could not help but be moved nearly to tears by her courage. Here she stood, knowing that she would never leave this room alive, straight and tall, with all the grace and dignity and even the beauty of a princess, all the honor and loyalty of a soldier, and most of all, all her love for Lathem shining out of her eyes. This was her sacrifice, and she would pay it gladly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Marola had entered the room with a group of others. They had heard that one of the Varden Riders had been captured. She didn't believe it at first, but there she stood. Marola didn't know what she expected, but not this. This woman, this girl, was standing there, making a most preposterous request, defiantly staring at the king. Marola eagerly waited to see what the king would say. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Elva listened to what Jeriah was saying. She was horrified when she understood what the young Rider was saying, and to whom she was addressing. She turned to Elaine with fear in her eyes. "She's standing before Galbatorix himself!"

After a moment of silence, Galbatorix suddenly laughed, an evil, booming sound while he clapped his hands. The sound echoed away slowly. "What an excelent little speech. So moving." With a finger, he pretended to wipe away a fake tear. "Well, you are one lovsick girl, that is clear. I mean, to die for him!" He shook his head in wonder. He found it amazing that the girl thought she could stand up to him, King Galbatorix. "You know, I think I would like to keep you both." He grinned malignly. ~~~~
"With Galbatorix!" Elaine said with horror. What did Jeriah think she was doing!? She knew that the young rider was searching for Lathem, but to actually go to Galbatorix! "I have to go to her, get her out of there!"

Jeriah stared, unmoved by the man's insult. She watched his eyes, gazing into his madness. "You will have nothing to gain by keeping me. I will refuse to die until you release him, and if you just keep me in a cell, I will be useless, and annoying prisoner just left there and needed to be delt with. Torture me if you wish. You will get no secrets of the Varden from me. I will never serve you. There ultimately is one option. If you will not honor my request, I will take matters into my own hands." She waited for the false king's response. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Elva vigorously shook her head at Elaine. "No! You can't face Galbatorix alone! He will kill you, or torture you for the Varden's secrets! We cannot afford to lose you." She turned to face the mirror. Looking into Jeriah's steadfast gaze, she said, "She knows what she is doing. Some form of misfortune is about to fall on her, heavily, and she chooses to remain. I don't understand it, but she must have her reasons."

Galbatorix shrugged. He wasn't really in the mood for any drama. "Fine, if you swear your complete alegiance to me in the ancient language, then I will free you're dearest." He looked at her with honest eyes. Of course, he was anything but honest. He just hoped this rider was dumb enough to swear to him. If she did, he would have both her and Lathem. ~~~~
Frustrated, Elaine stared back at the mirror. At any moment, Jeriah might perish. "We can't do nothing! I can't stand here and watch her die!" Bringing her hands to her head, Elaine began pacing around the room, trying to think of a plan.

Jeriah shook her head. She may be young, but she was no fool. "I have already said I will never betray the Varden. I have named my price. Free Lathem, then do with me as you wish." She stared at him. She was determined, and nothing would sway her. She felt the ring at her left ring finger. Lathem had made it for her by magic the day he asked her to marry him. She had made one just like it for him. A golden band, with a pure, clear diamond in it. On either side of the diamond were an amethyst and a citrine. Made with love and eagerly awaiting the day of their marriage. Jeriah felt a little sad, knowing now that that day would never come. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Elva just watched Elaine sadly. "If you go, you will die or be captured. Jeriah will die anyway. She is making her sacrifice. The best thing to do now would be to tell Nasuada. She needs to know.

Kalri sat upon the chaisse lounge, behind the wards of her father. Anger flooding throughout her. How dare this girl speak to her Father with such impudence. The mist of her black magic was snaking around her as the golden fire lit in her eyes. She was trying hard to control the magic as the rage was building inside her.

Kalri, since you have been so good, I think I will give this girl to you. Since I am an honorable man, I will free this Lathem. He is too broken to be of any use to the varden anyways. Then, I will allow you to play with this rider as you wish. An evil smile alit on Galbatorix's lips at the thought. The rider would curse her foolishness for ever trying to bargain with him. "Fine, foolish rider. I will grant your wish. But after Kalri is through with you, you will rue the day." He looked to the guards. "Leave me! Bring back the boy rider Lathem![/i]
