Tia stood in line with the other five 15-year-olds in Du Weldenvarden. Her chance was almost here. Her chance for a dragon egg to hatch. Her chance to become a Rider! Tia held her breath as the mahgony egg was proffered to the elfen boy next to her. He reached out to touch the shell. Tia was going purple by now. Nothing happened. The boy looked away, dissapointed. Tia was last in line. The elf with the mahgony brown dragon egg offered it to her. She reached out. Her hand was inches away. The egg began to wobble in the elf's hands. Tia grinned. It chose her! She placed her hand on the egg and it began to crack. The elf placed it gently on the ground and Tia crouch in front of it. A small brown head poked out and sniffed her hand. She laughed and the elves of Elesmira cheered! Anew rider. Tia felt an itching as the gwedy ignasia was burned into her palm. Tia stood, the little brown hatchling curled against her arm. She smiled down at it. BOOM! The ground shook, knocking everyone to the ground. The voice of Murtagh echoed through the clearing. "Galbatorix has ways of knowing when a new rider is made! You will come with us!" Thorn dove down and carried Tia and her new dragon with them!

Jaygon saw this and raced for Turma. Turma into the sky now! he shouted with his mind as he jumped up onto her back. Turma took to the air to the elves bellow it looked as though a mountain had grown wings. We have seen a lot Turma, but nothing so cowardly as this! as Jaygon finished that thought Turma gave a massive roared that seemed to rock the heavens.
Turma could see that they were gaining on them. Thorn still being much smaller than Turma and still inexperienced with his overly matured body, showed that Turma held the true advantage. But Turma began to wonder if Jaygon would be up to another fight. It had certainly been a long time since their last one.
"Stop right there Thorn and Murtagh!" Jaygon's voice rang and echoed through the air with such power the air seemed to shake. The distinct words of the ancient language roled off his tongue that would hold Thorn and Murtagh in place so that he could rescue the new rider.

Tia screemed and kicked, trying to keep hold of the little brown dragon that was slipping, slipping...

Suddenly Jaygon was under neath them. Flying... with his own wings. But before he gave Tia a chance to think he placed his hands underneath the slipping hatchling and gently pushed it back into her hands. "Easy now. I'm going to get you out of Thorn's claws and get you Turma's back, but you must hang on very tightly. You got that?" Jaygon asked.

Tia nodded, scared for her life. "Hang in there little dragon"she whispered to the brown bundle now held firmly in her hand."

Jaygon hit a pressure point in Thorn's paw causing him to release Tia. Jaygon caught her and flew back to Turma setting her down on Turma's back before hiding his wings once again in the folds of his clothing. Without Jaygon needing to say anything Turma turned about and headed back for the area where the egg was presented. Once they were far enough away Jaygon released his spell on Thorn and Murtagh. "Are you alright young one?" he spoke with concern. "Are you both alright?"

"I think so, not too sure about the little one though" Tia was unusually calm about what had happened. Well, she thought, I saw worse living with the Shrggs.

"Well we'll fly over the clearing to show everyone your alright then we'll find you a place to rest for a while. How does that sound?" he asked. As they flew over the clearing Jaygon signaled to one of the elves that Tia was safe and Turma continued to fly on.

Tia gazed with open eyes at the trees below. "So this is what feels like to fly!" She yelled over the roar of wind as they twisted and turned higher and higher.

Jaygon smiled as he heard Tia. "Turma," he yelled over the wind," take us home." Turma nodded and started to fly towards a mountain upon which a strange looking structure sat. "Young one you have been chosen, you are very lucky indeed. It is however very unfortunate that you have been chosen in such a time as this."

Tia seemed puzzled about something, but shook her head and her expression cleared. "I know absolutely nothing about being a rider, I never learnt with the others."

"That is not a problem for the only instruction you need right now is how to hone your instincts. For your instincts will allow you not only great feats in battle, but also with magic. Your instincts will also be what binds you to your dragon Young Rider," Jaygon said as Turma landed in what seemed to be a courtyard. Jaygon immediately jumped off her back and landed on the ground. "This is where you will stay and be trained until you feel ready to go out to Alagaesia as a Rider," Jaygon motioned for Tia to come down from Turma's back. Turma lay down so the distance to the ground would be less of a drop for Tia.

Sliding down the great white dragon's back, Tia prattled on about the excitement of being chosen. She wasn't normally very talkative, but she was very nurvous. "Thank you for comeing after us."

"Think nothing of it," Jaygon chuckled. "I can tell you're nervous, so today all I ask is that you explore this ancient training ground. You can read can't you?" he asked. Jaygon began to boil some water in which he placed some herbs and other strange objects. He felt snow hit his face as a small bit of snow began to fall. "Quite beautiful isn't it? I like to think of snow as showing us the light, beauty, and purity of this world."

Tia nodded. "Yes it is beautiful. The dwarves taught me to read and write." She wandered around a little, cradeling the little brown dragon to her chest. "But Murtagh and Galbatorix can tell when a rider is made now! What will happen to the others?"
