He smiled again. He felt strange, becoming so comfortable with one so dangerous as her. He knew she was capable of great evil, and good, but he felt safe. He turned to see her features changed radically. Her hair no longer the pure white it once was, but a darkest black. And her eyes no longer the mesmerizing violet, but a soft blue. "Very good, Aethelwyne. But which is your true face?" Taran teased again, directing her to follow beside him back to the camp.

"Ah my new found friend. You have seen my true face just as you saw my sacred ritual. Count yourself in the very few...who have seen either of them and lived." She smiled warmly allowing him to lead her to the camp. She left her sword with Edoc'sil and bade him stay back out of site of the others. As they walked she pulled on the silver bracelts that spanned the length of her forearms, encompassing their width. She placed the silver bands on her ring fingers with the chain intact with the bracelets. 'If you're not worried about anything why are you wearing those?' the dragon asked her slyly. 'Ah my friend. I am not worried but also I am not so stupid as to go anywhere unarmed.'

Taran noticed she brought no sword, yet she had strangely ornate bracelets. A small shiver went down his spine as she said no one had seen her true face and lived, though he quickly mastered himself. 'I am also dangerous,' he told himself. "Well, I hope to remain among those that live," he smiled at her, trying to be kind and warm as he showed her to the camp, though he was sure she knew exactly where it was.

Aethelwyne sensed that she had made him ill at ease. Placing her hand softly on his shoulder she touched his mind. 'My new found friend you have nothing to fear from me. You had a chance to kill me whilst I was unarmed in the pool but chose not to. You exhibit honor and I respect that.' She walked with him across the sand.

Taran felt her touch his mind. He brought up his barriers, to keep her from seeing anything that he felt she shouldn't, though he left some things about his past open. She spoke to him, saying he had nothing to fear from her. He relaxed, turning to look her in the eyes. "You know, I think you looked better the other way," he told her with a slight smile, again feeling more comfortable with her.

His words brought a smile to her lips and caused her gaze to shift away. Suddenly she didn't want to go to the tent amongst the others. She wanted to find out more about this man who had caught her off guard. He wasn't like most of the men she dealt with. She sensed a dangerousness in him but more than that was a fairness. A sense of honor she didn't feel from most men. Waving her hand in front of her face again her hair changed back to white and her eyes to violet. She looked up at him again and said, "I am afraid that if this is the face you wish to see then we shall have to postpone our trip to the camp. You I will allow to see my true face. The others I cannot."

Taran stopped abruptly, looking at Aethelwyne in her true guise. He looked away at the camp, not sure what to do. He wanted to know more about this woman, yet he was afraid. He was both afraid and intrigued. She could have killed him when they started walking, or even back at the pool, but she had not. He stared up at the stars for a moment, then closed his eyes in thought. Finally, he opened them to looke again at Aethelwyne, her violet eyes mysterious in the dark night. "The call is yours. If you wish to continue to our camp, or to return to yours, it is entirely up to you. You are a being that can do as you wish, I cannot dictate what it is you are to do." Taran continued to look into her eyes, waiting for her decision.

"Would you care to... I mean do you want to..." She dropped her gaze again and stopped walking. "I kind of wondered if you might like to walk with me and talk awhile. I don't get a chance to talk to people to often...in my line of work." She waited for him to answer.

Taran smiled and put his hand on her shoulder. "I would love to. It would be nice to just talk to someone for a change, about normal things at least," he said with a laugh.

Her violet eyes sparkled in the moonlight as she looked at him pleased. "Where are you from? Do you come here often? What's a nice guy like you doing in a place like this?" Smiling she added "No seriously, where are you from?"

Taran laughed loudly, then smiled heartedly at her. "Well, I'm from all over. I was born in Ellesmera, and grew up all around. My parents weren't there cause...let's not get into that now. I want to keep it happy," he said, sadness written on his face before he could change it. "I do come through here fairly often, passing through from Du Weldenvarden to the Boars and vise versa. That sort of explains why I'm here, though I wouldn't call me a nice guy. What about you? Where are you from?"

"Well I don't know how to answer that. I have been with the coven since I can remember though I am not of their blood. I don't remember my parents and have never thought to find out about them. All I know is that my father was human and my mother an elf." She looked out across the desert. "Edoc'sil and I are on respite for a while. He likes the desert so we came here. I have no where to go at the moment." She glanced quickly at him.

Taran could feel sadness, yet resolve, mixed with many emotions emanating from her. He put his hand on her shoulder, as if to comfort her. For a moment, he forgot that she was a trained assassin, and he no longer cared. "I can see how that must be difficult to bear, though there is strength in you. I can feel your resolve, and that should give you hope. You have a unique heritage, and a unique experience in life. Let's walk and talk. I like to walk across the sands sometimes, it just seems..peaceful. Now listen to me! I'm preaching like some sage!" he laughed. "Well, tell me more about yourself, anything you can think of."

Nerasa couldn't stand just sitting here for taran to return and it only had been a little while too. She got up and fallowed silently but far away and noticed a young women about 17 years of age and she was talking to taran like they were old friends which was a little odd. She fallowed but keept a good distance and she could barely hear what they were saying.

His touch on her shoulder made her heart quicken. For once she felt different. She didn't feel hard and cold but like she was waking up from a long sleep. 'Strange. How can I talk to him so easily.' "I like horses. Before I met Edoc'sil I rode for days throughout the spine. I haven't ridden in such a long time. Not since I was a child. Most of my journey is with Edoc'sil and well the rest is on foot." She was enjoying his company in the chill of the desert night air under the light of the full moon.
