Ferlan took the ring from Nora and held it. Then he got an idea. He didn't care if they weren't ready for this yet. It really couldn't hurt to ask. Right then and there, in front of Taran and Aethelwyne, Ferlan got down on one knee and held the ring back to Eli.
"Eli, I love you. I clawed my way out of darkness for you. Elianora...will you marry me?"

Aethelwyne nodded greeting to Ferlan and turning to the group invited them all inside Sanctuary. "I am sorry we have only just arrived back but Taran can show you to a room where you can put your things." She looked to Taran smiling. "After you have settled we shall eat and talk."

Taran's jaw dropped as Ferlan knelt and purposed to Elianora, then he smiled.
"In a moment, love," he told Aethelwyne. "First I have to see this."

Elianora felt a little numb, and shocked as Ferlan proposed. Her heart pounded too loudly to here anything but what Ferlan was saying. Marry him? she said to Soranai. He wants me to marry him?
Soranai hummed deep in her throat. Go on, dear one. Say yes!
"Yes," Eli whispered. "Yes! I will marry your Ferlan." Fethrfricai sang joyfully to the setting sun, happy images being sent all around.
Elianora knelt in front of Ferlan and kissed him, not caring that the ring wasn't even on yet. She put her arms around his neck and embraced. him. Blinking away happy tears she said, "I am so happy!"

As Nora kissed him, Ferlan placed the ring on her left ring finger, then gently wiped the tears from her eyes, his own beginning to fall.
"I'm so happy, too, Nora," her whispered, then kissed her again, still kneeling there on the ground as Fethrfricai twittered a happy song. Ferlan then stood and pulled Nora to her feet as well and embraced her.

Elianora squeezed Ferlan once before letting him go. She stood, one arm wrapped around his waist, her head on his shoulder. "Forgive me, Aethelwyne and Taran. What were you saying?"
Soranai nudged her gently in the back. I am so happy for you Eli! Any other and I would not have been lenient.
Eli laughed through the link. I'm glad you agree.

Aethelwyne watched and as Eli accepted her smile grew wide upon her face. "Well I would say a celebration dinner is in order. Taran, be sure to give them the room furthest down the hall." She looked slyly at him as she congratulated Eli and Ferlan.

Elianora declined the room, saying, "I still have my things in a room already. And I don't think Ferlan and I should sleep together until after we're married. But dinner sounds good."

Taran grinned, leading the two lovers to their room. It was at the end of the hall, alone and private.

Elianora rolled her eyes at Taran behind his back as he left. She didn't accompany Ferlan and Fethrfricai into their room, but kissed Ferlan, stroked Fethr, and returned to hers. Soranai was waiting for her there, curled up on her cushions.
With a happy sigh, Elianora sat by Sora, leaning against her scaly side. She rotated the ring on her finger, filled with rapture. "Oh Soranai, I am so glad that Ferlan is safe now," she said.
As I am, for it makes you happy, Soranai responded, humming. Her Pale blue eyes sparkled with happiness.

Ferlan let out a happy sigh at Eli walked down the hall, then went into the room. Fethrfricai flew from his shoulder and landed on a nearby bedpost.
Well, my feathered friend, what do you think? Now you're going to have to share me with another woman.
You silly elf! I'm very happy for you and Nora! the bird replied.
Fricai, something has bothering me ever since I rescued her.

I know I lost control when Salian made me angry...it nearly cost him his life.
Yes, but you pulled youself back, showing that you have learned control.
But I only did it because I was endangering Nora. If she hadn't been there...When we stopped fighting Galbatorix and I quit fighting altogether, I vowed I would never again pick up a weapon to harm another. I didn't want to kill anyone ever again. But if Eli hadn't been there today and she wouldn't have been in danger, I think I would gladly have killed that man.
It it a natural reaction, Ferlan. You wanted to strike back and get Nora back.
Perhaps, but that doesn't make me feel any better, he said, trying not to dwell in the feelings.

After waiting with Soranai for awhile, Elianora felt the urge to walk around and stretch. She hugged Soranai, and then got up and left the room, telling her dragon that she would be back sometime after dinner, she thought. She walked down the hall to Ferlan's room and knocked on the door. "May I come in?"

Ferlan smiled from where he sat on the bed, forgetting about his troubled thoughts at the sound of Eli's voice. Using magic, he opened the door as he stood.
"Of course you can come in, love," he told her, quickly finding two chair for them to sit in.
