Dylan gazed at Sonia with all the compassion and sincerity he possessed. She had every right to be angry, to want vengeance for the life that was stolen from her, but despite it all, Dylan knew that this way was not the answer. He hid the shiver that snaked down his spine from the cold tone she used. This was not her; how he would give anything to hear that playful voice of her's again. To see her smile. No, her humanity wasn't taken, no matter how much she believed it. There was good in her, and Dylan wanted to help her see that. "You're right; he does deserve to die, but not this way, Sonia. You can't take his life with hatred in your heart. I know that you've experienced terrible things, and you have every right to take his life, but Sonia," Dylan spoke to her softly, but firmly as he approached her slowly, "will this truly ease your suffering? You can't end hatred with hatred, it will only spread further and further until it consumes you. Let go of your hate. Please, Sonia, even though we've only been friends for a little while, I've sensed good in you; your humanity isn't gone, but if you go through with this, if you kill him, then you're only proving to this man that he still controls you." He glanced at Jerome, a hint of disgust in his eyes, but when he glanced back at Sonia, his eyes were pleading. "You are better than him! Please, let go of your hate." He maneuvered himself so that he was standing in front of her, his back to Jerome as he purposely shielded her from him or him from her; he would do whatever it took to make sure that Jerome was not killed by her hand. "Let me help you, Sonia. Let me take your burden. Take your hate upon me, let me bear your burden so that you can find your peace." His determined eyes bore into her's. "Hit me until the hate is gone." He presented his body to her, willing to take on her hate to free her.

Sonia stared at Dylan as he pleaded with her. She couldn't understand; after everything she had shared with him, how could he ask her to spare this man's life? Hurt, confusion, and anger crossed her expression. He was asking her to hurt him? She would never choose to do such a thing. She glanced past Dylan to the pathetic form of Jerome, seeing her former master helpless before her. Her eyes softened for one instant as he met her gaze with Dylan's again. But then they grew cold as ice. "I would beat you until you died from it, and still my hatred for this man would consume my heart," she told him. Her hand formed into a fist, which she sent flying right into Dylan's face as an angry tear fell down.

Dylan managed a small smile. "You'd be surprise on how much I can take." His keen eyes spotted Sonia's clenched fist and immediately tensed in preparation for the hit. What came next surprised him: Sonia was stronger than he expected. His vision went white as his jaw flew to the side. Dylan stumbled backward, but held his senses as he staggered back to a stand in front of Sonia. She had a lot of anger in her, and she needed to get it all out, and he was willing to be her target, if only to save her from killing in cold blood. "You hit like a girl." He goaded her, trying to keep her attention on him rather than the worthless man behind him. "Come on Sonia, hit me!" He told her, thin blood trickling from a cut on the inside of his bottom lip.

Sonia was still confused as she threw another punch at Dylan, her fist aimed for his gut. After it landed, she stepped back and just stared at him. "Why, Dylan?" she asked. "You've suffered as much as I. Why are you willing to take on more undeserved pain for this man's sins?" She glanced down at her fist, noting her now bloody knuckles. "It's not your blood, pain and death I crave. So why?"

Dylan let out a groan as he doubled over. "Wow...that definitely didn't feel like a girl's punch." He muttered as he staggered back up to stand. He stumbled for a moment as he regained his balance, his eyes blinking as they also regained their focus. "That's just it, Sonia. They are his sins. Not yours. Let justice deal with him." His breathing was a bit ragged, but still strong as he spoke to Sonia. "But like I said, let me take on your burden...you've endured so much...I...don't want you to suffer anymore, and I know, if you take this rodent's life, you're going to suffer. I don't want that for you. You deserve a peaceful and happy life, Sonia. Please...just let go of your pain and hatred. Relieve it on me. Hit me." Dylan told her, his voice strong and bold as he explained his reasons to her.

Sonia stared at Dylan, her heart confused and aching. Her eyes drifted back to Jerome, the man she hated with every fiber of her being. She wanted to kill him so much, she could feel her heartbeat throughout her entire body. Dylan might be right; it would only cause her suffering. She shook her head. "I can't take it out on you, Dylan," she told him, turning away. "You deserve happiness and peace more than I do. But...why should I allow him to live? Do you honestly expect me to leave this room while he is still breathing? Allow him another chance to do to someone what he has done to me?"

Dylan mustered out a smile through his bloodly lip. "That's the funny thing about forgiveness, Sonia. Its the hardest thing you will ever do, but it will grant the most peaceful and happy feeling than you will ever image. Let go of this burden you hold. Don't let him continue to ruin your life by infecting you with his stains. Leave him be, and let justice deal with him." He advised her. "I'm not asking you to walk away, I only ask that you let the Gods deal with him, and trust that he will not harm anyone else." Dylan than darted a threatening eye at Jerome. "Right? Do you swear never to inflict any one pain again, man? Or would I have to continue the punishment that you so rightly deserve?" Dylan's eyes were dark and menacing as he gazed over at the tied up man.

Sonia glared at Dylan as he spoke. His words were impossible; he didn't understand anything about her. "If any gods exist, they care nothing for me," she spat, angrily. "Otherwise, they wouldn't have let me fall into the hands of monsters." Her eyes turned to her former master, now limp and ragged, with dislocated shoulders and lightly scorched skin from the proximity with which she had held her torch. "I swear, if you spare me, I'll never own another slave again," he said, weeping. Sonia's eyes were like fire; that was a lie, more blantant than anything ever said before. She wanted to take his head right then. But she turned again to face Dylan. "Fine," she said, her voice furious. "I won't kill him. Let's go, Dylan." "Thank you, Sonia!" Jerome cried out. She didn't even glance his way as she guided her friend outside. Then the bound man spoke again. "Wait...can you at least let me go?" Sonia paused, staring straight at the door in front of her. "If you can get out of there alive, perhaps your life was worth sparing," she said coldly before shutting the door behind her.

Dylan was silent as Sonia spoke her hate. A well of pity and compassion filled him. Perhaps she had every right to enact her revenge, but at what cost? He knew the pain of hate, and she didn't deserve that - she deserved happiness and the only way she could obtain that was to move on and forgive. He hoped some day she would understand why he stopped her from killing this fiend. Dylan slowly followed Sonia out, but not before muttering a death threat to Jerome. "Be warned, pig. I didn't spare your life for you; if I hear that you are mistreating others, I swear upon my family, that I will personally maim you to the point of disfiguration; death is too good for you." He hissed in a low whisper as he passed the injured man and out of the cellar.
After he exited the dank room, Dylan awaited his friend. He glanced at her as she closed the door on Jerome. He studied Sonia for a moment. "Do you really believe that no one cares for you?" He asked her quietly, recalling her words.

Sonia didn't meet Dylan's eyes as she left the cellar, his question beating against her mind. "Yes, I believe that," she told him. "Anyone who might have ever cared about me is dead. And it might be better that way. If no one cares, then I don't have to worry about hurting them." She started walking away, but then it struck her that she had nowhere to go. The whole world was hers, but what would she do? She decided she would figure it out along the way.

Dylan followed closely behind Sonia. He wiped the blood from his lips as he thought about her response. As a former slave, Dylan could relate somewhat to what she was feeling. All that anger bottled up in a person's heart was relatively the mask that was placed to hide the tremondous pain and hurt. It was an unbearable feeling; like being sucked into a maelstorm. He mentally sighed. He had felt that once. He had wanted to kill the man who had murdered his family and friends before his eyes and who had imprisoned him for so long. He could still feel the harsh thrashing of the leather whip that struck his back when a new week began. The young freedom fighter would forever bare those scars, but thankfully, he would not bare the emotional ones. If it wasn't for Gladia Celesti, Dylan knew that he would have been consumed by his hatred for everyone. The tribe made him feel like he was loved and despite all that he went through, that there was always hope for happiness. That was what Dylan clung to each day. Now, he only hoped that Sonia could find her own solace. He glanced over at her as she walked in front of him; seemingly with no direction. "I care, Sonia." He whispered to her as he stopped in his tracks. "We may not know one another for very long, but I do care about you Sonia." He watched her attentively. "And I rather know that people care for me than to wander the world alone."
