Character's name: Viola
Character's age: 18
Character's attitude: Viola is cunning and manipulative. She knows how to get what she wants, and has very little inhibition. She gives off an air of innocence, and often appears to be quite an airhead. She is a lot smarter than most people give her credit for. She loves animals, more than she loves humans.
Character's Race: human
Character's appearance:
Viola is a blonde, blue-eyed beauty. She wears whatever is provided for her, although her favorite color is purple.
Character's allegiance: Neutral
Weapons: A dagger she stole from a house that neighbored the orphanage where she grew up.
History:
Viola refuses to speak of her history from before she was two, but whatever occurred has vastly shaped her personality and moral choices. She was found by Elaine, abandoned in Uru'baen after the final battle against Galbatorix. Her clothes were fine, but ragged, suggesting that her parents had been wealthy but either lost her or left her. She refused to speak to the Rider; it took nearly two years for her to begin to say anything. She still refuses to speak of her past from before she was found, though she obviously remembers what happened.
She, along with a number of other children, were taken in by Elaine and given a home. Viola grew up with the best life the Rider could offer, and was taught the meaning of honor and justice. However, such concepts seemed a joke to her. She abided by the rules in order to keep a place to stay, but openly mocked them when Elaine and Eridor weren't around. The reason for her bitterness always remained a mystery.
When she was sixteen, she left Elaine's home, finally fed up with everything. She just ran off in the middle of the night, broke into a neighboring house and stole money and a dagger, and went on her merry way. Since then, she's been trying to find some meaning to her life. She often lives and works in various towns, stealing from her employers behind their backs and openly manipulating them into giving her special favors. She currently lives in Dras-Leona as a seamstress.
Role Play Sample:
Viola stepped out of the shop, locking the door behind her. A pocketful of coins were jangling in her coinpurse, liberated from her employer. Not stolen, really. There was no way to sneak money past Janice unnoticed. Viola had simply asked for some extra, in order to buy a gift for a friend, with every promise of repayment. Janice believed her, of course. She could never believe Viola would have the mind to make up any sort of lie.
The girl skipped along through the town, singing to herself and earning some stares. She poked her head inside a pastry shop moments before the owner was going to close.
"Excuse me," she called in. The owner looked up, surprised and mildly annoyed.
"I'm sorry, young lass, I'm closing up shop now."
"But the door was open," Viola stated, pointing back at the open shop door. The owner sighed; the girl had a point.
"Very well, what can I get for you?"
"I need some sweets," Viola said with a wide grin. The man waited another moment for more specifics.
"Anything in particular?" he asked. Viola pointed.
"I need a lot. It's for my friend, she's sick and I thought this might cheer her up. And I need enough for me, too, because she would feel bad if she were the only one eating them." The owner of the shop sighed and began picking pastries out at random.
"That will be 40 coins," he told her gruffly. Viola cried out in sorrow as she pulled her day's wages out of her purse--her second one.
"B-but I only have twenty," she said, sniffling. The man hesitated, and Viola looked up at him out of desperation. Well...the girl was getting them to share with a sick friend.
"All right, I'll let you have them this time. Just don't think you'll always get this good a deal." Viola smiled.
"Oh, thaaaaaank yoooooou!!!!" she told him, giving him a big hug before gathering up her food, setting ten coins on the counter, and leaving.
