History: Lycus was born in the outskirts of Du Weldenvarden to a well established Elven parents. In his youth, Lycus was a bit rebellious, as he preferred to be isolated and learn the art of war, as he grew up during the Fall of the Riders. At an early age of 75, Lycus grew to be a master weapons master and magician, excelling over many of his peers; his motivation was always to join the war and prove himself the best warrior. He was a bit arrogant as he grew, but over time, he learned humility, though his thirst for a fight never ceased. Lycus would travel the world in search of a great fight, be it human, urgal, or dwarf - even beasts he would challenge.
As the war ended with Eragon slaying Galbatorix and Queen Arya ascending to the thrown, Lycus retreated back into his wanderlust, seeking any worthy fight he could find. He even participated in the Games that Eragon and the rest of the leaders of Alagaesia created for the races to gather to prove themselves. It was this wanderlust that led him to a newly formed Shade Rider.
Lycus was wandering along the Beor Mountains, seeking the rare Fanghur to fight and kill. However, during this exploit, he had indeed found the creature he sought, but was not met with one, but three. He had fought bravely and even managed to wound them, but in the end, Lycus was defeated. And if not for sheer luck of him falling down a cliff, he would have been the Fanghurs next meal.
Incredibly wounded from not only the fall, but from the teeth, fangs, and talons of the Fanghur, Lycus believed his death was nigh. However, a Shade had appeared to him then, and in desperation - depite his elven belief to kill a wounded animal to save it pain - Lycus begged the Shade to save him, and in return, he will forever be loyal to only her as he feared death and would rather live than face an unknown future beyond this world.
To his amazement, the Shade agreed and to his word, Lycus remained faithful and loyal to Katriana the Shade Rider of Vanilor, even so far as giving her his true name so that she may have utter and complete control over him. He is the first of her recruits, and the only one that has never been seen except by Katriana and Vanilor, as he remains invisible to protect her and shields his presence with magic, but is always ever by Katriana's side. Loyal to the end, Lycus will ensure that Katriana will always be safe, even though he knows quite well she is capable of protecting herself.
Role Play Sample: It was the thrill of the chase and the feel of the blade against flesh that Lycus had come to love when fighting. He had grown accustomed to it as he survived a long waging war between all races. He cared littled on which was the victor then, but now, as war began to rage again, Lycus felt himself fully invested in this cause.
Standing ever still, but always ready to pounce, the elven bodyguard listened intently as a new recruit was brought before them. The various intricate spells that hid his mental, physical, and even hygenial presence to all was a long one in the making, as Lycus prefected it so he could stand beside Katriana - ever the watchful wolf and protector of his saviour. It had been nearly 16 years since they had first met - since she had saved him and he had hoped that it would be many more years to come that he stood by her side. He owed her everything and no manipulation was involved. He had come to appreciate Katriana's views and even understand her than most people would ever.
Lycus' eyes flickered over to the great Vanilor, wondering what he was thinking as this new recruit rambled on and on about wanting to join. In his opinion the man seemed only to want to gain money and fame - he knew not the true purpose of Katriana's vision - and should be eliminated for being a mere nuisance to him and Katriana. He hoped Vanilor would just roast him and eat him.
And then it had happened. The man lunged at Katriana, eyes deadly and hands whipping out two knives. Katriana didn't seem to blink, but simply stared as Lycus moved forward noiselessly. He simply met the assassin straight on, not even unsheathing his weapons, but using his hands to do the killing. Ever so quickly, Lycus bent himself just enough so that his hand would shot straight up into the assassin's neck, gripping it instantly. Wipping around, Lycus used his other and to snap the man's neck at an odd angle. The man's eyes grew dim and his body went slack as a crack was heard. Lycus immediately pulled back and returned to his previous position by Katriana, knowing already that the man was dead before he would hit the ground.
The body slumped and all around them, potential recruits and members of the ever growing army all stared in awe and silence, all believing that Katriana had killed the man with some sort of magic or unbelievable speed. All never knowing that a silent watchman protected the great Shade Rider.
