So, Arasu didn't turn out as well as I had hoped...so I think I kinda want to just scratch her out, since I hardly even posted with her really...and I have a new idea for a Rider.

Character's name: Shiki
Character's age: 17
Character's attitude: Shiki has a rather obtrusive personality; he is very blunt and insensitive. He rarely takes others' feelings into thought before he acts or speaks. Still, he has a caring heart and is very sincere in everything he does.
Character's Race: human
Character's appearance:
Shiki is tall and lean, with strong muscles. His expression often matches his attitude, seemingly careless most of the time but in his eyes therein lies his true feelings. He has a gentle scar over his left eye from where his hatchling dragon accidentally scratched him. He has a brand mark of a dragon on his shoulder, signifying that he had been born a slave merely a year before the Varden achieved victory.
Character's allegiance: Dragon Riders
Weapons: Shiki's Rider's sword, Deyja, is literally always at his side, even when he sleeps. He has received training in other weapons, but is still most comfortable with his familiar blade.
Other Info: Shiki has a soft spot for Eva Giannasdaughter, but he knows she does not return his affections and has her eyes on someone else. However, he is still determined to be the best friend he can for her. Shiki also has a fear of heat and occasionally has nightmares of being burned alive.
History:
Shiki was born to a slave woman on a large estate near Teirm. His master was both kind and cruel in equal measure, allowing the slave to keep her child, but immediately branding the newborn with his sign, signifying that Shiki would belong to him. Despite his tender age, Shiki never forgot the feel of the hot iron against his sensitive skin. It took days to console him.
Within a year after his birth, the Varden managed to overthrow Galbatorix, and Nasuada became queen of Alagaesia. However, the action of freeing slaves was not as simple as anyone could hope, and Shiki's master was one of those who would not give up his slaves so easily. He fought for five long years for his slaves, refusing to budge and inch, giving every sort of argument imaginable as to why keeping them would be important. However, he eventually lost, and his slaves were free to choose their fate. A few to whom he had been nice decided to stay on his estate as paid servants, but Shiki's mother took the boy and fled, traveling to the recently established village of Celesti.
They were welcomed with open arms, and Shiki quickly settled into his new life in the town. He became friends with the other children--Ian, Eva, as well as all Marcus and Marola's children. The years seemed to pass smoothly.
When he was twelve, Shiki was walking out on the roads near the town, practicing with a sword he'd just received, when a couple of fair travellers approached him. They smiled at the boy and presented him with a dragon egg, telling him that he may be chosen by fate. Excitedly, he ran back home to tell his mother. After a couple of days, Yuki hatched.
Shiki and Yuki had somewhat of a rough start to their relationship. Shiki had no idea how to care for a hatchling, really, so he visited Einar's home to learn. While Einar and Gianna were teaching him about the hatchling and the bond between them, Yuki blew some smoke into his face. Shiki was suddenly terrified, his fear of fire and heat exploding. He dropped the hatchling, and during the fall Yuki tried to catch ahold with her claws and scratched his eye. No permanent damage was caused, but Shiki kept the scar as a reminder to take care of his dragon no matter his personal fears.
After a week or so with the hatchling, the travellers returned, telling Shiki that if he wished to receive proper training as a Rider, he should come with them to Bromsland. Shiki was torn, not wanting to leave his mother behind all alone, but when she assured him that she would be fine and encouraged him, he decided to go with them.
In the five years since then, Shiki has become a powerful warrior, and a true Rider. His bond with Yuki is strong and they trust and know each other intimately. Recently, Shiki was pleasantly surprised by the arrival of Eva and Gloriann, each with their own dragon. He watched over them as they took their exams, hoping that they would remain safe.
He spent some of his free time with Eva, wanting to get to know her again after the five years that he spent alone in Bromsland. He was always good friends with the twins growing up, and now he felt a measure of attraction toward her. However, it did not take long for him to notice her infatuation with the elf blacksmith, Antien. Having some small measure of sense, he's decided it's not worth attempting to pursue her when she seems so dead-set on someone else. Still, he enjoys her company and has sworn to make sure she is safe no matter what.
With the recent disaster of Gloriann going missing, the Ismalian princess being tortured, and many young Riders running off on their own self-given missions, Shiki is doing everything in his power to keep order in New Doru Araeba, assisting the Masters in whatever they need help with.
Role Play Sample:
Why don't you just tell her how you feel? Yuki asked, stretching her jaws in a wide yawn. Shiki gave the dragon an incredulous side glance as he swung Deyja in a swift arc around his imaginary opponent.
"Are you kidding me?" he asked her, concentrating on his practice. "You think I should just walk up to Eva and say 'Hey, I know you really like that elf guy, but I thought you should know, I sorta like you?'" He shook his head.
Why not? You say things more daft than that on a regular basis. The dragon opened an eye and watched him as he spun in a circle.
"I just don't think it would be a good idea, okay?" Shiki hoped Yuki would just drop it. He knew Eva liked Antien--it was obvious to anyone with eyes. Sure, he could tell her how he felt, but that would only lead to rejection. And he really didn't feel like having his heart broken at the moment.
It's better than tormenting your mind with it every second of the day. Yuki returned to her nap. Shiki jabbed his sword into the ground and stood, thinking for several moments.
"You may think so. I don't agree." He sheathed his blade and glanced up, where he spotted Eva on her way with yet another broken weapon toward the blacksmith's shop. "I would rather walk into a furnace than experience the rejection I know awaits me." His words rang in Yuki's mind. She knew well the terror he held of being burned alive.
