occ: this is a bit of a spin off from "Do You Hear the People Sing?" i figure there's probably a limit to how many people are going to fit inside the tent and posting is going to get confusing if more characters join so here's whats going on outside the tent
Andromeda landed outside the city’s walls her flight clearance had been pre approved prior to their arrival at Gil'aed but their destination they were told was an outpost a short distance from the City.
Melantha dismounted from Andromedad's back fuming in silence. Her cheeks still pink from yelling at the two knight hawks that had delivered Nasuada's vague message. She now knew about the Shade Rider and her impending army and she was furious. It was partly her own fault; she had neglected her Rider duties in exchange of mothering a child.
Her family life had put her out of touch with what was going on in the land so naturally she had no idea that there was a war going on and No thanks to the two dimwit soldiers that called themselves knight hawks they had flown strait into the war zone with out knowing it because the soldiers had decided it was best to keep them in the dark until they arrived and something about not wanting the enemy knowing that they were gathering up Riders to fight?
Seven years ago her reaction would not have been so fiery, but having a child would do that to you. She was still on edge and so angry because they had put her son in danger. Their defence was that his existence was unknown to the Queen, and that they were following orders? She had no idea but she was on a mission to get to the bottom of it.
She had sent Dubhan with Seth and Abaddon to Daret hoping it would be safer for Dubhan, while she sorted out what they were going to do. She felt as if some one had punched her in the stomach repeatedly yelling times up back to reality and the reality was there was a Shade who some how had be come a rider or a rider who had become a shade? and had formed an army that was reeking havoc across Alagaesia? She was stunned at the news, how could this happen being her first thought.
"Melantha clam down you can’t yell at Queen Nasuada like you did those Solders." Andromeda tried to speak in soothing tones careful not to fuel her rider’s rage.
she grunted annoyed "How can you not be angry, we could have been attacked on the way to Daret, and we would have been unprepared, they put my son in danger and kept us in the dark." She could feel Andromeda's calm emotions wash over her she got the feeling the dragon was pushing her emotions onto her intentionally.
“I am as angry as you are but I do not let it over come me, you act like an aggressive territorial dragon protecting its hatchling from prey.” Andromeda said walking alongside her rider.
Seeing the outline of tents in the distance it reminded her of the old Varden campsites she couldn't help the feeling of nostalgia towards the memories of first meeting Seth in a similar scenery.
She laughed “Ha, well I can’t help acting like a dragon when I’m bonded to one can I, some times I think you act more like a human too, perhaps I should build you a dragon sized table and chair, and get a smith to make a plate and fork big enough for you to use the next time you scoff down large animal.” She said laughing, the comical thought of Andromeda trying to use giant cutlery, it lifting her mood.
Andromeda chuckled letting out a puff of smoke from her nostrils. Her mood mellowed out and her mood became serious “Your Anger and concern over Dubhan’s safety in this situation is reasonable and very much justified, but you have to look at the bigger picture, many innocent lives are at stake if we do not fight and defeat the shade rider monstrosity.”
Melantha nodded wordlessly returning to a more serious demeanour as she walked alongside her black dragon bond, thinking privately to herself of course Andromeda was right she almost always was.
By the time they reached the Outpost her mood had calmed somewhat though her mood could reignite at a moments notice. She reached into her coat that she wore over her rider armour and pulled out the letter with Nasuada’s seal on the envelop and showed it to the guards who allowed them to pass into the camp.
Melantha and Andromeda made their way up to the command tent clearly the largest tent in the whole camp. The guards didn’t look very happy to see them ‘I do not care who you are! I cannot let any one else inside, Queen Nasuada currently in an important meeting with Lord Elias, Prince Tristan, princess Tatiana, and General Riker………. They cannot be disturbed.’ Melantha heard him recall a number of other names but she tuned out after a while trying not to let his rudeness bother her further.
It was clear they weren’t getting in to see the queen anytime soon “What do we do?” She said biting back her annoyance with the way the guard had spoken to her.
Andromeda set her self down a about two meters in front of the tent “I guess we are going to have to wait.” She said resting her head on the ground
Melantha walked away from the guards with clenched fists and joined Andromeda setting herself down on the ground with her back leaning against Andromeda’s belly and shut her eyes. “Andromeda” she said hesitantly “I’m, I’m scared.” She admitted feeling a strange tightness in her stomach.
“As am I.” Andromeda replied.
There was a long silence between the two of them before Andromeda spoke again after deep thought. “I will fight alone, Dubhan needs you.” she declared knowing it was the right thing to do.
Melantha considered Andromeda’s proposal “No, I couldn’t let you do that, you would be left exposed to magical attacks, I have to fight its my duties as a rider I’ve sworn oath to the queen to protect this land and its citizens to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.” She paused to gather the rest of her thoughts, her feelings swayed “Even if I did decided to sit this war out if the Queen orders we fight this war I must obey.” She let out a sigh she was torn, she didn't want to leave Dubhan by himself but she had to face the fact that she might very well be forced to abandon him during the war. The thought almost brought tears to her eyes.
"I don't want him to grow up with out a Mother or Father as a result of this war.. i can't..."
Andromeda decided to let her rider talk it out and not interrupt her stream of thought.
“Though, What would I be teaching my son if I didn’t fight and if we lost, wouldn’t it be better if I had fought in the first place, perhaps the outcome would be different. I dare say it but I would rather die knowing I was making Alagaesia safer place for my son to live in rather than living in a land terrorised by a shade rider constantly running because I didn’t fight back.” She paused remembering the terrible nights they had spent fleeing from the empire barely sleeping or eating, it wasn’t a life she wanted for her son.
Even though she was speaking with Andromeda mentally she took a deep breath in before she spoke as if the prior conversation had put her out of breath. “I will fight, because I have something precious worth fighting for and it is my duty.” She let out a sigh of relief and she wiped her eyes, though not all the tension in her body was released; she still felt a lot of uncertainty about her decision.
Andromeda was glad her rider was working things out on her own. “Lets just see what Nasuada says I’m sure she will be more than understanding of our situation besides, I if you chose to fight I think the hard part will be convincing Seth, I think he let us come here so he could spend more time with Dubhan before the battle assuming you would go back and stay with Dubhan during the battle. ”
Melantha nodded “I suppose so.” Knowing that unlike most rulers Queen Nasuada was understanding and kind. “Abaddon shared that with you?” it was less of a question and more like a statement she already could guess was true.
Andromeda gave her rider a toothy grin, “yes, there are few moments when our minds aren’t connected.” she replied simply knowing her rider found the same amusement when she dobbed Seth in.
“Well, at least Seth and I were thinking along the same lines at the time, though I think my mind has shifted since then. though i don't know if that will change, I guess we will just have to wait till we talk to queen Nasuada.” Melantha stretched out her arms and yawned feeling her nerves growing, dancing around in her stomach, it made her feel ill.
