Hmm, making random characters at 2 in the morning is always fun. Let's see how she turns out. Plus, we sure could use some more Ismalians.
Your username: Jeriah/Tismri
Character's name: Niath Avia
Character's age: 16
Character's attitude: Somewhat unpredictable, seemingly self-concerned, but with a heart of gold underneath. Niath is often self-conscious, but attempts to hide it or brush it off. She wants to do what is right for her people, but doubts that anything she does will affect it. She is concerned about the state of the Ismalian royal affairs, and does not entirely agree that going to war will be beneficial to them.
Character's Race: 1/2 Ismalian 1/2 elf
Character's appearance:
Niath has an extremely unique appearance that is an unusual result of her mixed heritage.
Her hair naturally grows in multiple different shades, predominately half her mother's dark brown and half a pale strawberry-blonde, with a few white-blonde streaks running through it. She also has heterochroma, following the same color pattern as her hair, but on opposite sides.
As if the hair and eyes were not enough, Niath also has a small pair of white wings growing from the back of her head, which she often keeps hidden under a short veil. She is often wearing light armor that models common Ismalian court clothing, but is deceptively protective.
Character's allegiance: Ismalia. This does not necessarily mean by extension the Dragon Riders.
Weapons: Niath has been trained to use all sorts of small daggers and blades, as well as certain poisons. She also has a surprisingly adept grasp at magic, although without a proper instructor and due to her Ismalian blood, she has far from perfected it.
Other Info: Niath is a distant cousin to Teza Mae and is therefore a possible heir to the Ismalian throne. However, the line of succession before her is incredibly long, and her changes of ruling slim.
History: Niath Avian is the daughter of Queen Mother Tenel Ka's cousin, Tabitha Mia, the daughter of Tamar Fam's youngest son. At a young age, Tabitha Mia had an exceptionally adventurous spirit and would often visit the various cities throughout Ismalia, as well as visit the surrounding countryside. One time she was visiting the city of Sundavar, a city that has Ismalian architecture build around the beautiful yet ominous giant trees that are all that remain of an ancient elven city. While there, she met a strange man who happened to be visiting the city as well.
This man happened to be an elf, Renault Avian, visiting the remains of what was once his grandfather's home. He was well over four centuries old. For most of his life, Renault had chosen his appearance to resemble a bird, earning his surname among his people. His arms and body were covered in white and red feathers, and his hair had grown into a crest. However, while visiting this city that was inhabited by superstitious Ismalians, he chose to conform to a more normal appearance--no more feathers, and his hair flowed normally, although it remained a bright crimson with white streaks.
While visiting this city, the princess and the elf met. Tabitha Mia was swept off her feet by the kind and dashing foreigner, while Renault came to enjoy her company. The princess' guards strongly discouraged her from getting too involved with him, but she didn't listen. A few years passed, and the two continued their lives, meeting every few months in the strange city that represented the merging of their people. They truly did come to love one another, but as the years passed, they came to realize that theirs was a love that simply could not be. The royal family would never approve of any princess having a foreign lover, (before Tenel Ka married an Alagaesian herself) and Renault would be frowned upon for taking a non-elven mate. Nine months after their final goodbye, Niath was born.
Niath was born into the same precarious position as all Ismalian princesses have been, each woman in their family scheming and plotting to take the throne for themselves. Luckily, she was born just removed enough from the line of succession that very little attention has been given to her as a threat. However, she is easily the most ostracized of the potential heirs. Her very appearance sings of her half-elven nature. Since her father had a heavy preference for birdlike features, the magic he'd used for that affect caused small wings to sprout from the back of her head. She long ago learned to keep them hidden beneath a veil, under the guise of an elaborate hairstyle. That, along with her hair and eyes, brings upon her many stares among her people, and she has received a few threats of death as an abomination of their people. As such, she has learned how to defend herself and has discovered a little about magic on her own.
Niath has no ambition to claim the throne for herself, wishing no harm upon the Queen Mother or the crown princess. However, she does not agree with their decision to go to war. Most of this stems from her own distrust of foreigners, as she feels somewhat abandoned by the father who likely does not even realize she exists. She believes that elves and Alagaesians will only take advantage of their people and give them nothing in return.
Role Play Sample:
Niath strode through the bright crystalline hallways of the Ismalian royal palace. The place was spacious, and each branch of the family had its own wing with a fair amount of room to spare. Aunts, uncles, cousins, distant cousins, people she wasn't even sure how she was related to were all over the place, yet often she felt alone. She was a rare occurrence of an only child that was not in the primary line of succession, her mother still unmarried after all these years. Niath sometimes wondered if she was the reason for that, her hideous appearance driving men away.
She glanced up as she heard laughter from outside a nearby window. She looked out and spotted three of her more well-known distant cousins apparently playing around in the dirt. The three children of Prince Tristan and Lady Teodora. Tatiana was apparently outraged by something her brothers had done, and young Tylon was chortling aloud. Thane's uproarious laughter and sparkling eyes momentarily captured Niath's attention. Her wings gave an involuntary flutter, and she quickly turned away before he noticed her. She wished she could have as easy a life as they did. They looked perfect, so they never had to act like it. She, on the other hand, had to act perfect because she looked anything but.
"Lady Niath," a guard approached her, looking a little flustered from looking around the palace for her. "Your lady mother wishes you to accompany her on an upcoming trip. She wishes for you to attend her."
"Of course," she replied with every courtesy, walking toward her responsibility and away from the carefree sounds of laughter.
