Character's name: Serena
Character's age: 15
Character's attitude: Serena is very pleasant, if often quiet. Her nose is nearly always planted in a book, and she has difficulty putting down whatever she is reading even during a fight. Unlike her parents, she is not flirtatious and does not actively try to bring attention to herself. She has a sort of eidetic memory--as she reads, she envisions the scenes or the description, and can recall this imagination at will. However, she will often re-read books to make sure her vision is as accurate as possible. Occasionally she will have vivid dreams of these scenes, and other times her dreams will be closer to premonitions of the future.
Character's Race: human
Character's appearance:
Serena has inherited the natural beauty that both her parents possess, although unlike they are, she does not take too much pride in the fact; indeed, she is hardly even aware of it most of the time. She has her father's hair (though much paler in shade) held back in two long ponytails, and her mother's eyes. She wears fine, yet travel-worn clothing, including a hooded cloak and gloves, which hides an odd birthmark on the back of her right hand.
Character's allegiance: Dragon Riders, particularly Queen Nasuada and the Empire.
Weapons:
Serena wields a long, jagged sword made with bronze and steel. There is a large yellow diamond in the crossguard for storing energy. She is also quite adept at magic and has been known to cast spells without ever looking up from her book.
Other Info: Serena is one of the most well-versed historians in the land, having uncovered lost tomes of both Alagaesia, Surda, and Ismalia, as well as those of the dwarves. She has spoken with several of the oldest elves and been granted permission to read through select pieces of their histories as well. As such, she is sometimes called upon to give her opinion on certain war tactics, particularly if they have been tried before, and how successful the attempts were.
History: Serena is the daughter of Daemon and Meera. As such, she was raised around magicians and spell-workers. When she was young, her talent with magic was evident, and so she attended the Empire's school of magic. She still has one more year as a student before she graduates and officially swears fealty to Nasuada. In the course of her studies, she grew fascinated with literature of all types, be they old tales, spell books, poetry, or most particularly history. She had read the entire library of Du Vrangr Gata's school by the time she was nine, and many of them she had read at least twice. Because of her thirst for knowledge and hunger for books, she was allowed to travel to Ileria, Aberon, Tronjheim, and even Ellesmera and Freia to study. Recently her study tour has brought her to New Doru Araeba as well.
Within the last couple of years, Serena has begun searching for lost books, exploring some ancient tombs and hidden caves. When her studies led her to be more explorative, she began taking her defense training at school more seriously. She had a unique sword made for her, and practiced more battle-practical spells.
Role Play Sample:
Serena peeked into the vast tomb before her. Everything within was still and quiet; nothing had moved in there for ages. A part of her was hesitant to enter, wondering if the dead would not want her there.
Don't be silly, she told herself, striding in. She cast a small light spell above her head to guide her steps. The dead are gone, and they can't hurt you. And even if they are aware, they certainly wouldn't want to horde this knowledge away from the living. She passed by the quiet halls where men long gone were laid to rest while she kept an eye out. Occasionally she could come across a dusty treasure, trinkets of gold and jewels that would likely catch her father's appreciative eye, but meant little to her. At the far end, she found what she was looking for. A large, dust-laden tome. Gingerly, she took it and opened the cover. The pages were stiff, but they did not crumble under her fingers as she feared they would. Immediately, the words on the pages grasped her attention, and she became lost in the tale it told.
At the edge of her hearing, a faint rustling sounded. Like dried leaves rubbing together. Whatever it was skittered closer to her as she stood, ready to leave, her eyes still intent upon the pages. After five steps, a hiss joined the rustling.
"Brisingr," Serena called, pointing in the direction of the noise. The giant snake gave a shrieking hiss as flames consumed its body, and Serena never spared it a glance as she turned the page and returned to the free day air.
