Character's name: Vanea
Character's age: 23
Character's attitude: Vanea is charming and quick to please others. She has a talent for knowing what people want and finding a way of giving it to them. It was a talent that kept her alive and even prosperous despite being an orphan. Despite her apparently manipulative nature, she has a genuine heart and wishes for all to know peace. She is also a warrior in her own right, having trained and even fought in several arenas.
Character's Race: human
Character's appearance:
Vanea has long blonde hair and innocent hazel eyes. She wears silver plated armor with black undertones, and a black jeweled headband. When Azure hatched, she added a sapphire blue cloak to her apparel. Oddly, she refuses to wear shoes.
Character's allegiance: Dragon Riders
Weapons: A long, bronze-toned sword. She is also adept with a bow and experienced in other weapon uses. Magic.
History: Vanea was born to a noble family in Galbatorix's court, her father being one of his top generals and her mother one of the wealthy heiresses that lived in the city. Her mother died when Vanea four years old, taken by a fever. Her father was rarely at home, always gone to battle against the Varden. He was killed in the siege against Belatona, leaving Vanea orphaned. At a mere seven years old, she already had a sharp mind and had the empathy to see into the hearts of others. She promised her servants that she would continue to pay them as they had before, and chose a most trusted elder servant to pay out the wages and teach her how to do it herself.
Uru'baen was eventually taken by the Varden, and Galbatorix was killed. Nasuada proved a merciful queen, and Vanea swore her house's allegiance to the new ruler. By this point, she had already been training in sword practice and was quite adept. As a thank you gift for her fair treatment, her elderly butler commissioned a suit of light armor to be made for her. She adored the gift and accepted, wearing it all the time, except for the boots. Ever since she was a little girl, Vanea had always refused to wear any sort of shoes, preferring to move around the world barefoot in spite of the rocks, thorns, and other things that threatened her skin.
By age sixteen, Vanea was more than a competent fighter, and she earned extra money for herself by contributing in arena battles. The laws of the arenas had changed since Galbatorix's time: the fighters had to use blunted weapons, to lessen the threat of accidental--or purposeful--deaths. Vanea proved to be a crowd favorite, receiving cheers, flowers, and the title "Warrior Angel."
When she was seventeen, a small group of elves arrived in Ileria, and offered to present the dragon eggs before the citizens. After nearly a month of exposure, a sapphire male hatched for Vanea, and she promptly named him Azure. They trained for some years in Bromsland before returning to the capital and swearing to Nasuada to do whatever it took to halt the new threat of Katriana.
Role Play Sample:
Vanea faced off before her opponent. He was a stout dwarf with a wide hammer. He was sure to take his stature as an advantage. She considered his weaknesses. He was stout enough, and his weapon heavy enough, that she could likely dance around and disarm him with a sudden flick of the wrist. She settled upon that plan just as the match began.
As she expected, the dwarf was slow to keep up with her. However, she underestimated his ability to read her thoughts as he turned the opposite way that she had expected him to. His hammer struck her armor wit ha resounding thud, and she leapt away before charging to face him again. She twisted her body in one direction, while moving her sword in the opposite way. He seemed to expect that, though, and parried her blow before attempting to knock her off balance.
He's experienced with diversion tactics, she remarked to Azure before resuming her battle
Then give him the last thing he expects, Azure replied, watching the battle from above. Attack him head-on. She thought for a second before agreeing with him that it was a good idea. She charged at him, running straight her sword raised. He seemed ready for anything, but as the dragon had suggested, he was caught off guard by attacking the very way she had telegraphed, knocking him to the ground with a strike hard enough to cause a bruise. He smiled up at her, then raised a hand to the judges, calling that he had surrendered the fight.
Well, that was quick, Azure commented to Vanea.
