Arlondale blinked awake from his trance as the sun began to rise. Standing he walked out onto the balcony over looking much of the forest. Though their tree is not as high as many in Ellesmera, but the view was still beautiful. Below him other Elves were beginning their day. Knowing what lay before him he bathed and dressed in fine, soft green robes and slippers and grabbed a seed cake to eat before climbing down to the streets below. Still being a child despite having the height and maturity of a human adult, his skin had a very faint glow, showing that the power that filled the youngest of Elves had not left him yet. The others who walked by him offered friendly smiles. He approached the grand gates of the royal compound and waited patiently for them to open.

Fira stood in the branches of a tree near the palace gates, aiming arrows at a target. She was guarding Ellesmera for the moment, though the queen was gone on an official visit, probably to Ilirea to visit Nasuada and discuss the Shade Rider's invasion. It took her a few moments to notice the young man standing outside the gates, waiting. He seemed a couple of years younger than she was, with remnants of his youth still visible in his face and skin.
She leapt off the branches and landed with practiced grace, nearly silent, and approached the visitor. Though she was obviously older than he was, she was quite noticeably shorter, barely reaching his chest height.
"You're here to visit the eggs?" she asked him curiously. They'd had several young elves visiting the dragon eggs that had been entrusted to them, some coming nearly every day for years. Dragons were sometimes picky people, and would only hatch when they knew they were in the presence of the one they wished to bond with.
Fira reached her burn-scarred hand toward the gate and opened it, ready to guide this young hopeful to where the eggs lay, waiting.

Fira lead the youth inside the great hall and to the room where the eggs were waiting. She smiled at his comments. "Fifteen? Happy birthday, then. I just recently turned seventeen myself. I was your age when I joined the queen's army." She glanced for a moment at her bare arm, and could still feel the scar tissue stretching the side of her face. "A lot's happened since then," she said softly, realizing that she was talking to herself more than to the boy.
"Anyway, don't be surprised if nothing happens today. I hear it even took a while for Saphira-elda to hatch for Eragon-elda. If a dragon doesn't yet choose you, you can come back as often as you like."

Aelondale's gaze falls on a small golden egg, mostly hidden by the others. He walks over and gently lays a hand on it As soon as he touches it the egg seems to glow slightly. He quickly snatched his hand back and stared at the egg before turning to the girl. "Is it supposed to glow when touched?"

Fira watched the interaction quietly. She'd never seen a dragon hatch before, but she had occasionally seen a sort of connection between an egg and a potential Rider. When that happened, the child was often encouraged to spent more time with the egg to see if anything came of it. More often than not, something did.
"Not always. Only when someone special touches it." To demonstrate, she picked up the egg, when nothing happened. She'd accepted a while ago that it was not her wyrd to be a Rider. She was all right with the idea, more focused on defeating the Shade's army and bringing her brother away from Katriana's dreadful influence.
"Here," she said, holding the little golden egg out to the boy. "Spend a couple of days with it. If nothing happens, you can bring him back here and see if you feel a different bond."

Arlondale takes the egg gently into his arms. "I will. My Name is Arlondale Sotari, though since there are not many elf children i suspect you know that, however I know not your name."

Fira smiled as the boy introduced himself. She'd heard his name when she visited the city, though she could not have identified him before now.
"I'm Fira Estelle," she told him. "I'm not really from this part of Du Weldenvarden. I grew up in Osilon. It is nice to meet you, Arlondale."

"And you" He says bowing awkwardly with the egg. "It is time for me to return home so I may start the day's training.

Arlondale stumbles into his room and collapses from exhaustion, slipping into his dream trance. A couple hours later he hears something rocking and a small squeak wakes him. Forgetting he had an egg he glanced around his room in confusion.

Out of the corner of his eyes he sees the egg... with cracks spider-webbing its surface. Suddenly the top cracks off and a tiny golden dragon wiggles its way out. Arlondale stares at it in shock and moves slowly over to it as it licks off the thin membrane covering it. As he draws near it stops and cocks its head at him, piercing him with emerald eyes. He reached his hand to it and touched it gently. A shock ran through his body and he let out a yell, waking his parents. He collapsed on the floor unconscious.

The shout snapped her from her waking dreams. Erya bounced to her feet and flashed to her sons room. It took her only a second to assess the situation. Erya strode into the room and knelt beside her son. Taking him gently by the shoulder, she shook him awake. "Awake, Dragon Rider." she said proudly, and looked at the beautiful golden hatchling. It was a magnificent creature. Even as a newborn the dragon seemed highly intelligent, alert, and ferocious. In the distant lineage of the Sotari there were said to be other dragon riders, from before the fall. It was then only natural that Arlondale take up the mantel as Argetlam.

Arlondale snaps awake upon hearing his mother. He also feels an odd probing in his mind, he probes back and hears the dragon squeak in response. "I... it... hatched...for me." He shakes his head and pets the little dragon before asking, "What happens now?"

Erya sat back on her heels, crouched next to Arlondale. She considered the dragon thoughtfully. "I suppose now you will need to announce yourself to the queen. I'm sure she will know what to do from here. You have brought great honor to our family, my son." Erya smiled fondly at her child and ruffled his hair lightly. "You must needs now go to New Doru Arabea. There the other riders will teach you everything they know."
