Varda paused a moment when the boy spoke. Ah, yes. She had forgotten that there was set to be a group of new students arriving. She spent enough time away from the academy that her knowledge of the goings on was spotty at best. If Lucian was leading a tour, that meant that it would be some time before she could make her report. He would be in full 'teacher state' for a while, and it would take a bit of time before he would be able to listen to battlefield reports without interrupting and gushing over his students. She internally sighed. The elf was brilliant, but, sometimes, he was just too much.
She turned her full attention back to the boy, taking in the way he very consciously covered his head with his hood. Embarrassment over some feature? He had the look of both an elf and a human about him. A halfblood? It would make sense. He most likely had been the recipient of a good amount of prejudice, and even persecution, in his younger years. A shame. As one who had been deprived of a childhood by the Mad King, she felt a good deal of both sympathy and empathy for those children who suffered.
Paying no further mind to it, she moved forward, gliding soundlessly with the predatory grace of an elven warrior.
"Thus we all fall behind in Lucian-elda's presence," she spoke again in her quiet, carrying voice, "He is an old elf. It is sometimes difficult to keep up with him, even for those of us who have known him a while."
She came to a halt before him, a few feet away so as not to step into his personal space and make him uncomfortable.
"I confess that I am not an instructor, but I do know this school well. Perhaps I might continue where you left off and we will catch up with Lucian-elda's group at some point?"
She had nothing else to do until she could give her report. And Lucian was always hounding her about how she should be more involved in teaching. The truth was that she did not trust herself to teach the next generation. Not with her past being what it was and her mind still so affected by Galbatorix's meddling. But, in this instance, she felt that she could effectively help this student along. At least until he was turned over to someone more experienced. If that was to be the case, she need introduce herself, then.
"I am called Varda, and my bondmate is Blizzard. Allow me to extend my goodwill in welcome to you."
