Character's name: Egil
Character's age: 23
Character's attitude: Egil is charming and devious. He has been raised to hate Nasuada and the current Empire. In reality, he is more hurt and confused over his lot in life. His only real comfort is his dragon. He has the ability to read others' emotions and can manipulate them with ease.
Character's Race: human
Character's appearance:
Egil has short blond hair and distrustful hazel eyes. He wears silver plated armor with black undertones, and refuses to wear shoes. He also wears a cerulean blue cloak.
Character's allegiance: Shade Uprising
Weapons: Egil is well versed in all manner of weapons, but primarily uses a bronze sword. He is also an expert at magic.
Other Info: If you haven't guessed by now, Egil is Vanea's twin brother. More on that to come. As an unrelated side note, both of these characters' appearance are the two default Avatars of Fire Emblem If, and their names come from a brother/sister pair from Xenoblade Chronicles.
History:
Egil was born as the twin of Vanea to a noble family. When they were three years old, their father, a general in Galbatorix's army, was injured. He was healed by a magician in the king's service, but as payment, he gave up his young son. The parents never spoke to Vanea about her brother, and memory of him began to fade away for her. Perhaps the fever that took their mother a year later was a result of her heartbreak.
Egil was trained and raised by Galbatorix's Black Hand in all manner of weapons. He was also discovered early on to have a talent for magic, and he studied many spells. Over the years, he proved to have a curious mind and would often ask questions relating not only to his studies, but also to the nature of their enemy, the Varden. He was taught that they were ruthless rebels who wanted to overthrow the world order, and peace would only be established by repelling their growing invasion.
He was allowed from time to time to see his sister from a distance. It was obvious to him that she was lonely in the mansion all alone and often expressed his desire to speak with her. His requests were always denied, and he was told that having family ties would only open him to being manipulated by others. He was assured that she knew about him and thought of him often.
When he was seven years old, the Black Hand knew that the Varden were going to invade Uru'baen. Many of them fled the city under the guise of "missions," and many of the younger ones such as Egil were sent to other cities, to be reunited with their mentors at a later date. When Egil met his mentor again, he was given heart-crushing news: his sister had been killed in the Varden attack on the city. From that point onward, he lived in hiding, training with his mentor, and growing to despise the Varden--and the new queen--who had taken his entire family from him.
When he turned seventeen, his mentor commissioned a special light suit of silver plated armor for him. He accepted the gift, but tossed the boots aside. He never wore shoes, even when he was a child, and preferred to go barefoot around the world. Very soon after he received this gift, the two of them intercepted a group of travelers going from Iliera to Bromsland. They discovered that these were part of a group sent with dragon eggs to look for potential new Riders. Posing as travelers themselves, Egil and his mentor joined them on their trek, intending on stealing a few eggs from them. However, their plans changed when a blue dragon egg hatched and bonded to Egil. The eggs' guardians were immediately set on bringing him with them all the way to Bromsland. He and his mentor fled from the group during the night, taking the hatchling with them.
In recent times, they learned of Katriana's existence and of her plans to strike back at the Varden. Egil wholeheartedly agreed, believing them to be the cause of the deaths of both his father and his sister. His dragon, Aqua, wasn't as sure, but she vowed to follow Egil wherever he went. So together, they joined with the Shade Rider's gathering force.
Role Play Sample:
Egil took a deep breath as he concentrated on the spell. It had been a difficult one for him for many years--impossible before Aqua hatched, even. Still, he was close. It was nearly perfected.
"Garjzla, jierda." He said the spell calmly, though the sudden exertion caused sweat to bead on his forehead. Seemingly from nowhere, shadows formed around him, with no source. Even from her height, he could hear Aqua's whine of concern.
Don't push it, she said. She gave him some of her energy. The last time he'd tried this, he was rendered unconscious for several hours and was too weak to move for the rest of the day.
He ignored her, though he was grateful for her offered energy, and he formed another spell. "Sundavar, risa." Around him, the shadows rose from the ground, and gave a more human outline. Each of them looked like a dark copy of himself for a brief moment. Then he could no longer maintain the spells and fell to the ground. Aqua landed by his side quickly to find him gasping, but still conscious.
"I can do it," he told her. "I know I can."
