It's that time again...the random character generator that is my brain has activated again.

Character's name: Zelos Kharlan
Character's age: 20
Character's attitude: Upon first meeting him, the general impression that Zelos gives off is that of a carefree goofball and skirt-chaser. He tends to joke and flirt and never seems to take anything seriously. This hides the pain and sorrow he keeps within his heart, where memories haunt him with nightmares. When you gain his trust, he will open up and show his true, serious side, full of bitter regrets and lingering anger and confusion.
Character's Race: human
Character's appearance:
Zelos has long, pale red hair that he keeps tied back with a white headband, and his eyes are bright blue. He wears fine tunics in bright colors, and it is not uncommon for him to have a flower pinned on the chest. He always wears a gold and ruby pendant that is the one keepsake from his past he will never willingly part from, even though it pains him to see it and remember.
Character's allegiance: Dragon Riders, Nasuada
Weapons: Zelos is very proficiently trained with a sword and shield, but is more often armed with a dagger. He is also an incredibly adept spellcaster.
Other Info: His little sister is another character I've made.
History: Zelos was born into the noble Kharlan family, who were always well renowned through Alagaesia for their skills in magic. They, along with most every other member of the aristocracy, were forced to swear fealty to Galbatorix upon his rise to power, but through the generations during his reign they always opposed him in their hearts. As punishment for their stubborn silent rebellion, the king subjected them to the whims of his Black Hand magicians, who would often use them as target practice or test subjects for exceedingly dangerous spells.
Zelos was four years old when the Varden finally emerged from the war victorious, overthrowing Galbatorix. The affliction of their family seemed to be at an end, and the Kharlans seemed to finally gain the respect they once had as they willingly followed their new queen, Nasuada. But peace was not so easily won. Members of Galbatorix's Black Hand survived, and some of them were not ready to abandon their research.
When Zelos was nine years old, the tormentors of the past returned, breaking into their mansion. They murdered his father, and then kidnapped both him and his mother. They were taken somewhere far away and unknown; they would beat and launch painful spells at him whenever he tried to resist, and he was separated from his mother. It was nearly three months before a group of Riders were able to find and rescue them; they also discovered that Lady Kharlan was pregnant as well. The Black Hand members in the hideout were eradicated and the family returned home. His mother was traumatized, however. She spent most of her time swinging between catatonic and hysteric moods, and many feared for both her health and that of her baby.
Zelos was sent away at this time to one of the magic schools that had been established, where he was trained not only in the arcane arts but also in swordplay. He proved incredibly adept at both, and while he was far from mastering them, he was considered competent within just a few months. He was advanced enough that his teachers allowed him to return home for a while for the birth of his sister.
At first, everything seemed to have returned to normal. His mother even appeared happy, holding her baby girl in her arms, and she was overjoyed to have Zelos back with her. They had decided to travel to Surda to visit some distant relatives who had escaped from Galbatorix's reign and settled there long ago. But along the way, something snapped inside her. Lady Kharlan began to attack her children. Zelos defended himself and did his best to protect the baby without hurting his mother, but she was both fierce and mad. In a singular moment of clarity between the screams of horror and rage, she quietly begged her son to kill her, before she killed either of them. So Zelos, at the young age of ten, was forced to deal a fatal blow to his mother as she lunged for his baby sister. Bleeding and limping, she grabbed the infant and took off at a sprint through the pouring rain, and Zelos fainted from the entire ordeal.
When he awoke, Zelos had no idea what became of either his mother or his sister. He knew his mother could not survive the wound he'd given her, though, unless there happened to be a healer nearby. As for the baby, given the state their mother had been in and the ferocity of her attacks, he had no choice but to believe she had been killed. Even if she wasn't, there was nothing she could do if their mother had died of her wounds far from any help. In the course of a single afternoon, Zelos had lost everything that held any meaning to him. His entire family was gone.
He was soon after found by some travellers and returned home, the heir to the Kharlan fortune. He spent the next ten years learning how to live as the head of a noble family; fortunately a friend, Vanea, was in a similar situation in life and helped him learn how to handle his household affairs and care for his servants. He also returned to his magic school to continue his training. He now lives in Ileria as one of the most well-known and well-loved members of nobility, if not the most well respected due to his nonchalant attitude toward everything. So far, only Vanea knows his true self and how he really feels about his life.
Role Play Sample:
Zelos gave a bright smile to the passing girls who all giggled at him. They waved and beckoned him over, but just as he took a step toward them, a lithe, armored figure stepped out from around a corner, perfectly silent on her bare feet. He never understood how Vanea could stand to walk on the hot paving stones that way, but she never seemed to mind. She tsked at him and waved the girls along, ignoring their dirty looks and longing sighs in her friend's direction.
"You can play later, Zelos," she told him, guiding him back toward his manor. "You've got wages to pay out first, unless you want to lose your staff."
"You never let me have any fun," he pouted as he followed her back home. But his dissatisfaction melted away into an easy, teasing smile. "Or maybe you just want me all to yourself, sweetie?" He winked at her, to which she replied with a light, playful slap.
"Only in your dreams," she told him.
"Ah, and what sweet dreams they are. If only you would grant me the chance to make them reality."
"Speaking of dreams," Vanea said as they closed the door behind them, alone but for the omnipresence of servants waiting on them hand and foot. Her eyes fell upon the shiny pendant perfectly centered on his chest. Zelos' face sobered at her concerned gaze. "You look tired...more nightmares?"
Zelos fingered the pendant that he had accidentally ripped of his mother's neck during his struggle against her. "Nothing different than usual. It's just...tomorrow it will have been ten years. I still feel so...guilty."
"Don't," she told him, taking his hand in hers. "She would have killed you. And it was what she wanted; you told me yourself she begged for you to do it."
"But I didn't just kill her that day," he said softly. Though his eyes remained dry, they held for a moment more sadness than a single person should be able to hold. "My sister died, too. I'm sure of it. I killed them both." Vanea could think of nothing to do but hold his hand in sympathy.
