Character's name:
Vahrrnglk
Character's age:
23
Character's attitude: Life is first and foremost succession a of duties for Vahrrnglk.
Protecting his family and clan are the chief purpose of his life and his devotion to training for battle shows that. Since his father died he has taken the roll of eldest son very seriously, knowing that caring for his family is a responsibility that defines his life. He does not look down on those who he perceives less than himself, but there is always a knowledge of his own capabilities and an estimation of others', both mental and physical. Even tempered for an Urgal, he has fairly good control of his temper and is not prone to making rash decisions. Vahrrnglk also knows how to have fun, though, and still take opportunities to irritate his siblings as they arise.
Character's Race:
Urgal - Kull
Character's appearance: Grey skin, close cropped black hair, large horns, fangs, talonlike black fingernails and 8.5" tall. He looks far stronger than a plain Urgal, and thus impossibly strong when compared to a human: strong enough to rip people apart with his bare hands. While there are some nondescript, healed wounds on his body, the one which would most likely catch your attention is a long, puckered scar which runs along the outside of his left forearm and curves up just past his elbow. In daily life he wears a loincloth, along with a knotted rope bracelet on his arm and a wooden pendant on a leather strap around his neck. He also wears a brightly coloured baldric that denotes his station as a bachelor ram.
Character's allegiance: Dragon Riders, Urgals
Weapons: a massive wooden club capped with metal and tipped with spikes. His battlearmour, when he wears all of it, consists of a leather helm, breastplate, vambraces, rerebraces, cuisses and greaves.
Other Info: Brother of Karzhan, elder by 3 years. I hope to make him a Rider, but did not want to rush that. I am looking forward to writing about a certain dragon meeting his Urgal for the first time!
History: Vahrrnglk was just old enough to remember losing his father to the Great War. Ever since the day he heard the news that his father would not be coming back, Vahrrnglk began taking the role of eldest son very seriously. He became more careful to protect his siblings from harm's way and to never back down from a fight if the family honour was at stake.
The added responsibilities mounted the older he grew, and kept him from much of the training he would normally have received with other Kull. Instead, in his free time he trained with his brothers. While strength was undoubtedly on his side, they often made up for the imbalance by outthinking him. His twin brothers, and Rrishkbaz in particular before the attack by Katriana, especially delighted in scheming up new ways to defeat him in their brawls. By fighting with them instead of other Kull, Vahrrnglk learned the hard way that thinking through a battle was the surest way to victory.
His biggest civic duties lie at the tribal farming lands, where each family is expected to till their share of the land. Still single, Vahrrnglk is also a regular member of the longer hunting expeditions. While he doesn't have any special training in any sort of handiwork, he likes to make small animals and other designs constructed out of hardened leather and give them to cubs. He is also capable of reading and writing the Urgal language and English (is there a better name for what humans speak?).
In battle he has fought since the age of sixteen with the Gronth Tribe's Kull Unit, who normally use "shock and awe" tactics in their raids. They are roughly four score strong. There is rarely any chance for the unit to fight in battles since the advent of the meets, but there are always plenty of opportunities in an Urgal village for rams to test one another's battle prowess. Although he is one of the younger Kull, Vahrrnglk has proved himself on more than one occasion as a worthy opponent both on the battlefield and in the events of tactics that compose part of the meets.
Role Play Sample: Wind rustled through the trees, making the dawn sound full of whispers as the Kull crept up on his prey. When he came to the edge of its clearing a twig snapped, causing a brown, hairy head to turn in his direction. Vahrrnglk bared his fangs and stepped out of the trees' cover, roaring his challenge into the early morning light. The Urzhad hefted itself off of the ground, bellowing its own defiance until the trees around them shook from their distant tops to the boughs near their trunks. As the massive bear began moving towards him almost sluggishly, Vahrrnglk readied his twenty foot hunting spear in anticipation. Made of stout, thick oak, it resembled a boaring spear except for the massive size: boar were large, but this spear was intended for a prey much larger. The cave bear picked up speed until it looked like an avalanche of brown fur, ripping teeth and hateful, yellow eyes bore down upon him. As the bear neared him, the Kull pointed the spear as near the heart as he could and braced himself. The collision was not so much an impact as an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. The thwarted charge's shock knocked them both onto the ground. The combatants struggled to their feet, gasping to regain the breath that had been stolen from their lungs. Blood sprinkled the ground as the Urzhad moved, the spear swaying back and forth while embedded deep in the matted fur and the flesh that lay beneath it. As the bear staggered to all fours, its adversary was already up and moving to its side. Evading the clumsy swipe made in his direction, Vahrrnglk leapt on the massive bear's back and wrapped his hands around the throat. The pressure needed to choke through the thick layer of fur and muscle that covered the bear's neck would have been beyond anything other than a Kull. Even as he began slowly choking the life from its lung, the Urzhad twisted and turned, trying to dislodge its assailant. Vahrrnglk bared his fangs as the cave bear slammed its side against the tree repeatedly. Finally, as it rose once more on its hind legs, the Kull threw all of his weight forward and sent the beast crashing into the ground, driving the spear into its heart. Riding its back even in its death throes, he struggled to keep it as still as possible.
Finally, when he was sure the beast was dead, the hunter dismounted his quarry and began the process of cleaning. Slicing the stomach open from neck to tail, and the appendages along their length, all of the entrails were removed and dumped in a hole. The bones were next to go in the hole before it was filled, although the head remained intact. Bringing out a bone needle and thick thread, Vahrrnglk sewed shut the cuts he had made and hefted the carcass over his shoulder. Glancing at the sun, a grunt was elicited from his otherwise impassive form. He had a long walk ahead of him to get back to the village.
