Crown Occ: so, I’m starting off where they have just left and are going to meet the soldiers that the Queen I assume has provided them. I’m thinking a good mix of all the races will be fun to use as soldiers. I've left it pretty open so far so we can make up the details of where the siege will take place as we go. I also couldn't think of a better tittle.
*Swoosh* *Thwhump* *Swoosh* *Thwhump* echoed across the sky as two dragons and their riders flew towards the west. The suns orangey-yellow light slowly dimmed casting orange, pink and purple light across the sky marking the end of the day but more importantly the beginning of the night.
Melantha wiped her eyes on the hem of her cloak as she tried to lock the image of Dubhan’s face deep inside her mind, knowing that the next time she saw him he would change again as children often did during growth spurts. He was growing up so fast and it saddened her to miss even the smallest amount of time. She dreaded the day that he caught up to his slow ageing parents. Would Dubhans hair turn grey before hers did? She often asked herself questions like this. Perhaps this was why so few riders had children she often concluded.
It was becoming increasingly difficult for her to do her duties as a Dragon Rider during times of war, as it often meant leaving Dubhan behind. There was some comfort in knowing he was safe at New Doru Araeba with her mother who she knew would take care of him just as she herself would. Yet there was no cure for the tingling ache in her heart that would arise every time she had to pull herself away from him to leave for an unknown extended amount of time.
It was easy to dwell on the emotional departure while it was still fresh in her mind, but she knew she would have to pull herself together and focus on the mission at hand a for a lot was at stake.
Andromeda was focused on flying and surveying the land below and the sky above for threats from wild dragons. If they stuck to schedule and maintained pace they would be out of Bromsland and entering contested territory after night fall which meant humans and shades where another likely threat to throw into the mix. Their goal was to get to the designated rendezvous under the cover of darkness which they had plenty of time to achieve even if they had to take a detour.
Once she was sure she had regained her composure Melantha turned to her left where Abaddon flew several meters away with Seth upon his back. The hulk size dragon’s lilac scales almost camouflaged against the purples in the sky much like Andromdas did in the night.
She hadn’t had much time to talk to Seth about anything besides the mission so now that they were alone she thought it best to take the opertunity to discus things of a personal nature before they arrived.
She effortlessly extended her mind out towards her husband. “Seth before we left I took off my wedding ring." She confessed "I think it best if we conceal our relationship during the mission not just to be professional but…”
She turned away to look straight ahead at the sun setting on the horizon. A beautiful image compared to the awful memory that entered her mind.
“Just in case something goes wrong... and the worst were to happen...and they somehow managed to capture us both”. She glanced over worried of what his reaction might be.
While several years had passed since the last war it wasn’t an easy thing for her to forget the torture she had endured while being held captive by the empire and while that was bad enough that she couldn't bere having to witness someone she loved go through that kind of pain in order to break her mind or for the enemy to use her to get into his mind.
Andromeda cringed as she followed her rider’s train of thought. “Mel don’t think of that you and I were both young, naive and too stubborn to ask for help, we got in way over our heads, this will be different we have Seth, Abaddon and a whole army fighting alongside us.” she chimed in hoping to quash her riders worries.
