Character's name: Richard Wyvern heart
Character's age: 27
Character's attitude: Richard like his young brother is stubborn when he makes up his mind on a matter. But unlike his brother, Richard is not as arrogant. Like the knights of the old world he is a righteous man. He is quick to raise his shield in the defense of the weak and just as quick to raise his sword to strike down those Richard deems as evil. Richard is not without mercy though and deems it a stain to his honor to strike down a opponent who has yielded. Even if that enemy will return later on.
Service is its own reward for Richard. He seeks not fame or fortune. He does not indulge in the pleasures of the drink or of the flesh. Because of his righteous monk like personality he can come off as a bit of a bore or stick in the mud. But that is not entirely true. Richard loves history and stories of heroic deeds. When facing darkness you need not face it alone. Sir Richard Wyvern heart is a man that will stand by your side for he demonstrates the unseen strength that is the human spirit.
Character's Race: Human
Character's appearance: Richard is average in height for a human. His body is not soft though and should you ever catch a glimpse of him you will find a body chiseled and scarred from the hardships of the road. He is for the most part a clean shaven man. Richards hair is cut short in a military style and brown in color. His eyes are also of the same color but are warm and kind.
Character's allegiance: Neutral
Weapons: Richard uses a steel broadsword and shield. The shield bearing the mysterious mark of a serpent with a dragons head eating its own tail in the shape of a circle. Richards does wear plate and scale armor as the situation demands but he is most commonly seen wearing a steel bucket helm with a single horizontal vision slot. Underneath that helm he wears a chainmail coif for added head protection. Richard wears a grey surcoat with the same snake symbol from the shield on his chest. Beneath the surcoat he wears more chainmail. When standing in the breeze his red cape gives him a dashing appearance.
Other Info: Crag Wyvern Hearts big brother. Unlike his brother he is a normal human and his greatest strength is that of the human spirit.
History: Richard was born into the same family as his little brother Crag. But unlike his brother, Richard did not dream of adventure when he heard the stories of travelers. Richard felt pity for those in the world not blessed with the peace that there village had. Richard dreamed of being a hero and defending people like the knights of the old world. A old world that was slowly coming back with the return of the dragon riders.
The old world came calling one night during a storm when his father granted shelter to a wandering knight that was part of a mysterious order from Alagaesia. Being of 16 years of age at the time and his father struggling to take care of not just him but also his little brother, Richard asked for his fathers blessing to go with the knight as an apprentice. Richard had heard tales of this knights deeds in the land and wanted to do the same thing.
In the end the father relented and Richard left with the knight. Most of what happened after that is left to stories, tales of how he slayed a dragon driven mad by sickness. Others of a lone knight venturing into the swamps to slay witches that snatched village children. Whatever the truth Richard is a full fledged knight in a mysterious order. It is said these knights can trace there origins back to mankind's ancestral homeland and mankind's arrival here. They bend knee to no royalty and avoid politics having supposedly sworn to a life of poverty and selfless service in the defense of the common folk. Whatever the truth of there intentions these mysterious knights were few in number and do help the people so most leave them alone.
Though his order is small in number with a old crumbling military fort to call home. Richard could not be more happy. As was the motto of his order. "Service is its own reward".
Role Play Sample: Richard stood on the ramparts of a old crumbling fort by the sea. Back in the golden age of the riders it must have been a impressive sight. But now, like the knights that called this place home, it was just a shadow of its former glory and not likely to change anytime soon. Still, it was home to Richard and he had lots of fond memories of the place.
"Morning", a gruff voice said and Richard turned and smiled to grasp a knights outstretched hand by the wrist as they grasped his in turn. "Morning brother Solomon, tis a glorious day is it not?" Richard replied. Resting a palm on the pommel of his sword lazily Richard watched as a horse drawn wagon came through the gate into the courtyard. "The food donations have been generous I see. The common folk honor us with such kindness." The other knight turned to look at the back of the cart and nodded. "We should manage through the winter. It would be more easy if we could just buy food for the winter stores instead of living off charity, but such is the life when sworn to poverty."
At that comment Richard could only nod. "It is meant to humble us brother." Before he could say anymore a shadow loomed over them and a dragon landed in the open courtyard and its rider dismounted to walk through into the fort itself. It was a sight growing more common. "I don't know why the riders have such interest in us. We are no threat to them. I dare say that dragon could roast us all with a single pass if it felt so inclined" Richards feelings to the riders had been complicated as of late. His brother in the order was quick to say, "Humble your heart brother. They are our closest friends and lest not forget it was them who gave our order this fort."
Richard went quiet at that. "Truth, but they are pawns of politics now having sworn fealty to the queen. I don't trust them. I think they have forgotten there duty is to the people of the land. Not to bend to the will of monarchs that are quick to turn a blind eye and deaf ear to the common folk when it suits there needs." The other knight crossed his arms to watch the dragon in all its glory. "Perhaps, but that is not for us to decide. There path is just and honorable. As is ours."
With that the other knight turned to Richard. "Go spend time in the room of meditation till night and clear these dark thoughts from your mind. You shame us all with your distrust brother." It was only now Richard felt shame and gave a short bow of his head to the senior knight. He had been taught distrust was a corrupting emotion that caused sickness of not only the mind, but soul. So it was he had to cleanse himself of the sickness in the quiet.
