So, my family's not gonna have a tree this year. For every year, as long as I can remember, we've had this artificial tree that we put up together as a family. It was fun the last few years guessing which branches go where because the paint that told us where to put them had gotten faded and chipped away.
But last year, the stand broke. My brother was sleeping on an air mattress in the living room at the time because we were living in a two-bedroom house at the time. And the mattress was right where the tree fell down.
No, my brother wasn't on the mattress when it fell.
Anyway, me, my brother, and my sister had to spend the next hour or so taping the stand so the tree could last until Christmas. Fortunately, the air mattress didn't pop and none of the ornaments broke. It just freaked our cat out.
So we chunked the tree after Christmas was over last year and we're not buying a new one.
But you know what? I'm okay with that. I really am. Because instead, we can focus on the Nativity scene set up in the living room. Such a simple little display, really. We have baby Jesus, of course, right in the center. Then there's Mary and Joseph, the proud parents, adoring the Child. We have a cow and a donkey, who both look kinda bored with the whole thing. There's a lone shepherd kinda standing off to the side. Then there's the three Wise Men. Lord only knows why they're there. They don't come along until a year or two later.
But something about the Nativity scene display is always touching. Everyone, even the animals, are facing the Baby.
There's a song by my favorite band, Casting Crowns, which is one of my absolute faves. It's called "While You Were Sleeping." They have a traditional version and a Christmas version. Here's the traditional:
If you have any questions about the lyrics, feel free to ask me.
But anyway, it makes me think about the fact that the people in Bethlehem and Jerusalem didn't get that Jesus came to die. We celebrate Christmas, but what we should be celebrating more often is Easter, and Good Friday. That was they day we were set free!!!! They didn't get it.
Sounds kinda like America, doesn't it?
Anyway, that was the beginning of my Christmas thread. Let's get in the mood of the season!!!!
