Character's name: Tristan Sykes
Character's age: 20
Character's attitude: Isolated and a loner, Tristan harbors a survival instinct since he was banished from his home. He is smart, intuitive, creative, quiet, and loyal to his friends. He only wishes to serve his kingdom the best he can and desires peace. He carries around a guilt that haunts him since he was 10 years old, which makes him want to stay away from people because he is afraid that he may cause more harm than good.
Character's Race: Human
Character's appearance: He is 6'0'', medium build, copper toned skin, black hair and greenish blue eyes. He wears a black cloak over his leather sewn jacket and a simple white tunic. He has a shoulder shield on his left shoulder and wears black boots with simple black pants.
Character's allegiance: Ismalia
Weapons: He carries a simple longsword, throwing knives that are placed across his chest, and a bow and arrow. His instincts.
Other Info: He was Tenal Ka's childhood friend, but during one of their play fights, he accidentally cut off her arm. It haunts him to this day.
History: Born in Freia, Tristan was born of noble birth to the third eldest son of Tamar Fam, and thus was Tenal Ka's cousin. They grew up together and Tristan was taught to guard and protect Tenal Ka with his life, as she was expected to become Queen Mother one day. However, one day, as they were playing with swords when Tristan was 10 and Tenal Ka was 7, he misdirected his sword and cut off part of Tenal Ka's arm. Horrified, he hurried to get his father's help. Since his action of maiming Tenal Ka, he was sentenced to death because of the importance of Tenal Ka. However, Tristan's father was able to have the Queen Mother spare his son's life, and instead, Tristan was banished from the capital and scorched off from the family and its history (It is forbidden to acknowledge him as part of the Royal line or as a person).
For ten years, Tristan lived with guilt and regret as he went about the land with a new last name. He survived by his own wits and skills and became a wandering warrior. Now, rumors of the Queen Mother's declining health and the bickering among the female princesses have reached Tristan's ears. Honoring his promise to his father, Tristan vows to protect Tenal Ka and ensure that she is to become Queen Mother, even if she does not know of his assistance.
In the thread, "Remnants", Tristan goes to secretly help Tenal Ka become Queen Mother. He meets Teodora, a rather aggressive Tavern main, who helps him on his quest. He restores his friendship with Tenal Ka and vows to protect her. He gets captured by Pyra and Roth and is tortured in order to gain information against Tenal Ka. He is rescued by Teodora and the Rider Elaine, an ambassador for the Varden. Tristan and Teodora, still consider fugitives, seek refuge with a herbalist couple. There, Tristan, who is overcome with grief of the Queen Mother's death, acts on his emotions and kisses Teodora. Outraged with Tristan, Teodora rougly kicks him out and their relationship is strained as both begin to realize possible feelings toward one another.
Tristan and Teodora attend Tenal Ka's Cornation as Queen Mother and upon being made Queen, Tenal Ka pardons Tristan for maiming her publicly, therefore reinstating him as a Prince of Ismalia.
In between "Remnants" and "To Control a People", Tristan has traveled with Teodora, Tenal Ka, and Elaine to Aeglaesia in hopes to find and recover the lost Emeralds of Ismalia. In "To Control a People," Tristan's feelings for Teodora has grown to love and despite Teodora's refusal, both show considerable amount of jealously when individuals begin to flirt with them.
Tristan aids the Varden in leading a battalion against the Empire during a battle. He also reveals his love again for Teodora, who, flustered and frustated at Tristan, declares her affection for him in a rather rude manner, causing Tristan to think she really doesn't like him when she actually does.
In "Damsels", Tristan is once again captured by Pyra and is tortured to the point of death. Teodora, Elaine, and the magician Daemon come to his aid. Tristan, feeling like he has done nothing right, concedes defeat and allows himself to die. However, Teodora revives him and in the act, shows that she actually loves him. Realizing this, Tristan tries to begin a relationship with her...
In "Goodbye May Seem Forever", Tristan leaves on a mission with Rider Einar to search for information about the Emeralds and to find allies to the Varden cause. He leaves a note for Teodora before he leaves, telling her where he is going. Upon telling Tenal Ka his mission, Teodora storms in, displaying her anger for him leaving a note to say goodbye. He apologizes and leaves, much to both their dismay.
In "Joyous Returns," Tristan and Einar return, revealing that they have a recruited a spy within the Galbatorix's Rider Ranks. It is revealed that the Ancient Sidhion and Locien are going to attack the Varden to claim the Emeralds. Tristan is unsure of the informant's loyality, but helps prepare for war nonetheless. His love for Teodora is very evident.
In "Gold Mine", Tristan finds a gold dragon egg that hatches for him. Excited, Tristan discovers that he is now a dragon Rider.
In "Dragon's Roar and Soldier's Cry", Tristan is mortally wounded, again, when Romulus (under the possession of the Ancient Sidhion) attacks him. He is saved by Seth, Lucia, and Meera, and voices his love for Teodora right before he passes out. Happily, though, he hears Teodora return his love.
Weeks after the events of "Dragon's Roar and Soldier's Cry," in "Have A Little Faith in Me", Tristan confides in his cousin, Tenal Ka, that he plans to propose to Teodora.
Dragon Name: Trinity
Gender: Female
Color: Gold
Personality: Playful, but protective to those close to her, Trinity harbors a wisdom and maturity that is sometimes lacking in her rider. She desires only the happiness and safety for Tristan and his closest loved ones. She has a particular bond with Teodora, as she agrees with the idea that without females, males would be completely helpless. Oddly enough, she sometimes values Teodora's opinions over Tristan, leaving the latter sometimes confused on who's dragon bond Trinity is. She named herself Trinity in the concept that Tristan is complete with three individuals: Himself, Trinity, and Teodora.
Role Play Sample: Tristan's cloak covered his head as he sat in the corner of the tavern in Kal'stein. He had heard rumors of another country and that Tenal Ka had traveled there. He wondered why she had traveled there and if she could ever forgive him for maiming her. He twirled his cup silently as he overheard conversations about the growing turmoil in the Royal house, and decided that the fumes of alcohol and urine was enough for him. Getting up, he paid for his drink and went outside for fresh air.
Wandering away from Kal'stein, Tristan knew the petty fights within his old family were only going to get worse as they sought for power. Where are you, Tenal Ka? He wondered to himself. Will you be able to calm the storm? or will you be lost in the maelstrom? He asked himself as he hiked up his cloak as the icy sea breeze struck him. He wondered how his cousin had grown and if she was prepared to take the role of Mother Queen.
It is your duty to protect her, Tristan. She is destined to become Queen Mother. You must promise me. No matter what, you must protect her. His father's voice echoed within his thoughts as he picked up dust while traveling towards the closest town near Freia. "I promise, father..." He mumbled as he planned to sneak into Freia to watch and protect Tenal Ka in the shadows.
