Okay, I was never really satisfied with the way Karn turned out. He seemed too much like a wimp. So he's just going to vanish from existance and no one's ever gonna know what happened to him. I have a better idea for an Empire Rider.

Character's name: Slaton
Character's age: 227
Character's attitude: Slaton is a sold-out Imperial. He's been a member of the Black Hand ever since Galbatorix formed it. He is loyal to Galbatorix to the core and nothing will ever change that. Whatever Galbatorix orders him to do, he will. Unless Sin tells him not to...He is terrified of his dragon.
Character's Race: elf
Character's appearance:
Character's allegiance: Sin first, Empire second
Weapons:
This is a unique Rider's sword that was made for the Rider of the only dragon that looked similar to Sin. The blade is silver, the sheath is black, and the handle is black and gold. Instead of a jewel in the pommel, there is a yellow sappire imbedded in the hilt of the sword.
Since receiving the sword, Slaton has altered it slightly. Instead of the original glyph that was on the blade and sheath that marked its owner, Slaton has changed it. The sword doesn't have a name, but rather a saying inscribed in the Liduen Kvaedhi: "If this be Sin, let Sin be served."
History: Slaton was born and raised in Illiera, before it became Uru'baen. His mother had preferred the city to the forest because her mate was a Rider who required to live there. His life proceeded naturally with elvish education. His father was disappointed with a dragon never hatched for him.
He grew distant from his parents as he grew older. He would ride out alone from the city and spend days to himself. He didn't hate his father or mother, but neither did he love them. He always wanted to be a Rider like his father, and blamed him for not taking him often enough to Vroengard to see if an egg would hatch for him.
During Galbatorix's uprising and at the beginning of the Fall, Slaton's father was among the first killed by the Forsworn. His mother escaped to Du Weldenvarden and he never heard from her again. He didn't realize that this was because she died soon after she arrived.
He met with Galbatorix and pledged his loyalty to him. He has always followed Galbatorix's every command, no matter how gruesome.
When the eggs were first presented to Galbatorix, Slaton was among the first to approach them. One egg--a black so deep one's eyes just seemed to slide off it--hatched for him. He was bonded to the dragon, but for a long time could not think up a name for him. It wasn't until he first observed how the hatchling hunted that the name Sin came to mind.
There was no doubt in Slaton's mind that Sin was something wrong...something pure evil. Although he was not the most moral of elves, everything about his dragon repulsed him. However, the more time they remained bonded, the more Slaton adjusted. He slowly got used to Sin's dark nature and over time even began to become more like him. Sin slowly began to kill any conscience he had. Slaton was terrified by this and fought against it as hard as he could. During the final battle between the Varden and the Empire, Sin began wantonly killing everyone he came across: Varden soldiers, Empire soldiers, civilians, even children. Slaton found himself caught between Sin's burning, overpowering desire to kill and the small part of his conscience that remained alive. In a supreme effort in a war within his mind, he slew his own dragon to stop his madness.
The years afterward, Slaton was lost. He'd been bound so close to Sin that to lose him was to lose a part of his soul. While he was free from the oppressing, evil nature, his own spirit died that day. Ever since, he has been aimless; however, people have heard how he slew the most evil of dragons. Few realize he was Sin's Rider, and with the rising war with Katriana, both sides see the advantage of having such a courageous dragon slayer on their side.
Role Play Sample:
Slaton sat on Sin's back as the shimmering black dragon landed. The instant they were on the ground, he lept off and lost everything he had eaten that day. Sin's gold eyes stared at him with contempt.
You ought to be used to it by now, he said, curling his tail around himself. We have been bonded for two years and I have never changed by ways. Slaton just shook his head.
"I'll never get used to the carnage you create," he said, "And those people were innocent this time! They did nothing to you!"
All creatures are guilty of something or another, Sin said mildly, Otherwise, they would never fall for my trap. I only reveal to them what they should already know before I eat them. He licked a bloody silver claw clean, then glanced back at the pale elf.
Are you finished yet? We need to tell the king that we have completed our assignment. Slaton wiped his mouth and stood slowly.
"All right, we can go now," he said, getting back in the saddle.
Dragon info:
Name: Sin
Age: 2 1/2
Appearance: Sin is a black so completely he is virtually invisible at night. Even in the daytime he is rather hard to focus on. His claws and spikes are bright silver in color, and his eyes are golden.
Personality: Sin is a vicious predator on any creature. He can terrify anyone and anything, yet he is never satisfied with just fear. His hunting techniques involve touching his prey's darker self, stirring up fears and desires and sufferings that are usually buried deep down. The prey tends to notice it at first and tries desparately to cover it up and ignore it. If they give Sin long enough, they will eventually get used to him and completely deny he is bothering them at all. They are completely oblivious to the fact that he is about to devour them until they are almost in his jaws. By then, it is too late.
Sin is hate incarnate. He hates all things living and fears nothing. Only Slaton's nature holds him back from trying to destroy the entire world. The only creature he loves is Slaton, and sometimes he even hates him, too. But loving or hating, Sin knows he can't live without Slaton, so he tolerates him whenever he is being a nuisance, and protects him whenever he can.
